I think LIV should create its own majors spread across the world with huge purses and make it so juicy that PGA Tour players will want to compete. Then, make their own ranking system to completely shut out the current powers that are keeping LIV players from competing in big tournaments bc of politics.

I was hoping they'd shrink the tournament to 2 rounds, up the purse to $10M for the winner, have no cut, and Kilts are optional. One up the LIV, and go beyond, you know, to 'grow' the game.

All majors need liv players in. Ranking system is floored and has been for years. Top 10 players from liv should be allowed into all majors. Surely this is common sense??

No Alex. Phil is grandfathered into the old rule. He Can play the Open until 60. But I agree it’s sad we won’t see many of the past champs as long. This could hinder Tiger but he would get special invite or whatever they have to do. The African amateur exemption is awesome and hopefully Augusta matches that soon. The other criteria is great. Seems like what they are announcing should have been there for years. And it is good for LIv players as most of those spots will be LIv players. But regardless none of this solves the problem that top performances on LIv itself should be rewarded. Imho a LIv win should get in all The majors (if not already qualified). I don’t care as much about the overall LIv standings; but in time that Should be a criteria as well. But we shall see. These majors have other things to consider. But for me, observing, credibility wise LIv is already at the point that whoever wins this Hong Kong event should be in the majors this season.

It’s got nothing to do with Phil. From what I’ve been hearing,Phil won’t even be a playing captain on LIV when his contract expires in a couple years. If you want more exemptions for all the other leagues. You have to give up spots from someplace else.

This is completely bizzarre and seemingly ageist because the physical longevity of players is increasing, not decreasing.

By the way, it was only back in 2007 they dropped the age exemption from 65 to 60. Before it was 65 it was a lifetime exemption. Believe it or not, there once was a time when the British Open couldn't get enough players to fill the field. That's not the case anymore, that's why they are dropping the age down. Also, it does NOT AFFECT PHIL!

I don't claim an understanding for what's going on, I just know that golf is being made more complicated than it needs to be. I hope these 'complications' don't chase away prospective fans.

To be honest I’m not bothered about an ex champion who couldn’t normally qualify playing. Free up some slots for more young players to have a go. Or give more slots to open qualifiers

If this continues, the RNA and PGA will go the route of the OWGR - irrelevant. LIV can make its own ruling body, its own rules body and its own Ranking system. LIV can build much better courses than the current Majors except perhaps for St Andrews but it can use other British venues for a “British” Open and it will be too late for the current Major venues to get back in lock step with reality.

Why bring down the age to 55, I believe people these days at age 60 could still be competitive given the right conditions. These days people look after themselves a lot better, train better and overall have a more healthy lifestyle which equates to people being able to live “younger lives”. Back in the days 60 you were basically retiring and starting to be retired because you couldn’t work anymore. Nowadays people are still entering the workforce. With athletes it used to be 40 and you were done. That’s why jack winning the masters at age 46 was seen as unbelievable but then less than 3 years ago Phil won the 2021 USPGA @50. We all love seeing the past champions play. I say let them play until they don’t want to anymore. Most of the time 85% of the field don’t really have a chance of winning. Realistically they don’t really stop for bad light in the open for lack of light. And really most of them will only play for 2 days anyway. If they good enough to make it to the weekend then it’s justified beating half the field. I don’t see how having 3 spots for LIV tour top players really hinders the field either

While we all like to see the "old timers" playing in the Open, one has to balance that with introducing new faces. Gone are the days when a club pro could qualify for a place and the Open isn't really open any more. That's progress.

The majors are now irrelevent and should have an asterisk as essentially the best PGAT players. Until LIV is given at least 25 spots in the majors i doubt i watch. This can be solved for essily LIV gets 25 spots in the majors, PGA Tour gets 40 spots, European Tour gets 10 spots. The world rankings are done from your finishing position over the 4 majors. If the sport wants integrity start showing the fans some with an honest ranking system instead of the corrupt cartel we now have with OWGR. The PGAT is slowly destroying the game. If they cared about the sport instead of protecting a monopoly they would come together to create a world golf tour. Is golf a global sport or an american sport? Lastly one of the 4 majors must be in Asia. I would like to see it rotate similar to the British Open between Australia, Japan, South Africa. Lastly, Golf is a summer sport. I would like to see an 18 event world golf tour with 8 in the US, 4 in UK/Europe, 1 in Australia, 1 in South Africa, 1 in Japan, 1 in South America, 1 in China, 1 in Middle East. The tour starts in February/March with the southern hemisphere summer months. 3 events and 1 major. South Africa, Australia, South America. The tour then moves to the US for 8 events plus 2 majors and then onto the UK/Europe for 4 events plus 1 major. After Europ you have your event in Japan, China, Middle East. Thats what people want to see.

I'm not watching any events that use the OWGR for their qualifying process anymore. Lucky for me KZfaqr and LIV golf is more enjoyable to watch anyway.

I think changes to the “exemption” rule to 55years of age is a good move (cos,let’s be honest,they’re not going to win it after that age are they) BUT, it should start with/from this year’s champion.

Past champions still get to go till 60 according to the statement. The change is for new champions only.

The golf world will not consider the Majors as true Major Tournaments without the best players in the world competing. Watered down talent in the majors will not happen.

The R&A should be distancing themselves from the current situation. First Impressions are that they are giving opportunities to any tour except LIV. Having LIV players in other tour series takes away an opportunity for the upcoming players on those tours. It has shown that LIV players have dominated certain events on those tours recently. This does not grow the game. What about The Open Qualifying? If top LIV players go down the qualifying route it takes away the opportunity for other aspiring golfers. The Majors will be worse off for not having the best players at their events. Using OWGR as their criteria produces a weaker field currently. We all want to see the best players competing for majors with also the opportunity of a surprise from an unknown player jumping up the leaderboard.

With players staying competitive well into their 50s today I think this is a poor decision. It wasn't that long ago that Tom Watson was at the top of the leaderboard going into Sunday and he was well above the perceived age of contenders. Golf is the one sport left that is built on tradition and it seems lately the governing bodies are doing everything they can to turn their backs on it.

So it’s no longer an OPEN. Whomever can qualify based on golfing prowess should be allowed to compete.

Wow, shocking!!!!....The PGA will be just fine, with the newer players, and some of the players who stayed....The LIV on the Golf Channel was sort of compared to The Champions Tour, but just a few years younger...and they also complain a bit more.....Sad!!!!!

The Open is all about royal...and ancient. I think ALL past champions should be invited to return and put the tournaments emphasis on its "history" which, if you ask me, is the Open's strongest selling point. Having fans come and see past champions is a connection to the game that is unique to the Open and should be emphasized. So, this change is crap, but, there seems to be a lot of crap going around, out-crapping the pga is not feather in the old crown for the r/a.

Before you know it, there will be KZfaq golfers on the Tours and Majors because the good ones will either be too "old" or on LIV. The downward trend continues!

Im 56 and agree with having age limits… i cant stand watching larry mize showing up at the masters and shooting low 80s, its a damn joke to everyone but mize and the masters… take all the old guys out and bring in more players that just missed making it

The problem with letting aging past champoons play is that they no longer can compete at that level and are taking a place of a hungry golfer who potentionally is not finacally secure. I would bring the age diwn to 50 unkess they are playing full time on the PGA or WDP tour.. any LIV golfer should go through the qualifing rounds as they only play 3 rounds with no cut.
