It's for validation. People get into a conflict and want to be told by a large group of strangers that they're on the right side.That's why the vast majority of stories are NTA, because people are less likely to submit a post of they think there's any chance they might be wrong. The neat thing is that people who do submit as the asshole are almost always completely insane.

Most cultures still have the primitive belief that having children is good and important and something you need to do, while more enlightened philosophy paints having children as deeply unethical. Once you realize redditors view all relationships as contracts most of their insane takes start to fall in a line. For example the last example "If I visit you you are contractually obligated to entertain me or have something new and wacky to say otherwise you have not held up your end of the bargain" for some reason makes sense to a redditor, instead of you know, just having friends and being nice to them. Redditors are constantly terrified that someone is getting one-up on them somehow.

nah, for a lot of people it's a way of dealing with expectations their family keeps pushing on them. Trust me, whenever you see someone flying off the handle about kids, they probably hear "When are you gonna get married and have kids?" like 5 times every time they call their mom. If it was what you just said, they wouldn't mid kid crying, would they? But they usually hate crying kids more than everything else
@soasertsus
@soasertsus Жыл бұрын
Bad psychoanalysis, it's definitely more just people who either are pressured about having kids like the other person said or people who are resentful/terrified of the fact that more than likely they're getting/going to get older and eventually most of their friends are going to get married and have kids and then drop out of their lives, leaving them alone. Maybe a splash of people who had bad families and are projecting their trauma onto everyone else.

It can be distressing to see the priorities of everyone in your age group shift to something that, from a certain perspective, just looks like a quality of life downgrade for no tangible benefit. Their lives start to revolve around something that's far outside your experience, and it becomes difficult to relate to the people you once considered friends. It can be a little like your friends were replaced with pod people. I don't necessarily agree with their perspective, but it's really not that hard to understand. No need for that "people dislike a thing I don't dislike, therefor they hate happiness" stance. One doesn't need to be a reprehensible person to have an opinion you find kinda shitty.

There's no way this isn't a troll. Imagine you start doing a new activity, your pick: new sport, new hobby, new job, home renovation, volunteer work, whatever. You do it for 16 hours a day. It's a lot of work but it's rewarding, seeing your effort make unbelievable results. You meet a friend who asks you how you're doing. You give an update on the huge part of your life involving this new activity. The "friend" rolls his eyes and looks at his phone while you're telling him about the biggest change in your entire life and then says "finally" when you ask him how he's doing. No shot you'd be like "oh yeah he's in the right definitely"

I think most people on r/antinatalism actually just hate children and don't want the responsibility of raising kids, or want to push an agenda. I'm an antinatalist, but I actually like being around kids. I watched my friend's baby when she was really young, I like spending time with my niece and nephew. I want my own kids one day, but I won't have them, because it's morally wrong. But I don't hate kids. These people hate children, and they hate people who have children, and they spend all day in an echo chamber full of other people who hate the things that they hate so they can feel good about themselves and feel accepted for their dumbass behavior.

@redtsun67
@redtsun67 7 ай бұрын
@@Bob13454 I believe that to be born is to be cursed in a way. No matter what choices one makes in life, you can't avoid suffering. Suffering is as much a part of life as breathing. Pain and sickness are constant factors of life for every living person. We are all fated to grow old and die from the moment we are born. Learning to endure suffering and rise above it is one of life's challenges, but it's not something we want to do; rather it is something that must be done because the alternative is to kill oneself. The way I see it, no one can choose to be born, so creating a child is like signing a contract for them without their consent. You are forcing them to live, suffer, grow old, and die. Forcing someone into life without their consent is immoral. Simply because you cannot obtain their consent prior does not make it any less immoral, because lack of consent does not equal consent. Therefore, I am an antinatalist not because I hate children, but because I do not want to force anyone into a life they don't want to live. Because I believe it is immoral to force someone to be born, experience suffering, and die.

@@cheilith1031 don't get me wrong, r/antinatalism is awful. The problem is that antinatalism isn't something that you go to a subreddit for - it's much more interesting when applied to a more general view of the world. Because of this, the subreddit has to latch onto hating those who choose to have kids which a lot of the time falls into classism. Yes, having kids is immoral, but people who do immoral actions aren't evil - people are a result of their environment and it is likely that most have never considered the moral reprecussions of having a child.

@@Senjamin please engage in good faith. it is easy to make an emotional stance on this topic - many people do. a lot of people have it hardwired into their brain that to create another life is not only moral, but it ought to be done. both society and nature itself has conditioned us to believe creating human life should be a key part in our lives. you don't have to agree with me, but don't boil down my perspective to being on the internet too much. many factors have led to me adopting such beliefs, and it is important to note that i do not feel any disgust or hatred for those who choose to have kids.
