"Boys will be boys" is one of the most infuriating excuses I've ever heard. because I've heard it always used to excuse boys of things they really shouldn't get away from. Bullying other kids, stealing, being rude or behaving poorly in public, and worst of all sexual assault.

Yeah. Why is it "OK" for boys to be criminals, but if a girl stands up for herself, and say, "Hey! Stop that!" she gets in trouble for not being feminine? It stinks!

Trouble is, daughter should have researched her market better. That is solely on her. Secondly, regardless of whether the business succeeds or fails (and regardless of the reason why) she owes her father for the contractual amount remaining on a contract she signed. That's how come that really old saying "Let the buyer beware" came into existence a few hundred years ago. It doesn't even matter, legally, that it was her father selling her a dud business. She would have lost her "blood, sweat and tears" and money over ANY business she bought if it was a "dying" industry. Familial ties aside, those are the apparent facts as told by OP. It's like when you buy a Lemon Car from Uncle George. You made the decision. You live with the consequences.
@jdlech

@@Kayenne54 That contract was completely null and void when she proved her father cooked the books when he sold it to her. That's called fraud. Not only could she have gotten out of the contract, but she could have had the entire transaction reversed - he would have owed her every cent she paid him in return for all the defunct company's assets. I would agree with you had there not been fraud involved. But the transaction was the result of fraud. No due diligence, or the lack thereof, matters beyond that point. He broke the law. At the very least, he should have been charged, convicted and imprisoned regardless of her wishes.

Ok. This may not be a viable track for her depending on if she is from the US or not, as I don’t know how many countries laws work this way. She should turn around and counter sue him for selling him a dying business without him being up front with it. This could easily be proven if he had no profit for years as they said in the story. Basically he sold his business under false pretenses and it’s not her fault it failed. If you sell a dying company you need to be upfront about whether your making money or not. I buy, sell and invest in small business’s for a living (it’s not as glamorous as you might think). I have had people ruin their lives by lying about their business being profitable or skipping that part all together. If you sell someone a dying business without them knowing your essentially stealing from them and it’s considered fraud.

“Boys will be boys.” Is not a viable excuse for bad behaviour in a boy/man. It is a statement reason for why 2 10yo boys want to beat the shit out of each other for fun, or 2 grown men want to show off how much weight they can move. Males of all ages typically enjoy using there physical strength. So raising a boy to know how and when it is appropriate to use said strength is extremely important. Otherwise u end up with a man in jail with a long list of assault charges.

A lot of day care operators will give parents a set of rules/guidelines. A very common one is, if you pick your kid up more than a set time late - say 1/2 hour - they will call CPS or the police. Also, the day care lady was being paid for 7 to 4, not 7 to 6. Would you expect a store to stay open 2 hours late so you can pick up your purchase? Not likely - and a crying hungry baby is way more important, and way more trouble than a purchase.

The after school daycare that some of the teachers ran at my elementary school had a very specific closing time. They just let everyone know that if the child stays longer that the parent would have to pay for the extra time. They would probably call the police too depending on how long it was. Some people need to understand that you can't waste other people's time or even your child's time. I can only imagine some kid having to sit in the school cafeteria waiting on their parents, but they didn't show. Hell, my anxiety started getting bad when I was one of a few people left after everyone went home.

The house I grew up in had a small orchard and apple trees in the front yard and we would always catch people stealing an apple or two. I do remember this one lady I think was in her late 50’s or early 60’s knock on our door asking if she could have the apples that fell on the ground to make applesauce for her elderly mom. My dad asked her to come back in an hour and we would have some ready. She came back and we had several bags full of apples, pears, 2 kinds of plums and a small container of mixed raspberries and strawberries. My dad told her he didn’t feel comfortable giving her the stuff off the ground since we still had a ton on our trees and more than we could eat. I didn’t expect her to cry, she’s on disability as was her mother and she had just lost her husband so hearing that made me cry and my dad got teary eyed. She did come back a few days later with the most amazing apple cobbler and plum jam I have ever tasted for us as a thank you.

A lot of gas stations (in Florida since i can't speak for the rest of America) let you make your own coffee and then pay for it. I'm actually never seen an employee make a drink for someone, unless it was at Wawa. Even then, that's only drinks like smoothies, milkshakes, and special flavored hot chocolate. Regular hit chocolate and coffee was still something that the customer makes and then check out after.

My mom used to joke that our neighbors were were-beavers. When I was between 10 and 15 we moved to this duplex house where we shared an old Victorian house with our landlord on the left and us on the right and walls up the middle of the house to divide it. The next house over to the right, which shares half a driveway with ours (double wide at the entrance, then splits off to each single drive that ends at your back door). We had fences on 3 sides. On the right side we also had a row of beautiful trees of varying kinds that our landlord's parents had planted long ago. The fence was on the other side of the trees to indicate that they belonged to us. This family of 3 adults move in, parents and one grown son who seemed to be mentally handicapped. They did alot of woodworking so we'd hear all sorts of machinery going at all hours. We rarely saw them before sunset and we never once saw them bring any groceries in, but they brought in tons of lumber and bags of sawdust. The son would often stand in his yard for hours staring at the massive oak tree in the middle of our backyard. One day we noticed that the trees seemed to be thinner so we went to investigate and sure enough, the trees were getting cut down and stolen. My landlord never caught them in the act but one day hollered at them to leave his trees alone and that pretty much stopped it. Crazy.

Last story- I was a day care provider for several years also. One of my pair of parents had a habit of showing up about 20-30 minutes early every morning. At pick up time, mom would always be 45-60 minutes late and then hang out in my house or yard because if she got home a little late her hubby would make dinner. Now, firstly, I wasn’t getting paid for an hour or hour and half extra every day, secondly, they were taking up extra space in my house and distracting my kids, and thirdly, I. Was trying to prep dinner for my kids, husband and elderly mom, and we hated eating so late! I finally gave her a bill at the end of the month for the early arrivals, late pick ups and hang time. Guess what? She paid it and was never too early or late again and pick up took 15 minutes or less. Problem solved money talks.

The father suing his own daughter - there is a reason to put the person’s name on the title and I think this is smart, IF you can trust the person not to become an asshole. Wells are more often fought over and those you want to have the house may not end up with it. But for a father to scam his own daughter to get back at the mother often so long - there is truly something wrong with him. He see a away to take more and he want for it. I wonder if he had a fair idea what was going to happen and he plan this? This one is so sad.

I had a neighbor that lived in the trailer court behind me. She had at least 8 kids, hers, relatives, grandkids etc, who were allowed to roam. The kids would gang up on all the other kids in the neighborhood and once threw rocks at my 3 year old who was playing in my fenced backyard. I complained to the mother/grandmother who proceeded to show up at my house with several other women to scream at me. Then the kids started peeing on my basement windows and once broke a bedroom window with a rock. I had called the cops who warned her then Child Welfare was contacted and the family moved away. It was scary and hellish at the time. I wasn’t their only target, they gave the 6 year old, who lived a few houses down, a concussion by banging his little head into the side of a parked pickup until the truck had a huge dent in it and the boy was unconscious. They waylaid any kids they saw and robbed them of anything of any value, no one could leave anything in the yard, bikes, toys, lawn furniture all disappeared. We went from a community that seldom locked their doors to hyper vigilant.

We had a kid like that where I grew up. He stole toys and attacked other kids. I put a stop to it. A home made 'cattle prod' made to look like a crude sword, with the battery in my pants pocket and some lamp cord run under my shirt and down my long sleeve shirt, and it was game time. He saw me with it and demanded it 'To tie it in knots!'. I told him to go away, so he tried to take it from me. He hit a note so high that dogs were barking! He yelled, "My mother is going to call the Sheriff and have you arrested!" I just laughed and told him to go cry to his mommy. (He was about 12) His 'mommy' was with him a few minutes later, yelling at me for ;hurting her baby boy'. I told her to shut up and go home, and if he tried to hurt any other kids again, I would get them all togeter to beat him until he needed to be in the hospital. He never bothered any of us, again. We had another idiot who was 19. He would run up behind people and wrap his arm around their neck as he jumped on their back. He did that to me, but I leaned forward as he jumped. He went flying over my head, and landed on his ass. He ran off screaming to his aunt. She came back to tell me off, I told her that if he jumped on my back again, he was really going to get hurt. He never did it again. 😁

I had a similar situation years ago; we had a corner lot with raspberries and strawberries; the neighborhood kids would come over while we were gone and raid them, keep in mind these were 3-7-year-olds. I told the parents to keep their kids out of our backyard, only to be told that's what we get for planting them. Several days later, I came home to find them in our backyard, I told the kids to be careful eating them as I found bugs in them and they may get worms! The little Sheister's scamper out asap. I had two angry moms at my door cussing me out within the hour. I laughed and said, keep your kids off my property, and you wouldn't have to deworm them. None of the plants had bugs or worms, but it solved the problem.

Nothing fancy, just a statement of how I would handle vacations, health problems, late pickups, etc. The premier line was: "Like you, I have kids AND a private life. While I understand occassional late pickups will happen, I will not tolerate abuse of my time!". I never had any problems. One client's job often involved evenings, but we had an understanding that I would be notified & that I could take the child with me if I was going out with my own kids. 30yrs later, we're still good friends.

Just because that's not *your* cup of tea doesn't mean that's "shortcomings." OP had every right to fire her as a client after being left with two extra hours without asking but seriously, this bit is enough to wonder if the story wasn't embellished just because OP got butthurt and didn't like that her client didn't want to sit around and gossip. I wouldn't want to hang around and chat with the babysitter either if I had things to do. That paragraph alone is enough to make me think maybe mom was picking up on OP's dislike and wanted to switch but couldn't without someone else's input (maybe dad's), especially if she was usually on time and that was the first time anything weird happened. If OP fired her as a client it'd be a lot easier negociating babysitting rates with partner/whoever else is paying.

Story #2: OP, go no contact. If that douchebag father of yours is willing to nuke your sister over a petty grudge, he will try and nuke your life too given the chance. Lawsuits are not cheap, and it adds unnecessary stress to the parties involved, which is why some people see it as a cheap and dirty way to get back at people they do not like, even if they know the lawsuit is frivolous and they have no chances of winning. It's just there to stress out the person being sued as a big "F-U". You do not need that in your life, and as the old saying goes "prevention is better than cure". Better to sever ties than trying to mitigate the damage when your douchebag dad files a lawsuit against you for trumped up reasons (likely the grandkid, since OP mentioned he has one).

Actually, leaving your child at day care over the agreed time is a breach of several laws; tax, licenseing and insurance being just a few of them. The carer can and should report the mother for child abandonment. Liability insurance only covers carers during their care hours, usually 7-8am until 4pm. If something happened to the carer, the home or the child after those hours, the carer would not be insured. A carer is only licensed to care for a child during working hours. If the child is there outside those hours the carer could lose their license.

In the end when I said no, he got a major shitty on. He had gone out looking at cars even though he had no money, and had found and agreed to buy one. Next step, me. The conversation went, ''I've found a car and agreed to buy it. Can I borrow £9000, I will pay it back?' Me, 'No' Chris, 'Why not?' Me, 'Because I said so, and it would take a month to get the money as it's locked away' Chris, 'That's no use to me, I need it by the weekend' Me, 'Not my problem' He walked out and I refused every request/demand from him after that. Story 3: the true idiotic thing about so many entitled people is that a lot of people will let you pick a few berries and give you some of their freshly grown produce if you ASK first. I, for one, am not at all against sharing anything I grow, anything I cook, or any tools I have with my neighbors if they need anything. I'm even okay with neighbors coming into my backyard and their kids playing on my property, as long as they respect me and any boundaries about my property, don't carelessly do damage and not tell me about it, and don't litter. If people didn't act so entitled and just asked and were kind to other people and respected boundaries instead of being rude and demanding, everyone would be a lot happier. Unfortunately, our society is far too individualistic and self-centered these days, and this leads to rude and demanding people making it impossible to foster that sense of community.

I've been working in retail since September and I've had like 3 weird/ like entitled [??] stories. 1. A woman said I smelled like a baby. I was wearing Warm Brown Sugar perfume. So like idk what that meant. Does it mean I smell like baby shite? Do I smell like baby powder? 2. On my 3rd day of work, I was ringing up an elderly man. He was quiet talking and I already have hard hearing, and I had to get him to repeat a few times to leave his drink out of the bag. After I think the 2nd time, he snapped on me. And it honestly scared me because I've never had a stranger yell at me like that. 3. I was ringing up a family who bought a ton of stuff. $150 worth of stuff. For the small store I work in, that's a lot of stuff. Apparently I was being too slow with ringing up stuff. I was having to fold stuff to make sure the scanner could read the barcode and I was making sure it didn't get rung up twice. Because again, it was within my first week of working there. The 20 something year old daughter kept complaining that I was too slow. My hands were already shaking because they get like that when I ring a lot of people up. I guess maybe a nerve thing. But the woman being rude made it worse because I kind of take things like that to heart. It's just who I am, or was. Since being in the store, I've grown thicker skin. Even my manager on the shift, who was stocking shelves nearby, came out afterwards and asked me if they was being rude.

Karen's are so lazy and entitled, so sad.😂😂🤪 Yeah I've never been to a gas station or a 7-Eleven that the employees made your coffee or slurpees. 🤷🤦🤪 Happy Friday eve folks!!😊😊

I have but that's only because the machines were behind the counter.

Story 1: Honestly had she asked nicely maybe OP would have helped her quickly but then again had no obligation to help her. People, I swear...

Story 1 closest I've ever had to a gas station attendant making me a coffee is when the pot was empty or the machine wasn't working right

OP, call the police on those two kids. Regardless of age, they’re trespassing.

Should have made them pay premium over stolen fruits vs suing them for trespassing, harassment, and theft.

At a gas station you are not paying for any service, commodities are what you pay for. Technically true for most stores (including Walmart). Good service is just their way of keeping customers.

This lady literally was going to complain that the people at the GAS STATION weren’t making her coffee?

For some reason, story 1 made me think about the customers who come into my shipping store and stare at me after I hand them a self-sealing bag to put their item in. We've even had people say "I don't know how to do that." If you don't know how to put an item into a bag, pull off an adhesive strip and close it then literally how did you not die to something stupid earlier in life? And yeah I know they say it just so they don't have to do it but I want them to know how dumb they sound. The saddest part is they probably don't care, they just feel good that they got the lowly employee to put their item in the bag.

My dad belittles and otherwise treats my sister like crap, going so far to actively sabatage her relationships with her inlaws and still expects full access to her kids. Because, he's the "dad"

I will never understand parents that ignore a call from a caregiver. Like what if something was seriously wrong with the child!!?!?

I agree that she should have sued for the value that garbage human was suing for. If money is his only love, take what he loves away.

A Dad sells his daughter a turd he knew couldn't be polished and blew up his whole family all because he wanted to stick it to his ex and take her house that he didn't get 33 yrs earlier in a divorce?!? Omg! Like Omg! That is so sick it's sad. He rather have his money than his family...there are no words. I bet when the daughter bought the business from her Dad she wanted to make it a success not just for the money but to make her Dad proud of her and to keep his business going. I can see distant relatives that screw each other out of money because they're not that close to them but this is just so sad. I feel so bad for that family.
