r/Insaneparents You thought entitled parents are bad? Ha! Insane parents kick it up a notch with some of the most bizarre, ridiculous parents on planet earth. Honestly, it should be illegal for these people to have kids! We've even got one mother who explains to her kid that she will happily murder her son if God told her to do it. Uhh... No thanks lady. I would love a link to that post to tell this lady that yes, she is the asshole and a shitty parent and wife for not getting her daughter the help she asked for or encouraging her husband to at least get an evaluation to make sure he doesn't have unresolved trauma from his abuse experience.

I mean she doesnt strike me as an "insane parent" more like an ignorant one who has never dealt with mental illnesses if her husband has any (which he might not) it is possible for him to have kept it to himself and not have shown any outward signs i know my grandfather went to vietnam and to this day he has never gone to therapy and went his ptsd (i assume he has it) gets too much for him he separates himself from everyone and deals with it alone to this day i dont actually know what he goes and does during these episodes but he has never lashed out at anyone unjustly to ny knowledge hell i didnt even know he suffered from ptsd like symptoms until my grandmother told us ten years ago

Yes the scents can be really detrimental to some people with breathing issues. That’s why so many places are scent free. Some hospitals ask their employees to try to use unscented soaps and things at home because even just a small whiff of something with a perfume in it can set someone off

"If God asked me to kill my child, I would, because I trust him." I asked my dad, a pastor, about this one and he said "That was then, not now, and God did not want Abraham to kill his son in the first place. God would not ask this of us today. If anyone says God is speaking to them, they need to see a doctor, and if any of them say they would sacrifice their children to God, their children need to be taken from them asap. God now tests us in different ways, and would not ask someone to kill their child."

I try my best not to talk down to my nieces and nephew, while still acknowledging for the sake of authority that I am in charge. It’s tough trying to get a balance. But I never, EVER talk to them like that or act like their feelings are invalid. I hated it when I was a kid-teen, I know they would hate it now. I watch the older generation do it to them and cringe with secondhand embarrassment.

I've been home schooled all my life, have three older siblings that were too, and no, You don't need to have that much practice, in fact you don't even have practice besides your own brains and you kids listening to you. And, Apparently that woman has neither of those.
@evanlayne829
@evanlayne829 3 жыл бұрын
Yep. Unless something is different about the homeschooling laws in her state, there is no reason that she would have needed training/certification to homeschool... but, the rest of her tirade just proves that she shouldn't be homeschooling her child. If she refuses to vaccinate him, as per the rules of most public schools, then she definitely needs to have someone... ANYONE... that has more sense than her, to teach her children for her, as she does not sound mentally stable enough to do it herself.
@evanlayne829
@evanlayne829 3 жыл бұрын
Also, the other "homeschool" parent obviously shouldn't be teaching either. I could read by age 4 (I was in a kids program that kind of required us to read, and memorize Bible verses at that time), but didn't have the desire to read. After my parents let me watch Star Wars at the age of eight, I blazed though every children's novel, and young adult novel we had in the house. I read the Hobbit, AND The Lord of the Rings, when I was 12, had Edger Alan Poe in my schooling (along with many other poets, as well as Shakespeare). So, yeah... she shouldn't be homeschooling if she can't even teach her kid to read 3 letter words by AT LEAST 4 years of age.
@MatrixRefugee
@MatrixRefugee 3 жыл бұрын
Another lifelong homeschooler here, and both those "homeschooling" parents are the bane of my educational existence, since they're clearly Doing It Wrong. And because they stick out like a sore thumb and reflect badly on the rest of us. The kid who's struggling to read at age 8 might have an undiagnosed learning disability. Or stress due to having a crazy parent. Or both.

I was homeschooled during my middle school years. Homeschooling is very much hit or miss, depending entirely on the parent. My parents were smart and very committed to education, although most of the time I was motivated enough to learn on my own. In our local co-op, there were plenty of parents who were not.

Actually, that mom might have said it in the wrong way (focusing on the money instead of her daughter), but she might be in the right path. Psychological therapy can, in some cases where the child does not need it, mess the child up more. The child goes through all sorts of changes, physical and mental. By being placed in therapy, the child can use therapy to prove to herself that there is something very wrong with herself mentally, and become reliant on it. "I really am messed up in the head. I have to go to therapy its so bad." If you remove the mention of money in that post, and speak it in a concerned mother's voice instead of an entitled parent, it paints a VERY different story.

The memory may have faded with time, or perhaps you're just looking at it through the lens of "I'm an angel and can do no wrong," but we were all worse than we remember to our parents when we were teens. Deal with it. Or don't, because that's definitely healthy and not self-destructive at all.

Also theirs a lot a person can leave out in those. My mom didn't believe I needed therapy when I was suicidal because it took her losing her parents to go that far and I was just being bullied something everyone gose though. While she left out that despite not reporting myself and only having mandated reporting from teachers I was recorded being bullied by haft the school with my only friend moving away. I've only been to one appointment for therapy after asking for it and then my mom called the therapist a lier. She just confirmed that I was suicidal. I still can't go to therapy until I move out from under her roof because "thier all liars who don't know god." I've kind of worked with myself to work on my issues and I'm was no longer suicidal (my sister passed and that kind of brought it back up but it's not as bad as before from what I can tell) I still have crippling anxiety attacks from seeing some of my old bullies even though most of them grew out of it. And I'm pretty sure I have an eating disorder maybe binge with a low level bulimia but I'm not 100 percent sure especially without the diagnosis. Also I feel like(while I hate to abmit it) my tramas made me a tad rasist though I'm not sure every one would call it that. I get more anxouse around black people with a certain hairstyle because it reminds me of one of the bullies I got stuck with in nearly every class who got phisical more then a fue times.

"My husband was abused and never needed therapy, so why does my daughter?" There are so many things wrong with that statement. Just because the husband never had therapy doesn't mean he's never needed it. And just because the daughter seems "normal" now doesn't mean she's okay. You don't know what's going on in her head. You don't refrain from going to see a doctor until you're at the point of death (at least you shouldn't.) You shouldn't suppress mental issues until you experience a crisis either. Her parents may not have abused her (I'm skeptical. Even they didn't mean to doesn't mean they haven't said/done something that negatively impacted her without realizing it,) she experienced bullying and abuse from her teachers. And even if some one has experienced a "perfect" life doesn't mean they wouldn't need therapy. People can have a variety of mental issues without needing a trigger such as chronic depression or anxiety disorders. For the sake of everyone involved, when someone says they need therapy, please believe them. Even if you think they don't need it, you can't make that call.

I heard it too, and I'm still on the position the woman is a busybody and is the butthole. According to her, the bill was "4 digits". The likelihood of a parent not noticing a bill in excess of 1000 dollars charged to their credit card is just preposterous, even if we're talking a millionaire. But lets assume the teenager did, still not her business to parent someone else's kid. Having worked for that particular company that rhymes with "loomingtales", they have a pretty lax return policy. Daddy could bring the boots back for a full refund and ground his daughter for life.. Still none of that woman's business, 3 out of 5 buttholes.

about the woman asking strangers in the internet about sending her daughter to therapy: God darn that sent chills down my spine. The behavior of her daughter is a huge cryout for help (especially since her daughter actually cries out for help by a therapist) and even a sign for her being abused in mental and/or physical way by someone. I won't go farther since I have a suspicion about who it is but yeah... PLEASE! Everyone reading this if your kid or any other kid acts like this (first starting to act all angry/agressive and self destructive and then suddenly gets super calm or even depressed/ often sad) then send them to a therapist (if they are your own kids) or try to carefully talk with their parents about it! I know what I am talking about because I was such a kid and I didn't get help till I got 19 and got help by a very kind boss I had that time that helped me organizing myself psycological help... I just wish that happened much much earlier because my life would have been much better...

As someone who used to go to one of those Churches who ram their opinions down your throat, won't accept ANY variation on their ONE interpretation of every single line, and also want other people (as in ALL other people in the world) to live their lives in exactly the way they dictate... well, it causes serious damage, I can promise you that! So I quit the church and now never want to go anywhere near religion ever, ever again. However... I know that not all religious people are awful just because the hundred or so that I met are... so the only thing that you need to do to prove that you don't give religion a bad name is just... leave other people alone. It's very simple. You know that plenty of people in the world do not agree with your religion... but you also know that their not believing what you do doesn't ACTUALLY hurt you. So all you have to do is leave other people alone. Worship in whatever way you want, believe whatever you want, be as conservative as you want... it's all fine. But just leave others alone and don't ram it down their throats. That will give your type of religion a good name. :)

A lady called up for new service. Gave me her name and SSN but it wasn’t coming up in the system. Turns out the lady had her phone shut off because the bill was not paid in months. The name and SSN she gave me, WAS HER ONE MONTH OLD DAUGHTER. I will never forget that as long as I live. And NO, she didn’t get service. What a piece of garbage.

Giin yeah, i was unschooled (literally teaching wasn’t brought up much except for educational books around the house plus math workbooks) but my parents at least taught me to read. honestly i wish i went to elementary school but thankfully i did really well in middle school (which i made the choice to go to) moral of the story: yeah. send your kids to school.

@@hhgnggnjngnmnnh5291 glad you turned out well. I can understand the idea of giving the children some autonomy in order to teach independence and responsibility, but what and how much they learn? That's a critical developmental time, you're wasting valuable years of their lives doing that... Homeschooling can turn out amazingly or terribly, but at least it still has a curriculum, unschooling though... I can't see that working unless the child is a prodigy, a genius, with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. It just doesn't seem like a very well thought out concept.

Giin yeah. if i ever have kids i wouldn’t homeschool them. it may give them more free time and time to grow in other ways but really they just end up with no friends for their whole childhood and not knowing a lot of basic information you learn in elementary school. i don’t hold anything against my parents but i’m glad i was lucky enough to be good in school when i did start going.

I think unschooling, like homeschooling, is just really dependent on the kids and their teacher. For those with no discipline or curiosity, a curriculum of sorts is obviously required, whether that be an official or custom one. My sister and I both have autism and while we got good grades in elementary school, we were both depressed and extremely unhappy in the environment, and I had a lot of difficulties with finer motor control such as repetitive writing and cursive. My mom switched us to homeschooling (hallelujah), then to unschooling when it became clear we learned more relevant things on our own as we’re both pretty hungry for knowledge (I learned English in my own time from the internet and reading English fiction). But yeah, all the basic skills in life should obviously be taught. Whoever unschools their kid without the intent to teach them reading, writing, basic math, etc. shouldn’t be allowed to unschool. What the actual fuck.

I had a similar thing happen to me a while ago. Also sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes, I'm really sleep deprived. Pre-Covid. So, one time my brother wanted a pair of black boots he saw online. He didn't want to go out 'cause he wasn't feeling too well, so he asked me to go get them for him. (We live together and he was actually sick.) Being the amazing sister I am, I said yes. He told me to use his card, and to leave mine next to his bed. I go to the place he found them at and managed to find them pretty fast. I grabbed them and went up to the cashier and almost payed when I got stopped. Apparently, there was a lady who was next to me at one point and saw that there was a male name on the card. She pointed at the card and screamed "YOU STOLE THAT CARD YOU BITCH!" (For a bit of context my ears are extra sensitive to loud noises, so I've got wireless headphones on. I had the left side pushed to behind my ear so that I could hear the person checking me out. Also, if it's too loud there's a chance I might start crying. No music or podcast.) She then managed to rip my headphones to the floor and continued screaming. Then she tore the card out of my hand, also throwing that on the floor and still freaking out. (This all happened super fast.) There were tears running down my face at this point. (Both 'cause she was super loud, and also I can't handle getting seriously yelled at. Abuse and such.) The cashier yelled at her to stop which made it even worse. At this point I don't remember much, it was sort of like I blacked out, but I was still standing. (I got this all from the cashier and witnesses.) Apparently this woman shoved me back, and my pocket knife fell out of my pocket. (I'm really paranoid.) She then started screaming about how I was armed, and then her husband? called the police. They got there super fast as there was a station not too far away. At this point I was snapped back to reality and recognized one of the officers. (An adoptive father of mine knew him and he knew me and knew I would do something like, pull out a knife in self defense. The police weren't told about the card. He also knew about my ears.) This officer noticed I didn't have my headphones on, picked me up bridal style and put me in the back of the cop car. He told me I wasn't in trouble, that this was to just keep me safe, and to try and calm down. Apparently the woman was arrested, and I got my headphones and pocket knife back. I also got back my brothers card, and was told it wasn't charged for the boots, which I also got. The cop made sure I was ok one final time and let me go. I retold the story to my brother and our bfs. (Who also lived with us.) We all laughed our asses off.

Asthma varies for every individual, what works and doesn't work for one individual may not be the same for another. Hence, I can't be around chlorine and react negatively to weed but I've known another asthmatic who got better after smoking weed. Please stop making it seem like asthma is the same for everybody because it leads to parents who call other asthmatics druggies for not treating it how they treated it because "they have it and know everything about it."

Asthma is different for everyone, just like allergies. Everyone has things there allergic to, and not allergic to. The same applies for smells, smokes, etc, because some people can have a asthma and not be bothered by certain smells and smokes, while for another person they can't be in the same room with certain smells and smokes. Like for me I had a mild form of asthma when I was young and I could not stand to be in the same room as cigarette smoke. Now years later I still have it but not as bad, I outgrew it, but the smoke now doesn't bother me as much as before. For allergies, I used to not be allergic to hardly anything, but now I'm allergic to wasp stings, dust, pollen in the air among a few other things. Though I don't have any food allergies either. But now I can't eat as much sweet things as when I was a kid, like fudge for example. When I was a kid I could eat like 4 to 5 pieces of fudge, but now I can hardly eat half of a small piece. Some foods give me indigestion and heartburn problems that were not there when I was younger. Everyone has a different immune system, allergies, and things they can't stand or be around.

The one with the person refusing to send her daughter to therapy angers me so much. My family and friends never even noticed anything was wrong with me until I told my dad I wanted to get therapy because I had been feeling unhappy for many years at that point and it was getting to the point that I wanted to hurt myself. I was later diagnosed with dysthemia, which is like a less severe form of depression to explain it simply. I don't want to know what would have happened if my dad said ''but you always seem happy so therapy is a waste of time''. Thank god I have amazing and loving parents.

Now they let me choose what I want to do, as long as I'm trying my best to be as normally functioning as I can. When I get into a uni I will consult with the counsellors when I need to.

That being said, it is not for everyone. The level of dedication required to teach your own children everything is ridiculous, and I truly have my amazing mom to thank for that.
