There are more than 2 million applications waiting to be processed. Despite IRCC’s various efforts to reduce the backlog, the processing times are getting longer and longer.
The following strategies may help to expedite your application:
• Prepare your application well before submission and make sure nothing is missing in the application file
• Apply to obtain your immigration files by applying for the Access to Information Privacy which gives the right to access records of government institutions including personal information held by government institutions such as IRCC. The government agency (IRCC or CBSA) to which the ATIP request is submitted would usually respond to the request in 4 weeks after.
• File a Writ of Mandamus which is a judicial remedy to compel a public authority to perform its duty under the law. In immigration law, when you experience an unreasonable delay, a writ of mandamus is sought to force IRCC to process your immigration application and render a decision.
