I LOVED the first story and how OP described it as a pillow war. Even if his wife got mad about it, I can't help but think of how hillariously wholesome it sounds.

About that headphone story; that father really made me mad. "It teaches him that life isn't fair." Yeah life isn't fair, but you can't just lay down and let others above you make it even more so. Sometimes you need to stand up for yourself and say that I am not surrendering to your bs. He was scammed, and you need to teach your kid the lesson to fight back if you are being scammed. As a wife, that women's comments about her husband are horrible. A wife should be building up her husband, not tearing him down. Her agreements and comments with her daughter were hurtful and her response to his feelings were awful. This is why men don't want to talk about how they feel when we hurt them because we treat them as a joke. If its against women, yeah we'd get upset with the men but if women upset men, they get laughed at by both women and other men. If our society is so focused on mental health then that needs to include women AND men and just treat each other better. Men are not unfeeling robots so stop with the toxicity.

I think here, OP's parents, cousins and siblings are the biggest A-holes. Without OP's consent, they fixed her marriage and put her in a very stressful situation. The brother and sister in law begging for OPs credit reminded me of something... I was married to an addict, long story short I took the kids and left him and he passed away. I was left a house that we owned with a TON of equity. My brother had me hire his BFF (who was a realtor) to put my house on the market to square the debt and maybe give me and my 3 kids a nest egg. Well, the realtor told my brother how much I was to make in the sale of the house and my brother saw dollar signs. He asked me for loans and asked my parents to work on me to give him loans. A few years ago, a "rich" relative of ours demanded to postpone my brother's funeral, who was a college professor, so she and her family can attend. While I have no experience with Indian culture, I do have experience with attempts at arranged marriages by very controlling parents. I will lay odds that the guy had NO idea that OP wasn't interested in marriage and the whole thing was devastating to him... All because of A-hole parents. I was beyond pissed upon hearing the wedding dress story. If this happened to me, I would cancel the wedding, throw out the fiancé’s shit, and flat out tell the fiancé that we are over, he and his family are no longer welcome in my life and to never contact me again. They would then be blocked on social media and I would post on social media to warn others about him and hope it goes viral. I would also take them to court to make them reimburse me for the cost of the dress plus court fees.

public proposals are a form of emotional manipulation. You're putting the person into a position where if they say no, they look like the asshole. If you wanted to stretch it, since marriage involves sex, this COULD be seen as "attempted forced passionate hugging". Again, that's a stretch, but it is for sure not a cool thing to do. (Obviously this doesn't apply if you already talked about it before-hand and are fine with it.)
