Rear view cameras on Ford Explorers often fail because water and mud get inside the housing. Luckily it is easy to replace it and replacement camera is not too expensive. If you decide for the OEM version it will be much more expensive than aftermarket camera.
To start remove four 10mm screws under the Explorer trim on the tailgate. Then remove two 11mm screws on the side of the tailgate. Pop out the trim piece. It will be held by four plastic pins. Once that is done you will have the access to the camera. Now remove torx T20 screw holding the camera holder. Remove the holder and pull out the camera. Disconnect the camera connector. Before installing new camera make sure you clean the area from mud and debris using electrical contact cleaner.
