A little while back we took a look at 5v COB Addressable LED strip and before that even we looked at a 24v COB Addressable strip I called "Addressable Neon". Let's take a look at a few more and see how they compare including an RGBW variant, does this actually produce good quality white light and are they all compatible with WLED? Let's find out!

I just installed Pautix 24v IP65 RGB IC addressable. They are 10cm per meter vs 5, but about half the price. They are bright and in my application do not require power injection which is so awesome. I am adjusting from the ws2015 5050 strips, but the neon effect and rick solid nature of these strips is outstanding. Eliminating the extra power injection wires from my aluminum channels makes it so clean and easy.

I recently saw those also but didn't get them because they also had the 10cm zones and very clearly mention they are still only for indoor use so not really waterproof so it's a bit confusing what it would add vs the normal indoor version.
@troykirchenbauer
@troykirchenbauer 6 ай бұрын
@@IntermitTech excellent point. They do say waterproof and indoor. My experience so far has been that IP65 does just fine in the aluminum channels on the roofline of my house in terms of weatherproofing. Also the silicone sleeves, both the diffused and clear varieties, are more trouble than they are worth in my view. Either way, thanks for all you do to educate and advance this hobby. I run everything on your controllers and send everyone who asks to your website and videos.

Interesting, I just bought some 12V WS2814 based strip because I wanted decent power, good white, at most one injection point for 5m, and had to be either 10mm or 12mm wide (I have 10mm V channels, 12mm can be made to work but wider would lose too much contact with the channel). The spec on the ws2814a says cri of 90+, would be interesting to see 3rd party measurement.

Hello can you tell me what you think about RGB CCT and its purpose. I can't find a specific video about this type of stripping. It seems that they are the best thing that is a mix between white and warm light with RGB only that they cannot be controlled individually. I want to buy 50 m to light my house with and they even have 95 + cri.

How do you handle diffusing for the RGB strip, do you simply place it in a clear channel? You mention it is well diffused on its own, but there are still some PCB parts that are not very pretty to be directly visible :) I am kinda looking at a DYI Nanoleaf project and all tutorials use pretty aggressive diffusers, but then again all of them also use the regular discrete diode LED strips.
@IntermitTech
@IntermitTech 6 ай бұрын
Yeah for the LEDs themselves you really don't much extra diffusion on the RGB version if the strip is going to be directly visible maybe a little bit to obfuscate it a bit could be nice. In regards to a nanoleaf clone you'd want something that diffuses a bit but mostly acts like a light guide and spreader so that the whole "leaf" lights up evenly so those are 2 different things I think. Still, I think the 24v RGB COB could work very nice for that since at least you don't have to worry about seeing individual diodes!

Hello! Thaks for the video! The link on AliExpress for the 24v Addressable COB RGBW strip says that it does not support ESP32 (" This light strip is not compatible with WLED/ESP32 controllers, please buy another controller from our store!"). What controller should we use (for those who are outside USA?) Need around 20m of the strip.

how wide are these new COB strips? I was looking at the non-white RGB COBs you mention in this video but the 12mm width makes it difficult to match an aluminum channel. Seems like all V-shaped ones are 10mm

Yeah, I generally just get 12mm profiles because some of the newer strips are indeed 12mm only. I believe the RGBW one in the video is actually back to 10mm since it's a bit less powerful.

@@IntermitTech I just got a bookcase setup with this. It was driving me crazy to get the config correct. Google did not show many good configs to try. I managed to get SK6812 RGBW chosen as the strip type. I got the color settings which seemed to be close enough, but the green was rather too white, and the red was pretty weak. While doing a final search I came across this tip. I have to say it is rather hidden because I am not using dig2analog at all, directly powering from DigUno. Trying the settings though is perfect and everything is good now. Maybe you could find a way to make this setting more discoverable for folks powering them from DigUnos or DigQuads.

Do you recommend using FCOB SPI RGBW IC LED 24 as kitchen under cabinet light. I really like the mix between the RGB and White, I want to use the white as a main light, but I'm concerned for the quality of the light...
@IntermitTech
@IntermitTech 5 ай бұрын
Regarding the RGBW strip and white light it's the best out there right now and it's a decent CRI90 as I show in the video. It's certainly not the best white light you can get LED strip wise (as I explain the video) but if you want it combined with addressable and RGB it is and for normal main lighting it'll be fine. I also think for kitchen under cabinet it's fine too, I wouldn't use it as main lighting for cooking or something like that though. You want CRI95 for that.

The CCT COB strips are currently the best white strips out there, especially in regard to CRI. The WWA I have tested in the past still didn't do too great, in CRI but certainly also in brightness. Video I'm not 100% sure yet when it's coming.

You said these aren’t as bright as the non waterproof version…are they still brighter than the older 2811/2812 60leds/meter strips? How durable does the casing feel? Do you have any good solid ways of attaching wires to them? I use led strips on atv’s and side by sides that constantly get submerged in mud
@IntermitTech
@IntermitTech 6 ай бұрын
If say they are pretty sturdy since they are basically fully enclosed in silicone. Brightness is still pretty fair, I'd say at least on par. Wires I haven't looked into too much but if you need to open it up that would be a bother for sure so I'd recommend getting the length you really need.

Have you heard of 12V adressable LED stings? They claim to use ws2811 chips but the 'blobs' that contain the LEDs are too small for that, they look like they contain only a 5050 package but claimed power consumption is lower than ws2815 chips would have. I wrote a much longer comment with some example links but that got deleted without any notificaton. If they actually are 12V single LED adressable that would be awesome for longer runs. Any thoughts?
@IntermitTech
@IntermitTech 5 ай бұрын
I know there is one new kind of variant out there by not sure what they are using inside. Maybe a combination of COB LEDs and resistors to accept 12v natively, it is possible in that sense. But it's likely a clone chip, not real ws2811. Can work fine though, but haven't seen it myself. Links best through Discord!
