WHAT A FUN CLAY ADVENTURE!!! Happy 65th Anniversary Quyle Kilns! (Forgive the couple moments of"jiggly camera" ...didn't realize it was glitchy until I started editing) If you've ever heard of the clays "Sandstone Buff", "Silverstone", "Red Stone" or "Sierra Gold" ... these are Quyle Kilns signature clay bodies! I had the opportunity to spend some time with owner Pamela Quyle as she showed me around her production facility where they make their "Filter Pressed" clay bodies.
(I sure wish I had visited during the week so I could see it all the works in action!!!)
She also shared her simple (and inexpensive) engobe tips that I also included in this video! www.quylekiln.com
On this same property is also the beautiful Brice Station Vineyard and Tasting Room owned by her sister (quick tour also in the video). So MUCH FUN AT ONE LOCATION in Murphy's! bricestonevineyards.com
(Okay ... a side note, I brought home a couple bags of this clay and couldn't wait to get my fingers in it when I got home ...it feels delicious!!!! Love the smell of fresh clay :D
Some of the vendors she listed in the video were
Leslies Ceramics
Clay Planet
Clay People with more than was stated!
Thank you so much Pamela for the informative tour and clay!
Hope you all enjoy the tour as much as I did!

Love it! Pamela's clay is the best! The Sandstone buff throws itself. Just put a lump in the center of your wheel and stand back!

You are so right! There was so much more I couldn't get all in one video :) She was telling about how in the 50's her father 1st noticed the plastic wrapping around Thanksgiving turkeys, bought from the manufacturer and that's when the colleges began asking them to provide clay. Such an interesting history!!! :D

Wow! I live in Maryland and found a couple of bags of Quyle clay among other things I purchased from a potter. They stopped making clay in March 2021, so I feel lucky to have it. After seeing your video, I treasure the clay even more! Thank you.

My clay is a piece of hand made art, itself! Just amazing.

Ah! So that's where Leslie's and Clay People get their clay! Murphys is a gorgeous little village. Good video. Thank you. From a student from Laney's ceramic department. (Oakland)

Thank you so much and nice to meet you :D Yes, Murphys is beautiful...the people I met at the facility were from Fremont and said it was worth the drive to come and get their clay. It's an "atmosphere" thing and definitely a fun experience. If you happen to get up that way for a visit let me know what you think!!! :D
