That racist woman sounds exactly like this woman I met a few years back. I was dating a dark skinned guy at the time and he brought me to a block party to meet his family and neighbors. Most of them were lovely people but this one woman literally would not leave me alone. She straight up told me I should be with her son instead because he had lighter skin and she wanted white grandchildren. Also her son was in his mid 20s and I was 17. I still feel disgusted thinking about it.

When I was born, my mother wanted to name me either Emily or Amy. But at the time I was born, there were like, four other Emilys on the ward and three other Amys. Did my mother go screaming at all those mothers to change their daughters names so she could have them exclusively for me? No because she's not insane. It just made her decide she wanted to name me something more unique. She and my dad ended up deciding on Cerys.

I think the Dylan I know (he is a good man, my mom’s friend) is the Dylan from the story. In a gathering (casual parent stuff) they talked about his mother having an argument with another pregnant woman about changing the (pregnant woman’s) child’s name. (Of course) Dylan’s mother lost the argument and changed the name to Dylan. This might be pure luck... But it seems suspicious enough

From context I assume OP and her crazy racist aunt live in Brazil. Buying/selling a baby is not illegal there per se as far as I can tell, although using a middleman to arrange it is illegal (the middleman is considered to be committing kidnapping and human trafficking). So, not illegal in OP's country. Immoral? Depends on your particular set of morals. I would argue that if a baby is going to have a terrible third-world life with inadequate sanitation, little access to education, food instability, an overburdened mother already towing 7 kids she can't afford and doesn't have time for, etc. then if some rich, kindly couple offers the mother $30K to buy one of her kids it's a win for everyone and I don't see what's not moral about it.
@FanGirl0721
@FanGirl0721 Жыл бұрын
@@goombapizza6335 Well, yeah. I see where you’re coming from. I guess I never thought about it that way. I mean, that makes sense. It’s for the best interest of the baby. I just worry about how that child will feel when they ask years later what happened. But if they baby and both families will have a good life, I feel like giving is a better way. It’s just the idea of money being used to buy the baby. But if OP GAVE the baby without accepting the cash, then they could do a backhanded trade. Where the rich family just gave money. It’s just the idea of selling the baby that bugs me. But I see where you and now OP are coming from.
@kconway2263
@kconway2263 Ай бұрын
The problem is that those children are extremely vulnerable to trafficking, beyond selling them to infertile couples who just want a baby, I mean. It doesn’t just happen in Brazil, and while I get the parents are often desperate with no other options, it’s hard for us in a first world country to comprehend. I feel for those children. Also, I doubt the parents are getting tens of thousands of dollars (or reals) for their child.

This reminds me of before I knew the gender of my son. Me and my partner were set on a certain name if we were having a girl. My sister who has 4 kids and doesn't want any more, said we couldn't use that name because she didn't get to use it when her last child was a boy. She literally had a full blown melt down. She's almost 26 years old.

You have no idea how much this happens, though. I've heard too many times of parents who really fell down on the job and expect full parental props and respect from their grown offspring. My husband's dad is like that. Said he'd come to events and just didn't show (and it wasn't the typical deadbeat dad thing, my husband freaking lived with his dad!), said he'd do things for his kids and didn't bother, asked his kids if they approved of him marrying the woman he had cheated on their step-mom with and then married her anyway (they said no), and even before that turned a blind eye to the first step-mom's abuse, had a messy divorce, then saddled them with another crappy step-mom who was a compulsive liar and blamed my husband when she got pregnant, claiming he had stuck pins through their condoms. My husband ended up with a warrant out for his arrest at 16 because the car he was driving to do errands for his dad has expired registration and his dad never attended to the ticket his teenaged son got for it. Like always, he swore he'd take care of it and never did. And his son grows up and the man expects to have the right to a father-son relationship... tries to offer advice, calls and talks about nothing, expects him to come out to visit and make nice for family photos even though the guy can't hold a conversation with any of us to save his life. He would even start conversations and glaze over when I responded, so that was enough for me. But what made my husband finally go no contact was something that sounds little but represents years of neglect/abuse... his dad called him for his birthday and said he'd send him money. My husband told him for the nth time not to, that he was fine. But the old fart had to make a show, had to promise big and look like a big guy. Then he didn't send so much as a card. And that was it. One petty lie too many and my husband stopped answering calls from any of them. I personally think he needs therapy for it all, but that would mean finding someone good, and in my experience that's a crap shoot. So at least they aren't able to add to his pile anymore... because believe me, it ain't just the dad. It's the whole pack of people smiling through gritted teeth and never saying what they mean, never opening up in any way, pretending they don't hear anyone who tells it like it is (me, if that wasn't obvious. I'm pretty rude, lol, but it beats living like them). Very manipulative bunch.

When I was a toddler, my mom’s cousin tried to adopt/buy me without my mom’s knowledge. My mom was an immigrant and married my dad while at university. My dad was a pretty bad guy, so she took me (a baby then) and my brother (a bit older) back to her home country. She had strong convictions about raising us in the U.S., so soon she went back with my brother to get settled with a new job in the States. I was left in the care of my grandparents and an aunt and uncle who had children of their own. My mom’s cousin ended up coming over one day and asked my grandparents if they would consider giving me to her as she and her husband were wealthy and had no kids. They promised to raise me like a princess and pointed out that even though my mom was highly educated, she couldn’t give me a stable family life. And they also offered my grandparents money (but that didn’t mean so much since they were also wealthy). My relatives actually considered it, but they came to the conclusion that even if my mom couldn’t take care of me, they loved me too much to give me up. I guess they had low expectations of my mom, but in the end she came and brought me to the U.S., and raised me and my brother by herself.

That coloured hair story reminded me of a ski trip last year. I had coloured my hair for new years eve a couple of weeks before. I went with my mom, my moms coworker and the coworkers two daughters and one of the friends of one of the daughters. One of the daughters had downs syndrome. She got an absolute crush on me because of my pink hair as she always have wanted pink hair herself. It was pretty adorable of her trying to get my attention and blushing when I passed stuff to her by breakfast table.

5:25 Had a friend who discovered what a trans is and it was gold! I was a ward of the state and my roommate wanted to be a girl. He was quite feminine and he mimicked girls all day long. When I would enter the room, I would hear him struggle and one day, I saw he was using pants to make hairs. Told him that I was totally fine with that and that I just don't care and won't annoy him whatsoever, not even mock him. So, he feel in peace and was "girly". Fast forward few years, I am with another friend and I spot that trans friend in the train because she stares at me and I kind of recognize (I am bad with faces, very bad) me. Then she says my name and I recognize the voice. So, I say to my friend that I leave him to speak with an old friend. I speak for a long time, so the friend come over and is visibly shocked. When we go out of the train: "Where is the boy you were talking to? I did not understood." Explained to him that the "boy" was the girl I was talking too and that he is transitioning. He got puzzled for a while😂 I also knew a big guy who was openly gay. Once, I was with my brother and that guy comes into the coffee. So, I slide to leave him room to sit next to me and now, he is facing my brother who is a though guy. The guy start to tease him then my brother go get a walk. As a big asshole, I said to the guy: "My brother is straight, but visibly annoyed. Can you go full steam for fun". What followed was EPIC. The guy became exuberant, very demonstrative and almost everyone would be quick to get that now, it was meant as a joke. But because my brother was totally not comfortable, it did last very long. Then we told him it was a joke and that he can say "no" without offense. Had also the case where I didn't click as quick as I should. Had a friend who invite me to go out, in the first bar, it's a spectacle of quick changer (?), people who can quickly change their appearance. Then after that, we go to a bar. When we enter, I see the bartender dressed like a sailor and I do the remark: "Oh, you see, the bartender is dressed like a sailor". The friend laugh then we sit at a table and order. He stand up and kiss some guys on the cheek. Happen that I grew in a place where man did that, so, not shocking. Then I go to the toilet, miss that there is no lady room, but shocked to see HIV prevention ads, and big muscular guys on the walls. So, when I go back to the table: did you saw in the toilet, all the adds about HIV and the big guys. Then the friend: "What, it didn't click ?!". Then it clicked ^^ Felt like a complete moron :-p

To be perfectly honest the last one about the lady trying to buy a child sounds very much like a South American country. I’ve done two deployments in the USMC down there and the culture, attitude, the descriptive words, the fact that the uncle came from an island nation (Caribbean Im guessing), OP working in politics in a totalitarian government, some other cues lead me to that guess. In South America it’s not uncommon to find people with European heritage and typically the lighter skinned and thus more European heritage you have in your blood, you’re usually looked at as higher class. These are assumptions based on what I know of culture down there but again it’s only a guess. Italian and Polish heritage isn’t uncommon especially after WW2. Racism is really rather prevalent down there.

“Back In the day when sears wasn’t dying and sad” I had to pause the video to laugh so I wouldn’t miss anything. Also Cody is also a gender-neutral name that’s viewed as a boys name. And a name like Ashley use to be a boys name back in the day, but is now only commonly used in girls. That lady is dumber than snake mittens. And why would you pick a very used generic name and expect to not know someone else who has that name. Be more original instead of trying to “dibs” a name. I didn’t tell anyone what I was going to name my daughter before she was born because of people like this.

I have some cousins that come from Quebec and France and quite a few of them have a variation of names with Marie in it. For example: Jean-Marie, Jean-Francois Marie or Francois-Marie. One day one of my ex friends came over to have a play date and she said that all the boys in my family must be homosexual because they have a girls name somewhere in their full name. It insulted the French side of the family because they are very much Catholic... And are French. It isn't uncommon for a man who is French to have the name Marie attached to another name. As a matter of fact, from what one of my aunts said, I believe in France and Quebec, Marie could be used by both genders. It's actually really rare for the name Marie to be used on its own unless a person specifically says to call them that.

My aunt's name is Ashley. They thought she was going to be a boy before she was born and they were going to name her after a character from Gone With the Wind. When she turned out to be a girl, they kept her name, but my great-grandmother was initially extremely upset with the decision since Ashley in the book is a boy, and Ashley was thought of as a boy's name.

(This ended up being longer that I expected it to be sorry to anyone who reads) The story about the aunt trying to buy the baby sounds a lot like some countries in South America. I say this because the cultural aspects of wanting to appear more European is exactly how my dad described Peru to me. His dad was born in the mountains in Peru and when you looked at him there was no denying that he had native Andean ancestry. When his family moved to Lima it didn't matter that his family had mostly European ancestry because most of them looked native which, in my dad's words, held them back from opportunities to rise up in society (which is why my grandfather ultimately left Peru for good. He'd moved up as far as they'd let a "native" in the medical field, which wasn't very far). When he came back from medical school in America with a 100% Irish, red haired, pale as death wife his family *adored* her. My grandfather's social standing went up simply for having a wife who was white. When my dad and, a couple years later, my oldest uncle were born (both with blonde hair and light eyes, my uncle with fair skin) they were treated "as if they were the second coming of Christ", in my dad's own words. Their hair eventually darkened to black, but three out of my dad's four brothers were unarguably European so my grandfather's family saw that as a huge win. My dad and one of his younger brothers have a darker complexion, but compared to their father they were very light skinned so, again, a win for his family. About six years ago my family travelled down to Peru to visit my dad's family. My mom is blonde haired, blue eyed, and fair skinned. Both my sister and I are blonde, fair skinned, and my sister got my mom's blue eyes. Two of my half siblings from my dad's first marriage came too, my brother also very fair skinned, blue eyed, and with lighter hair. My dad's family down there doted over us, and not just because it was the first time we were meeting. My dad's aunts and cousins always found some way to bring up how beautiful the color of our hair was and how we needed to avoid tanning because our skin was "just right". I even overheard one of my dad's uncles congratulating him about my mom and even his first wife who was just as fair skinned as my mom. I was really confused because I was thirteen and had no idea about the societal pressure to look European, which lead to my dad explaining it all to me. They're all wonderful people and my dad's generation and onwards have all found great success in their lives now. None of them are like the aunt in the story (except for my great uncle's wife who blatantly told us not to marry Asians, black people, or natives and to stick to Europeans and the "right" Peruvians [she's calmed down a lot since then and even attended our cousin's wedding in Baltimore to a Chinese American woman a couple years ago, but it was *wild* ]). It's just interesting how these societal factors carry down from generation to generation.

I feel like I would do what that baby name story parent would do, as in give my future kid a gender neutral name, not only cuz of the job thing, but also in case they end up identifying as a transgender yet still binary, or trans non-binary. It would save a lot of trouble on them finding a new name because their original name is specific to their original gender that they don’t identify with, you know?

I thought of this exactly and named my baby something we could change one letter if they identified as male. Even if they identified as non binary the names are so neutral it'd be hard to pinpoint. When I was pregnant people would ask boy or girl and I'd say chaos.

I'm not an expert but from what I've heard most Trans and NB people change their name because they associate their name with their old self. A gender-neutral name isn't gonna change that.
