I had a Karen come into my clinic and demanded free flea/tick meds because she was the owners Sister. I don't have a Sister. I stepped out of my office, and explained the situation well she wasn't listening. She kept screaming that she was going to get me fired for being rude to her. I finally had enough and told her to get the hell out of "MY CLINIC!", or I was going to have her arrested for trespassing. She left while everyone was laughing at her.

My wedding was a disaster. First of all, days before the event her dad came down with pneumonia and was hospitalized. Well, the ceremony was being held 100 miles away, everything was already paid for, and we both had family coming in from out of state, so we couldn't change plans. He understood. The venue was locked when we and our guests arrived. The pastor showed up two hours late and reminded us that he had warned us he "might be a little late" because it was Easter Sunday. OK, he got there, my wife got into her dress, everyone sat down and her uncle walked her up the aisle. The ceremony proceeded smoothly. Then we set out refreshments on a table in the back for our guests and the pastor and his wife (the organist) got this horrified look on their faces. "What do you think you're doing?" they screamed. We told them this was the reception. Just some cake and a few plates of hor d'oeuvres and some simple beverages. They were aghast that we would do such a thing. "No one ever does that!" they screamed again. I walked up to the guy, put my face right into his and in my best tough-guy voice (I was in the Army at the time and could make myself very intimidating) told him that's what we're doing and what did he plan to do about it. Our party lasted about two hours, everyone was well-behaved (it was very small, only like 20 people and no small children), and afterward we cleaned up after ourselves so you would never even know we were there. Did such a horrible day ruin our marriage? Nope - that was 35 years ago and we are still together. Putting too much emphasis on the wedding itself is silly. It's just one day out of (potentially) a lifetime together.

Something always goes wrong at a wedding. You really see what people are like then. I had two weddings, same guy, same year. When he got out of Boot Camp, before he reported to his school (Navy nuke), we eloped to the county judge who helped us through the ceremony and license and stuff. Then we threw a wedding on this adorable little church on his base. The Navy pastor thought the whole idea, getting married legally, but having a less stressful wedding for both families and friends, with the religious trappings, was fantastic. And, 30 years later, it still works. You're right. It's just one day. Technically, it's a party you throw for yourselves to tell everyone you found someone you hope to spend the rest of your life with.

My parent's wedding was organized by the family and it was in the garage of one of my aunts. Most of the money basically went into the honey moon and the savings jar for a new house as my mother herself made the veil and the flower decorations, while also getting a nice plain dress a lot cheaper than the usual extravagant wedding dresses that are sold these days. They've been married for 21 years now.

@Ami Thomas Your dad sounds like a guy I could party with. Nice guy! Even though your wedding story is awful, at least you have a great story to tell 16 years later. Everytime something really terrible happens to me (sadly more times than I would wish on anyone) I think to myself, "Well, maybe my kids can learn from this." Oh, and I didn't mention that moments before the wedding ceremony, my mother-in-law pulled my wife and I into a closet and told us, "It's not too late to call this off." She didn't believe we were meant to be together, like you mother. I didn't have any choice about talking to her. She moved in with us and stayed for 25 years before she passed on. (Also, she left $200,000 to a charity. She never liked us much.)

True. My grandfather had Alzheimer’s disease. In his case he died of other health problems before he completely forgot who we were, but the fits he’d have when the outside world didn’t line up with his inside world were really difficult to witness. Before that, he was a sharp, hard working dude with a funny way of telling a story. Watching him become a man who wore two hats because he didn’t remember that he already had one on remains one of the worst things I’ve seen in my life. I truly wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

It was Harry Selfridge, and the complete sentence was, "In matters of taste, the customer is always right." In other words, if the customer wants to buy plaid pants to wear with a polka-dot shirt, make the sale. It NEVER was meant to allow customers to do anything they want or get everything they ask for. Unfortunately, a lot of people today think it's some kind of law and they make ridiculous demands.

I’ve worked in retail, food service and at a golf course. Did I ever abide by that crazy ass unwritten rule??? HELL FUCKIN NO 🤪🤪 I worked at HOLLISTER at my local mall for a bit. They told me that if I saw someone blatantly steal something (taking a shirt &stuff it in their purse 4 example), that I was to politely walk up to the person and kindly say “hi there, can I interest you in a pair of jeans to go with the shirt you just picked out?”. I looked the assistant manager in the eye and said “um no. Not doin that. If I see that happen, I’m grabbin the person with a death grip on their arm snatch the purse and locking them in the broom closet. And if they try to run out the store? I’m gonna tackle them. I used to be a money lender. If the person started acting 'entitled' during the application process, they didn't get the loan. All I had to do was find a reason to turn them down, and believe me, there are many more reasons not to make a loan then there are to make one. Lesson, if a person starts acting entitled before a contract (loan, marriage, or any contract) is even signed, drop out now. You will regret it in the future if you don't.

Things guys need to consider if they want to get married : 1 ) It doesn't matter how grand it is, it must be something affordable 2 ) Don't take any loans. Save money instead. 3 ) Make sure that there's still a bit of savings after the ceremony and honeymoon. In my country, there's a lot of cases of debt after marriage just because they want something grand but couldn't afford it.

Not going to lie I actually have had a relationship end over the wedding. It was for the best. He wanted to do what his mom wanted, a big traditional church wedding with all the bells and whistles. I had 3 problems with it. 1) I'm not religious and getting married like that not only made me uncomfortable, but feel disrespectful to religious people. 2) I don't have any family. No relatives at all. I was a foster child and I recognized that they were not people I wanted in my life. So the thought of being surround by people I didn't know on my big day made me think about how upsetting it was to be without a family. 3) we had no income yet. We had just graduated high school. I knew it would be extremely hard to go into debt right as we entered adulthood. In the end he accused me of not loving him. I'm glad I didn't marry him. Because now I've met someone I can talk things out with respectively and we compromise for each other.

Father Time probably had dementia. My late dad used to do a lot of crazy things until he became immobile. Before my mom retired from retail, he would go around the store screaming for her if she was not out exactly at the end of her shift. She always told him to come at least 10 minutes later, but he wouldn't. He would also do that when she was grocery shopping. He would get upset if he couldn't see her all the time. Even if he went home while she shopped, he would get upset to be alone for an hour. He just thought if he decided something, he could do it, even if it was parking at a stop sign. He would tail gate because he thought drivers were going too slow through town. He couldn't help it. We were glad when his driver's license was invalidated by his doctor.

If you have to do something extravagant in order to 'prove' how special the day is, rather than simply knowing it's special because this is the person you're spending the rest of your life with, then it's time to reevaluate your relationship and life.

Which upon looking reward immediately was a type of consistent behavior that I had simply closed my eyes too as it had worsened. And that was the end. I had remained obvert up to that point. I realized then that I had been fooling myself. Their child didn't really respect nor like me either so... It's actually pretty hard to realize one has been pretending that the largest and most glaring issues can be "fixed" or "ignored" for the sake of love. When in reality the most loving thing that can be done is to let them go.

I said: I apologize, would you like a new item or would you like your money back?" You could literally see all the air go out of him. He had worked himself up and preparing himself to fight for this, and got very confused when he didn't have too. Funniest face I ever seen. Of course we have our idiots costumer to. Like a guy that wanted to take out 3000 NOK(around 300 dollars). I said we changed our system 3 weeks ago and he would now how to do this via out new bank system. Unfortunately his bank wasn't in our system, so I couldn't get him the money. I offered to take out 1000 for him, that I could still do on the old system. After complaining a lot he said he woudl take the 1000 and I started ringing up his goods. He then accused me of slamming his wares on the counter because I was mad about him not getting his money out, and he would call my manger if he said me doing it again. The first story with Father Time doesn't really come across as an entitled person to me. If you're elderly and find your way to Kmart then you're probably someone trying to stretch your buck as far as it can. His pension might not go very far, hence the coupon. Also, some elderly folks like to have keepsakes from the past. He may have had some old magazines or newspapers and got the coupon from them thinking they're recent. And as some people have mentioned in the comments he may have already started to have dementia as can be seen by the sudden mood change and aggression. Had I been in the same situation, I would have just given him the candy bar and paid out of my own pocket and even handed him the penny. A dollar isn't going to make or break you, but showing some compassion would go a long way. I work in a restaurant and I've done this a few times. There was a time when an elderly lady walked in to order some take out. Her husband died a few years back and her grown children were all living far away so she was alone. She didn't feel like cooking so she was going to get something she could eat for dinner and for lunch the next day. Her children don't really support her. They send her some money on holidays or her birthday, otherwise she makes do with her monthly social security check. Anyhoo, her takeout is cooked and she's ready to settle her bill. Turns out she's about $3 short. She's mortified and was worrying about what to do. I tell her I forgot that we had a special promotion and her food is actually discounted $3 (even though it's not) I hand her the food and tell her to enjoy her meal. I covered the difference.

Poor guy at the end. Weddings can be beautiful, the way you imagine them, and inexpensive. Planning one right now. I can't handle the thought of paying thousands for a damn ring to begin with (still picking out my engagement ring but I HATE diamonds and love cubic zirconia...I won't let him spend more than $50 on a ring). So many women believe the amount a man spends on a ring determines how much the man loves them. F*** that! The determining factor is the proposal itself! Flowers? Who needs a ton of flowers and especially roses? We will only have fake flower bouquets and boutonnieres (my 1st wedding were real and damn near impossible to have saved them). Only real flowers will be the petals for the flower girls (and dudes). No rented tuxes. Dress pants, shoes, button ups, ties, and a vest. They can be worn again and most guys already have them. Making most of the things myself. Etc etc. It can be done. And I HATE when people call it "the bride's day" cause that is such a common perspective, but I see it as the bride AND grooms day...like that dude in the story said. Good for him! When it comes to romantic relationships, give someone a pass once. The next time tell them that you don't like what they're doing and ask them to politely stop. Two things on the story about the Kmart cashier. Firstly, I'm glad you survived your first day because that old man's behavior was so far out of bounds that it makes me think he needs to be under some sort of supervision. Secondly, well I understand you are writing for an internet story I'm trying to be descriptive to show the dichotomy between this old man's appearance and his behavior, your description of this old man sort of ticked me off as it sounded ridiculing and not just descriptive. A senior that old quite often doesn't have the mobility to stand around ironing everything they own. And if he wears White Sox, who cares? Sometimes White socks are recommended for certain foot conditions. Also, a lot of people buy items in bulk to save money so it's quite possible that he simply wears the same color socks all the time. If he's as old as you say, wearing suspenders and a belt with a bow tie is another issue of who cares? He's obviously not helpless if he can swing a chain around the way he did but, old or young, you cannot judge a person by what they are wearing. Some of the best stress people have the trashiest manners. Some people who are lucky to have shoes and a winter coat or the most gracious people you will ever meet. Okay well here's a third thing. If this man was so old and moved so slowly, then why did no one from the store follow him outside even if only to get his license plate number to follow up with the police?

I work retail. We are told not to confront or chase after customers that steal items. That is up to loss prevention to deal with. Her attention is on making sure she is better and not what loss prevention is doing.

lol This made me laugh. I think you are reading way too much into it. I was aware others wouldn’t gaf what he looked like as I admitted that it was only personally important to me that I describe him in as much detail as possible. He looked like every kindly elderly gentleman feeding birds at the park you ever saw. And if you saw the unnatural shade of dayglo white these socks were, you’d have mentioned them too. And he was the first bow-tie I had ever seen outside of Bill Nye. So :P But seriously, I used no words like “decrepit” “poor” “vile” ect to put any inflection on him that would paint him in a demeaning light. I simply described him in great detail. They told us not to stop them. Only security could physically stop a customer in the store. but once they left the store that is the police department’s territory.

My father’s business is a swimming pool repair&remodel type as well, if this happened to him I’d tear that Karen a new one, I can’t tolerate anyone who thinks they have a right to treat my father’s business like that!! She’ll be looking at a lawsuit!
