MSQC's Jenny Doan, invites us into her camper for a little quilting fun. Even on a weekend camping trip, the sewing machine, scissors and quilting blocks are on board. We had such a fabulous weekend of lawn chair visits and campfire cooking, but before the day warmed up enough to be outside, Jenny was in binding a quilt. If you're a quilter, you probably already know about Jenny and the MSQC KZfaq channel. If not, click on the link below to visit and enjoy all the fabulous and educational quilting tutorials. If you haven't already, please consider subscribing to our channel. It really will help us and get KZfaq to recommend this to many more people. Thanks!

My grandmother took her treadle sewing machine with her while camping. Grandpa would fish and she would sew quilt tops while in the shade under a tree. I am actually hand quilting one of the quilt tops she put together. She used fabric from grandpa’s shirts to have enough scrap fabric to make a quilt. They both passed on years ago so I’ve had wonderful memories come while quilting on her quilt. Thanks for posting this. The timing is fun.

Always nice to see other quilters sewing setups in their campers. My RV can sleep two people. But when I bring my sewing machine along I'm the only one! Sorry, no room for you this trip! Beautiful quilt on the bed.

This was so cute of Jenny and she is very humble. She is just a tad bit more than just a quilter. She runs an entire industry that virtually saved the little town of Hamilton MO. She must own about 20 separate quilt shops in the town and has quite the following on youtube. Thank you for showcasing her in another element of her life.

I've been living in my RV for 3.5 years since I lost my home in 2017 northern California fires and there hasn't been a day I haven't quilted something. I've been thinking of making videos, soon..... I made 6 quilt tops in the last two months in my RV, and I'll admit its cramped, but I make do. Today I had my jackknife couch removed and now I have so much room! I've got two sewing machines set up, a Juki tl18qvp and a Singer workhorse, a cutting table, a small countertop ironing board, and I pin my quilts on the edge of the slide out to see my work. So far it's working out just fine. Now, if I would just stop buying fabric....no more room for 1 more inch of fabric!

I'm glad Jenny shows quilting on the go. I drive cross country each year.. and always stop in Hamilton. I have a Janome craft machine, little iron, combo cutting and ironing mat,a 4x14 and. 2.5" ruler and clearly perfect rulers in a small bag and sew each night in my hotel to relax. My dad always had fishing rods behind the seat. I always have my quilting bag.

Well what a surprise to find the common denominator (Jenny Doan) of my two favourite things to do, number one sewing/quilting which I have been doing for the past 50 years and number two camping, I started camping with my parents when I was really young and introduced my husband to it and now that we are retired, I get to do both at my leisure. Thank you Jenny for all the time you have put into helping others on your KZfaq site.

My daughter and I plus 2 dogs and a 16 year old boy, camp from mid May to mid Oct at a little lake in Northern Mi. I have a 23 ft.trailer so it is roomy. I set up outside on the picnic table, under a canopy, so I can watch the lake. Extension cords are my friend. I don’t quilt but make garments. I take my Brother sewing machine and this year I will add my serger. I use a light weight folding table for cutting. It is easier than leaning over benches. I could potentially set up inside but I really love being outside unless it is raining. If it is too cold and windy I sit by the fire and read. I love camping.

I do all kinds of sewing including quilts in our travel trailer. I watch Jenny and have ordered fabric from her when cotton fabric was hard find. I spent awhile making facemask for family, friends, and people who needed facemask. I also make jewelry in our rig. Thank you for sharing how there are a lot of fulltime traveling quilters. I love her vintage machine. I travel with a full size sewing machine.

I love the featherweight for camping if you're going to have a plug in~ but if you're going to boondock (which we often do with our vintage 1967 lo-liner) a hand crank sewing machine will still get the job done 😊😊 Plus, it's tons of fun to sit out at the camp table and stitch away with nature all around!

So cool ! I have watched Jenny for years and bought my latest quilting machine from her company! I also have been camping since I was a child with my parents and always took some sort of needlework with me on trips, even as a teen! A number of years ago, I joined the RV Quilters group online and had a set up, in my RV very similar to Jenny’s, including a vintage centennial model featherweight sewing machine! I am 67 and life changes cause me to no longer camp, but so many good memories! And I continue to quilt and watch Jenny every week!

Somehow she's like the sister I never had, coaching me along, encouraging and teaching. I won't say older sister, more like younger and smarter. What does "rockhound" mean? Happy to hear you're a quilter Bill. We need more men quilters. I worked for CPA firm in 70s in Houston TX. One CPA (Male in 40s) crocheted his wife the most beautiful sweaters. I envied her so much, cuz I love sweaters & wear w/silk scarves. Men can be better quilters than their wives...eek! (But true) There's a man in Ashville NC who makes beautiful 3D quilts. One day he just decided to give it a try, now he's full of 3D ideas (cubes, mazes, etc). Maybe y'all meet up at the Ashville Quilt Show, where I met them. I'm not in NC now though. I wish y'all safe travels & hope you continue to have fun quilting! Blessings to you & your wife, Lana :)

@@lbluebird342 she like to hunt for agates on the shore. We actually named our camper "Vid Straden" in swedish, by the shore. I took up quilting to help with cognitive issues after brain cancer. I am not able to keep up with her as she hunts out rocks so I stay with our dog at the campsite.

When we fulltimed about 15 years ago I had a newer Singer to quilt with. Then we bought a sticks and bricks, and now we're getting ready to do short trips in a Cargo Trailer Conversion and boondock, so I'll be taking along my Singer handcrank to sew and quilt with. The best thing about Jenny's Featherweight is that it does a *true* straight stitch -- very important to a quilter! Great video!
