While the use of such tactics was barbaric, to say nothing of all the other really horrible crap Imperial Japan did during the war, one cannot help but admire the courage, tenacity, and grim determination these young men showed, committing themselves to certain death in order to slow down the Allied advance any way they could. While I do not respect the government and command structure that ordered these young boys to their doom, I can respect the individual courage and fighting spirit that these lads possessed. Gods, Goddesses, and Kami willing, that there might never be a need for such a thing ever again.

Through a modern lens, Kamikaze tactics look incredibly stupid. But when you consider the fact that the Japanese were routinely losing entire flights using conventional bombing tactics against Allied targets, it makes a lot more sense. Every Japanese airman who embarked on a bombing mission was nearly guaranteed to die, and Kamikaze tactics were merely an acknowledgement of that fact.

@@copee3 there is a book called "Memoirs of a Kamikaze" by Kazuo Odachi. He was a kamikaze pilot who survived and became a motorcycle patrol policeman after the war. He lived to his 90's and his book he detailed everything he remembers when he was a pilot during the war. It was a good book because it described the kamikaze's pilot in a more nuanced view instead of your typical "fanatic soldiers dies for the Emperor" shtick.

Well actually most of the Kamikaze pilots were volunteers.

It is a time of democracy and peace, and it is problematic to praise an empire in an era where imperialism is condemned.

@@LukasGomes96 Japan is responsible for Hiroshima and Nagasaki's atomic bomb. The United States has already issued several ultimatums to Japan, which has no chance of winning, and has made an inevitable choice to sacrifice less. I don't intend to defend the atrocities committed by the Soviet Union, but that doesn't mean that your rationale is to support and honor the Axis.

@@LukasGomes96 We now live in modern times and globalization. This is not just globalization caused by the development of communication technology. The world has become better after World War II because we learned from that war. If you don't study history deeply, you won't know why we have the UN, the World Treaty Organization, or international law today. After World War I, each country knew about the danger and suffering of world war, and for peace, each country signed treaties and worked for 20 years to avoid war. However, Germany and Japan started the Second World War with greater imperialism and ambition, and we will begin by holding them accountable for the war. This is the beginning of modern history, liberal democracy and It is the beginning of accepting war crimes and human rights, the beginning of the abolition of imperialism, the beginning of responsibility for war, and the beginning of punishing war criminals. If we say that all countries are bad because of their past imperialism, this story will never end, and above all, it will become an illogical reality in which all countries become war criminals.
