Ring story - when my friend got engaged and married she and her husband did not have a lot of money, so her engagement and wedding rings were very basic. Years later they were both making good money, in fact the husband was making great money and he really wanted to upgrade her rings to show how much he loved her but she would have none of it. The sentimental value of her original rings made them priceless.

My Nans wedding ring (RIP), which my dad still has, is a copper ring with a steel inlay where the ring touched the skin (so the copper doesn't stain the skin). This was because my Nan was born in 1913, She was a Cockney and the working class lived in the kind of poverty that we would expect of a third world country back then. She never got it replaced, even when they had the money later in life, because it was a reminder of how far they came.

Fortunately, I live in an area where it is rare to see people driving like total idiots. That being said, there is a major interstate nearby where out of staters seem to think that there is no speed limit. Despite that, however, we, for the most part, don't see very many bad crashes, but there are a few. Being retired from the trucking business, I'm no longer in a tearing rush to get anywhere, so I keep right except to pass for the most part, but I still run dashcams front and rear in my vehicles, because you never know when some screwloose idiot will get you in their sights, intentional or not. and as we see on here constantly, people will lie in a heartbeat to deflect blame for their own stupidity in a crash, so you really need to cyoa..

Also she literally believed some dude she had just met over her son that she'd been raising for years. After years of raising him she should know what kind of person her son is and that would instantly tell her that something wasn't adding up. Also a normal parent would've confronted their kid about the issue rather than just believe what someone else said.

One thing I always tell my kids when they have something better than me? Whether it be a nicer house, car, etc? Is congratulations and/or, well done! As a parent, you should be happy and very proud that your kids outshine....YOU! Why? Because it shows/reflects on you as a parent, that you have brought your kids up to be independent and self sufficient. Yes, you may have aided with their educational expenses. And yes, you may have helped them with financing their first car, which may have been a beater, etc, etc. My point is that if your kids have become more "successful" than you? Then your hard work and dedication paid off for the behalf of your child/children. Being envious/jealous of your child's success is just nonsense. You may have paid the money, but your child obviously did the work, to come out on top. Take pride in your kids success. Continue to be a positive influence in their success. Your children will repay their respect towards you later, as you age. Remember! What goes around comes around! My daughter outshines me two to one, and I could not be any prouder than I already am, and will continue to be. Just my opinion, but I am sticking to it! Respect!

@@WobblesandBean I agree with the apology meaning nothing. My own mother has had two boyfriends that have basically used their mistreatment of me as their "in" for the relationship. The first directed attention away from his own laziness and unwillingness to do anything by making her think I'm lazy and don't want to help out (ended up being a self-fulfilling prophecy since after that she'd go off the handle about me being lazy and not helping whenever I forgot something while recovering from a mental breakdown, so I just got into this "why bother at all" mentality) and was physically and mentally abusive, but she didn't care until he turned the abuse on her. The second saw the rift the first one made between us and decided the best way to get into her good graces was to mock and ridicule any problems or issues I was struggling with as "jokes" that she'd laugh at and defend if I tried to put my foot down. Both of them are out of her life... Because of things they did to her or didn't do for her. She's never apologized, but she'll occasionally cry whenever her attempts to guilt me into things end up showing that I don't care for what she says or thinks anymore or how low my opinion of her is. People like her and the OP's mom only care so much as it impacts them and you can see it in how they react to the slip ups. The OP's mom probably only kicked the boyfriend out because she realized that her boyfriend was as abusive as her ex and, possibly, realized that it was only a matter of time before he turned that abuse on her.

@@Aasha that's what kids do. When were young we don't know our ass from our elbow. We don't really understand our parents have our best interest. We think we know it all. The job of a child is to push the boundaries and see how far they can go. As an adult/parent you don't get to behave as if you're a child. I was fortunate that my happiness was of the utmost to my mother. She stopped dating people who I wasn't comfortable with or people who didn't respect me (within reason of course). My sister eloped and walked into my wedding wearing her wedding dress and lacy headpiece. I hadn't met some of my husband's step father's relatives and they were confused. I was angry but just smiled a congratulated them. I knew she wanted to ruin my wedding day and make a scene. I chose the high road and then ignored her. I’m not actually married, but my SO and I have been together 22 years now. Every so often I pop into JC pennies or Macy’s etc. and buy a nice silver color ring between $20-$80 depending on how I’m feeling and what style is available and call it good for the next couple of years. Heck the ring I got right now I like the most and I spent $11.99 because it was on sale. I don’t understand paying thousands of dollars for a ring it just seems dumb, but I guess that’s just me and how I view things.

My original wedding and engagement rings were less than $50 total. They were gold and engagement ring had cz stones which weren't very big. My new rings are the same as far as price, my engagement ring is silver and the wedding ring is black with a Celtic knot design. I'm not one for expensive jewelry unfortunately it has to be real gold, silver or stainless, surgical steel because I get a red rash with any other metal jewelry now. That was all during segregation and civil rights in the US, but still it was SO satisfying to hear him admit he was wrong.

The ring story…. Man, I got sick. The medications made me gain weight at an astonishing rate. We talked of getting a new wedding ring. Only discussed, hadn’t actually done it yet. My looney entitled sister in law caught wind of me looking. She rushes out and trades in her already massive rock, in exchange for an even bigger rock. If I get a new dress, she gets a new dress… and on it goes. Well, I never did upgrade rings. In fact, I chose to get one of those silicone wedding bands. We farm. What the hell would I do with a big rock? Can wait to see her face when she sees my blue camo silicone band. Top that! 😂

My Dad made a ring for my Mom in his senior high school shop class. Even though he got her a decent engagement ring that was the ring she used as her wedding ring. He wanted to buy her a really nice wedding ring for their 25th anniversary but she wouldn’t hear of it. The ring he made her meant the world to her. The ONLY reason she ever took it off was when she had surgery for cancer… twice. It was stainless steel and was shaped into a heart. At around 40 or so years of them being married the band broke and it had to be fixed. She was so worried when it was off her finger and away from her. She was SO relieved to have it back.

The Moms Crappy Bf story: the disrespectful acts in this story reminds me of my own story. So I work for an after-school program where there's is there older lady that works there as well. She has a really bad habit of trying to get people to respect her by using her age as an influence but then will say she's not doing that when it's very clear that she is. So when we ate in the building she will stop kids in the hallway or leaving the classroom/entering the classroom if they don't speak to her but she didn't say a word to them. If you are having a conversation she will cut you off to say her piece when you were still speaking. She does this so often that one day when I was on a zoom call for work she did it and my response was "You couldn't have fucking waited." I said it as clear as day with no hesitation. There were still people on but no one but her heard me. She tried to get all fake huffy and sucked her teeth and scoffed. She's one of those people that will ramble on the zoom meetings about nothing so when she gets muted or we end zoom calls cause we have another meeting DIRECTLY AFTER(1 min grace period) she will try and get meetings over it. If you don't answer her no matter what the reason she will call you out on it like your a child or beneath her in some way. If you don't show remorse or try and talk back she'll give you the silent treatment then try and be nice to you cause she wants something. Guys when I say the amount of times I have reported her behavior towards not just myself but the kids. The fact that there are several group text specific to talking crap about her (managers, staff, staff and managers have them). It's unbelievable. She even kicks kids out of classrooms for having to go to the bathroom more than once in a hour because it's disrespectful to her lesson. 😒😒😒😒
