Sorry to hear about you losing your friend. It is so hard to understand why it happened and you tend to question yourself wondering what you could have done to help. Even the closest friends can't always change someones mind that feels there is no end to the sadness they feel. I myself have been through it myself, and I am lucky to say that I was strong enough to find a reason to continue on.

That song has a lot of meaning to me after watching my son fight addiction for 20 years. After many times in rehab he just quit on his own because of his 2 year old niece and 10 month old nephew. Twenty years of crying didn’t work, but hearing a 2 year old say…Uncle Mike did it for him. And writing this makes me tear up. Tomorrow we celebrate one year of sobriety with a steak dinner.

This is a great song! Let me recommend Five for Fighting's "100 years". It's a beautiful song and anyone of any age can relate to this song. Especially when you first have kids.

R.E.M. as a word it is REM. It has different meanings in different contexts. The one I prefer is Rapid Eye Movement - that time in our sleep when we dream and our eyes look in all directions under the lids. R like Rabbit E like Elephant M like Me. There is not a breath said before saying each letter (in English that is). It is like the first 3 letters of "Remember" "REM". We are all connected. Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of a very special friend who I helped get through a really tough time in her life. The song was released during that time and we both feel connected to it .
