Your attention to detail is fantastic I brought my Qzone in December and boy I wish I could have watched your video then. You have helped me so much how to roll up and move the quilt. Thank you so much. I have mention that I ended up buying a Qnquie as I found it so hard to keep moving my quilt but I do have chronic back problems and I would like to just let people with back problems to bear in mind when you by a Qzone. I love my frame it is brilliant. Really like to see how you manage a large and smaller quilt. Thank you so much.

I love my Grace Qzone Hoop Frame. I have a Janome 1600 P QC machine on the frame and I think what I enjoy the most about quilting on the frame (besides moving the machine over the quilt instead of the quilt under the machine is being able to stand up and quilt. Also, to keep my stitching depth at a maximum, when I get about 1/2 way on the length of the quilt, I flip the whole quilt so that as I get to the end, I am back to only my leader cloth (or the extra batting and backing I have left on the ends) cutting into the depth of my rows.

That's wonderful Karen! Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm looking forward to trying a quilt from the center out too. I think it's a good way to quilt something with less bulk in the arm of the machine.

I have the same machine. Are you using the speed controller with it? I have been using a stitich regulator with it and finally took it off the frame because the regulator was not regulating the stitches. Someone mentioned getting the speed controller. Also have had alot of problems with extra ling stitches when going backwards and to the right etc. when using the machine on the frame with the regulator......

This looks like a very cool product, Leah, and your videos are giving us a wonderful overview of how it can be used successfully. It looks like the designers goofed a bit on the position of the stitch speed dial... it would have been better placed at the back where the black cord comes out. I am planning to get a Brother PQ1500SL machine which has a larger throat space than your Juki used in this video, so it looks like I'd have more space in which to quilt, and wouldn't have to roll and reposition the quilt as often (which is good!). I look forward to more videos where you tackle a larger quilt, and perhaps begin in the middle working out to one end, and then flipping the entire quilt around to again begin near the middle working to the other end. Thanks for all your videos! ~Diana from Toronto (p.s. No worries, I don't expect you'd be shipping to Canada. I would buy the Qzone frame from you and ship it to a friend in the U.S., picking it up myself when I visit them on a future road trip!)
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 5 жыл бұрын
Honestly the dial is kinda nice where it is so I can nudge at it here and there when I want to speed up. I just have to remember not to hit it accidently like I did in this video. Yes that brother machine has about 1 inch more space than I have so it may feel more comfortable, but it will still be a lot of rolling and re-positioning. I'm actually not allowed to sell to Canada because you have awesome dealers in that country already! I hope you'll check them out and see what they have to offer too.

My birthday-q-zone frame that I ordered from you should arrive on Monday and I could not be more excited!!! I have been eagerly checking to see if you have more videos on it, so thanks!! I'd love to see you do a design that has to definitely take the frame's structure into account. For example, if I had that adorable panel, I would be tempted to outline and echo the stars and then do a fun design in the stripes. How would you manage that with this frame (or any other long-arm, for that manner?).

@LeahDay
@LeahDay 5 жыл бұрын
Very good question Drulinda! That's basically a different type of quilting called custom quilting (what I demoed here was All Over Quilting). It takes a bit more time to plan and is more time consuming, so I'll probably demo that way on smaller blocks. I'm off to dig through my scrap bin to see if I have something that will work!

Thank you so much for putting this video on!! I have a similar setup. There aren’t very many videos posted with the information you’ve provided. I had an educator state that she starts in the middle of her quilt do one side then flip it around and finish the other to help with the bulk under the machine. What are your thoughts about that method?
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 5 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried it yet, but I like the sound of it! I'm going to do a quilt with a side to side shift and I'm going to quilt it the "right" way according to the instructions, then I'll try quilting from the middle. I love working on this frame for exactly this reason - this feels like I'm covering new ground that a lot of people needed help understanding!

Thank you for these tutorials! With very little space to quilt, how would you do different patterns like feathers? Also, would the frame work with say a double or queen size quilt? Thank you...Maureen
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 5 жыл бұрын
Great question! If you wanted to quilt feathers or something that would be cut off, the key is to mark it so you can easily pick up and continue the design into the next section seamlessly. Yes, you can quilt any size of quilt on this frame because it's designed to advance side to side and forward. I'm still testing the best ways to make this work, but you can find a tutorial on shifting side to side here: freemotionproject.com/2019/05/shifting-a-quilt-side-to-side-on-the-q-zone-hoop-frame.html

Thank you my quilting friend for sharing with us. I plan to binge watch all of your quilting videos,. I love your videos and the fact that you do not forget to mention all the little tid bits that we find when we actually start using the Q-zone frame. The video you posted about a year ago when you first signed a contract with Grace Company is what sold me on the Grace Q zone frame and Grace company. I have been wanting a quilting machine for a very long time. I have a Baby Lock Destiny embroidery machine with an 11 inch throat plate. This is a very heavy machine. Will this frame work with our heavy machines? I spoke with Grace Company and mentioned your video, they suggested I buy the frame through you. I forgot to ask this question, unfortunately. My plan is to buy the frame use it with my Baby Lock Destiny then save for the Grace Qnique Q15R. Thank you again.

Hi Cheryl - I'm sorry I missed your comment until today. Yes, this will work great with your Babylock Destiny. I've had a Qnique 15R / 14+ on this frame and it worked just fine, so a heavy machine won't be a problem. Yes, I think this plan is a good idea - use what you have now and save for a bigger machine down the road.

I do have a question. I have a Babylock Jazz that I am going to use with this frame. Do you know if the speed controllers can be used on a variety of machines or are they machine specific?
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how the foot pedal plugs into the machine. Different manufacturers have different ports / plugs which means some will only work for that particular brand or that particular machine. I know the speed controller I'm using now wouldn't work for my Bernina or Eversewn machines.

@LeahDay

Other than upgrading to a 15R, no, this is a limitation that doesn't have a solution. I would advise selling your 16 locally or on Ebay so your longarm and frame are the same brand for maximum compatibility.

I have watched many videos on this frame and I have gotten excited about it. I can’t get one at this point in time however. I did want to let you know I took my Pfaff Powerquilter 16 to my dealer (she has a Q-Zone set up) and she let me put my machine on the frame. I was so excited that it fits beautifully! There is a problem putting on the sure stitch because my machine has a 9 pin connection for the foot pedal. Would you have any idea where I could get an adapter to go from a male DB9 pin to a female barrel pin that the sure stitch plugs into. I could use the foot pedal and sit down also. Trying to get my wandering ducks in a row. Thanks for any advise. I love all your videos. Michell
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 5 жыл бұрын
You'll need to contact Grace Company about your Sure Stitch Michell. There may be a way to swap it out or an adapter, but I honestly don't know. From what I understood, I thought a foot pedal was the only option, but I could be wrong. There's a lot here with cross compatibility that is new territory! I was told the 16 inch longarms couldn't fit so you've just taught me something!

My machine doesn’t go down to zero on stitch length. It only goes as low as .2 would you recommend then to drop the feed dogs? Also, would this table be able to quilt bigger quilts and also more intricate designs?
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 4 жыл бұрын
The lowest setting is just fine. You can leave your feed dogs up and they will move a bit, but not enough to cause problems. I honestly sometimes forget to adjust my stitch length down and I can still move the machine just fine. Yes the Q-zone frame can quilt bigger quilts and more intricate designs. If you use your home machine, you're of course limited by the size of the harp space, but if you marked motifs on your quilt, you can stitch around them in sections, advancing the quilt through the frame as needed to complete the design. I have another video on advancing side to side here: freemotionproject.com/2019/05/shifting-a-quilt-side-to-side-on-the-q-zone-hoop-frame.html

HI Leah. I battle to thread my machine while it is on the frame. Should I take the machine off everytime. Which foot should I use? Should I use the walking foot?
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 7 ай бұрын
That is a struggle with smaller home machines. I would try lifting the quilt off and bringing the machine as close as you can, then locking the channel locks before changing the bobbin. As for a foot - you need to use your darning foot or ruler foot. Frame quilting is free motion quilting or ruler quilting.

@LeahDay

It really depends on what you're wanting to do, what kind of quilts you're wanting to quilt, and the home machine you have right now. If your home machine is relatively small, the Hoop Frame or Hoop Frame Pro will not be very helpful. Having the frame and only 2-3 inches of quilting space will be more frustrating. You won't need and cannot use the stitch regulator without a frame. That device attaches to the frame and carriage to record your machine's movement. Also if your machine isn't compatible with the stitch regulator, it will not work. So I'd advise slowing down and evaluating what machine you have, will it work with the hoop frame or Hoop Frame Pro and will it solve your problems? If your machine is on the smaller side, I would recommend saving and getting a longarm (Qnique 15R or Qnique 19) with your frame.

You can find a detailed list of everything included with the Hoop Frame here - leahday.com/products/grace-q-zone-hoop-frame The hoop frame comes with the white clamps, black bungee cords, and the top plate carriage for your machine which includes the front and back handlebars.
