The new Dig-Octa system is built around versatility and flexibility and one of the reasons is that you can stack powerboards and brainboards or even both together to create the exact setup that's needed for your setup! So let's sit down together and show you how to do that.

Purchased the Dig-Quad and it is of high quality. For a DIY tinkerer like me these boards are worth every $$$ penny because they come ready to use right out of the box

I am slowly adding the "QuinLED" Technology to my Display as well. I started out with soldering for hours preppingESP-32 boards for a props to now using OCTA's and Quads... I like you started out with an Uno and didn't even power it up till I had 2 HiLetGo boards give up right before Halloween show. Thankfully the Uno can run 2 channels so the night was saved. After that I bought the OCTA and the 7-HC Powerboard and made an UNBOXING video about them, I was so Excited. I am going to use the OCTA to run my BALL DROP show on New Years. Lots to do.....

Very cool stuff. I am not sure I understand it well enough to give it a try, but I appreciate you making it accessible and providing the video content to help educate..

Just nipped in to say Merry Christmas! Have a great break. Just ordered my first quad. Can’t wait to play as a noob to all this but had arduino/wemos etc a couple of years.

Great stuff Quindor thank you. You are a great asset to the diy led community with the development of an affordable home option for us that like to tinker. Since my wife took a year off from work my mega tree got put on hold but will definitely be purchasing one of these to run that. Recently upgraded all my standard ESP 32 controllers to Dig Unos to run the lights on the eaves of the house and they are great for that. Also bought a few extra controllers because I never know when her or I are going to come up with a new idea to put up in the yard each year.

Thanks for creating this. already have the quad. could you have a switch for ethernet and use a 7power board with two brain boards and a quad with three ethernet cords in one configuration. or would I have to separate the quad from the Octa? I hope you can visualize what I am asking. Thanks again Quindor.

I run a switch on mine. Its just plug and play, meaning get a switch. plug the switch into your internet via RJ-45 (Regular cat 5 or 6) and then either make or buy small cables to your Dig Octa and the quad you have. I have an uno and Quad running on my ethernet and the Octa running Wi-Fi ONLY because I haven't made the time to make the Cat 6 cable. Once I do though the router will automatically assign the new Dig an IP address and then I just add the IP address in WLED and XLIGHTS. i have made some videos on this as well

So, I'm powering (5) 5v 5m 60/m segments with a 60 or 70 amp power supply. I've ordered the 7HC and the brainboard. What I'm not finding is a video for is the actual wiring scenario for running multiple strands of lights through both units.. so, if the powerboard powers the brainboard, does that mean that i need to only send my 60-70 amps to the powerboard, which then gives the 60-70 amps to the brainboard? Or do i need to run individual wires from the powerboard outputs to the brainboard inputs for them to be protected by fuses?
@IntermitTech
@IntermitTech 7 ай бұрын
Let's see. For wiring I'd advise giving this a watch, it should explain what to do there: quinled.info/the-ultimate-led-strip-power-injection-guide/ Regarding powering the brainboard with a powerboard stack that's all done automatically using the posts and fully protected on both sides even! So no need to run extra wires between them, just the posts is enough.

Dou you think I still need a data buster, using the new system Dig Octa?

From the board to the LEDs, no it should do well with 2-wire or 3-wire setups alike. But for bridging gaps en maybe power injecting yes

When you stack brain boards does that mean you're running multiple instances of WLED? Or is everything controlled with the same WLED controls/presets/etc?
@IntermitTech
@IntermitTech Жыл бұрын
You will be running multiple instances of WLED. If you are using WLED local effects you would need to sync them or if you are using something externally (xLights or FPP for instance) you basically treat them as two nodes and effects and such can run smoothly distributed over both.

TO a Dig-Octa no, to a Dig-Uno or Dig-Quad yes. The dig2go has it integrated!

What if I need more than 10amps per segment? Planning to run several segments that goes over 10-15amps. Unsure what will be at risk of melting, since this is a permanent fixture.

What type of LEDs are we talking about because generally this would basically just not happen because of how current LED strips are constructed. I've only ever seen 5v sk6812 RGBW with 144LEDs/m draw more then my 4Amp edge and 8Amp middle rule. Still, for the Dig-Octa it's supported to use the "double up" feature on the Power-7 versions so you can use up to 8AWG or so cable using fork terminals that use 2 outputs and thus can handle max 20Amps for a single cable.

@@IntermitTech , nice! I ordered a 96 per meter sk6812 5v led strip, and am planning to have several 3-4m strips, in order to keep it under 15amps I think I will need mid injections. I tried driving a 5m strip on one end and it runs pretty hot. Will definitely try the Octas, the terminals are a great improvememt for the thick cables tyat I'm going to use :)

How about Wifi/ETH connection? Does every brainboard consume a ethernet port or is this stacked or daisy-chained as well? How about POE in V2.0?
@IntermitTech
@IntermitTech Жыл бұрын
Each brainboard does indeed need it's own Ethernet connection so if you are building multiple in a stack/box you'll need a little cheap switch. POE on the boards would increase the cost of each board significantly while not everyone will use it. So using external POE extractors is a much better way to do it in my opinion, 5$ and you can have 48v in with 5v or 12v out to the USB-C of 2p in of the brainboard, done!

Canispater Christmas aka Jeff did a KZfaq video where he made a "snake" I think he called it where he combined power cables with a ethernet cable. Hope that helps.

Can't you design a quinled micro? Only for 5v led strips? Im using an quinled dig uno with Ethernet (which is ABE) but it's an overkill and far too big for sk6812/ws2812 etc... On those 5v strips we don't need any protection or voltage regulators and levelshifters exists in tiny smd chips.... The only thing that would be nice is an Ethernet plug... The tripple stacked behemoth of quinled abe is simply too big sry... I mean for me that's actually the only thing that throws me away from using that🙈 Additionally, i wanted to make a case for the abe... But you have nowhere any step files available... That's horrible 🤦 Cheers ✌️
