In case you're not familiar with Quilts of Valor, here's a quote from their website:
A Quilt of Valor® (QOV) is a quality, handmade quilt that is machine or hand quilted. It is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war.

I'll give you a sneak peek - over 350,000 quilts have been awarded to Veterans!
In honor of the 4th of July, this week’s project is a stunning Quilt of Valor (intended for a very special wounded veteran)
Topics will include:
- using BLACK batting
- loading the quilt sideways, and WHY
- stitching freehand around the eagle and other features
- various borders
- some ruler work
- and likely some unknowns; we'll see what arises as we go!
As always, the entire episode is streamed in real time - no edits - and you are welcome to ask questions and I'll answer them while I work.

I love watching your Live and Unscripted episodes. This one is great showing all the different stitch patterns and how you quilted the borders. I like how you explain your thought process for why you do what you do. I am working on the paisley pattern on a pixie sticks quilt for a grandson, inspired by you. Sure is a learning curve on how to keep the pattern size consistent. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.

Thank you so much for sharing your skill and time with us. I many times have multi border/panel quilts. I plan parts of it and free wheel other parts. I love your thought process.

Maybe before taking the quilt off and turning it, run a straight line of basting through the bottom extra so you have a guide for your snappers.

Except the side becomes the bottom😁

I would also clip and tear off the excess on the side instead of using scissors.

Why are you basting and stitch in the ditch (on the sides) from the top to bottom all the way down. You’ve always said go from bottom to top.

Perhaps you’ve heard another quilter say that? I typically baste 3 sides in order - up the left, across the top, and down the right. And I stitch in the ditch in whatever direction is convenient.
