Peace brother - the incentive for the narrators to attempt to shorten isnads in their transmissions was three-fold. Firstly, among Sunnis righteousness was tied to the degrees of separation from the transmitter to the prophet so a shorter isnad would relate to a higher level of righteousness of the individual. Secondly, a shorter isnad was more likely to get disseminated and preserved by compilers and thus preserving their name and associated tradition rather than another narrators transmission. Thirdly, if you have a viewpoint that you want to convince opposing parties of by means of a Hadith if your isnad is shorter it would generally considered more trustworthy than a longer isnad. These were some primary motives for narrators to grant themselves liberties in reducing their isnads when transmitting Hadith.
