2 жыл бұрынSome Historians said that Raja Rammohan Roy ( রাজা রামমোহন রায় ) was not the pioneer of Satidaho Pratha Movement ( সতীদাহ প্রথা ). They said that he was a British Agent ( ব্রিটিশ দালাল ) So the controversy or debate ( বিতর্ক ) on Raja Rammohan Roy prevails still nowadays. I have tried to focus on this Controversial matter ( বিতর্কিত বিষয় ).
কলকাতার এশিয়াটিক সোসাইটিতে এক আলোচনা সভায় আচমকা এই প্রশ্নটি তুলে দিয়েছিলেন বিখ্যাত ঐতিহাসিক রমেশচন্দ্র মজুমদার। প্রশ্নটা ছিল: রাজা রামমোহন রায় কি সতীদাহ প্রথা উচ্ছেদের পথিকৃৎ? তারপর থেকেই পরবর্তী সময়ে ঐতিহাসিক রমেশচন্দ্র মজুমদারের সাথে আরো অনেকে দাবি করলেন যে, সতীদাহ প্রথা নিবারণ আন্দোলনে রাজা রামমোহন রায়ের কোন কৃতিত্ব নেই।
ব্যাস, এর পরেই শুরু হল বিতর্ক। রাজা রামমোহন রায় সতীদাহ প্রথা উচ্ছেদ আন্দোলনের পথিকৃৎ কিনা তা নিয়ে যে বিতর্ক শুরু হলো, আজও কিন্তু সেই বিতর্ক অব্যাহত।
ঐতিহাসিক ড: রমেশচন্দ্র মজুমদারের মত ঐতিহাসিকরা এই প্রশ্নও তুলেছেন যে, রাজা রামমোহন রায় নাকি কখনোই দেশপ্রেমিক ছিলেন না, জাতীয়তাবাদী ছিলেন না। কি ছিলেন? ছিলেন ব্রিটিশ রাজের দালাল। তিনি কখনোই ব্রিটিশ শাসনের বিরোধিতা করেননি, দেশের স্বাধীনতার কথা উচ্চারণ করেননি। বরং এক ইচ্ছে প্রকাশ করে বলেছেন যে, ভারতে ব্রিটিশ শাসন থাকার অনেক প্রয়োজনীয়তা আছে কারণ ব্রিটিশরা না থাকলে ভারতবাসীরা শিক্ষিত হয়ে উঠবে না। সুতরাং তিনি একজন ব্রিটিশ দালাল। ফলে আবারও উঠল বিতর্ক।
এইসব বিতর্কের বিশ্লেষণ করাই এই ভিডিওর উদ্দেশ্য। আমি মোটামুটি একটা চেষ্টা করেছি। কতটা কি হয়েছে, সে বিচারের ভার আপনাদের উপর রইলো।

খুব সুন্দর তথ্যসমৃদ্ধ আলোচনা৷আমরা ছোটবেলায় স্কুলে পাঠ্যবইতে যা পড়েছি তাতে রাজা রামমোহন রায় গোঁড়া হিন্দু পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করলেও পৌত্তলিকতার বিরোধী ছিলেন৷তাঁর বাবার সাথে এই নিয়ে তুমুল বাক বিতন্ডা হয়েছিল৷মূর্তিপুজো তিনি মানতেন না৷স্বাভাবিকভাবেই হিন্দুশাস্ত্রের কুঃসংস্কারগুলোর প্রতি তাঁর চরম বিদ্বেষ ছিল৷এটা মনে রাখতে হবে তখনকার দিনে হিন্দু পন্ডিতরা অত্যন্ত ক্ষমতাশালী ছিলেন৷তাঁদের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়িয়ে সতীদাহর মত কুপ্রথা চিরতরে বন্ধ করা বিরাট কৃতিত্বের ব্যাপার৷তিনি কোনোভাবেই ব্রিটিশদের দালাল ছিলেন না৷ইংরেজরা তাঁকে যথেষ্ট শ্রদ্ধা ও সম্মান করতো৷এটা তো ঠিক ভারতে শিক্ষা বিস্তারে ইংরেজদের ভূমিকা ছিল৷সেই অন্ধকার সময়ে শিক্ষার আলো একান্ত আবশ্যক ছিল৷রাজা রামমোহন রায় প্রকৃত রেনেসাঁ বা নব জাগরনের পথিকৃৎ৷রবীন্দ্রনাথ তাঁর সঠিক মূল্যায়ন করেছিলেন৷

খুবই যৌক্তিক ও তথ্যসমৃদ্ধ আলোচনা। যাঁরা কাজ করেন, সমালোচনা তাঁদের নিয়েই হয়/হবে এটাই স্বাভাবিক। সমালোচকরা যেহেতু কোনো কাজ করেন না, তাই তাঁদের নিয়ে কোনো আলোচনাও হয় না।

@@rakhimukerji7937 Since long Raja was seeking to take the case of Satidaha to British monarch but the huge passage money was an obstacle. Therefore when Badshah requested him to present his case of "pension hike"before the king of England, he gladly agreed to the Badshah's request. The Mughal emperor promised to bear his expenses of to and fro journeys. Raja sailed off to England pleaded for both the cases, i.e. emperor's pension hike and satidaha, and won the both. However the emperor forgot his benefactor and did not send the return passage money. Desperately waiting for the money in Bristol he fell sick and breathed his last.

Thanks for discussing these controversial issues. Please also note that Rammohun Roy fought for freedom of press and in that respect he did not spare the British ruling class. He also criticised the drainage of Indian resources, especially monetary funds, by the British. In this context he expected the British to settle down in India and use their wealth in improving the infrastructure of this country and not take back the wealth to England thus impoverishing his country.

Whatever he did he did for the betterment of the Indian society through modern relevant education and brought about the reforms in the country. For advancement of any society reforms in many folds are necessary. For that goal one has to fight against the establishment which could be done with the help of cutting edge powrful establishment of the British Raj. He sacrificed his life for this noble cause which is difficult for many to realize sitting comfortably in a least prejudiced society where we are living now.

আমার সম্পর্কে যা বলেছেন, মেনে নিলাম। তবে দেশ পত্রিকার গত সংখ্যার প্রাবন্ধিক শোভনলালবাবুর লেখাটি পড়তে অনুরোধ করছি। RCMকে বুঝতে সুবিধা হবে। আমি তো ভিডিওতে একজন সংকলকমাত্র। আমার কথার গুরুত্ব আর কি আছে, কিন্তু যাদের মূল্যায়ন সংকলিত করেছি, তাঁরা কেউ এলেবেলে নন। RCM বিখ্যাত ঐতিহাসিক, কিন্তু সমালোচকদের মতে, রামমোহন রায়কে নিয়ে তিনি biased ছিলেন।

In my humble efforts I tried my best to find out as to how & when Sati Daha started. In my research, I could not find, prior to medieval time, any historical evidences/materials to support that this inhuman social evils was part of Sanatana Dharma. No where in Vedas (Shruti) or Puranas (Smriti) or History (Ramayana/Mahabharata) mention Sati Daha protha. I gather, recently, a book on "Sati Daha" was published in India - I forgot the name of the author - a well known lady professor in UP.

Crucial point is as follows, even after 200 years of Raja Rammohan even today Bengali parents take pride to tell the stories of that great soul to their kids. And nobody cares who Rameshchandra Majumdar was or no one bothers what those demented historians told or lectured on.

R C Majumdar was India's greatest historian. He may have erred but one cannot deny his greatness. I am apalled to find that your channel wants to downgrade the contributions of this great historian, unless, of course, you are a communist sympathiser. Suttee was actually prevalent amongst the upper caste hindus of bengal and in Rajasthan. Very little is heard of forced suttee in Rajasthan. Suutte was never a pan Indian matter. The Macaulay education system has made us foot licking dogs of the west. Whereas, there are great researches going on in Germany on ancient Indian text, we just tease ourselves when we talk about our ancient culture. Very sad. Your research doesn't come with an open mind, dear GALPOSOLPO. I protest for denigrating one of the greatest historians of India.

Now, you may rethink because it seems that the "greatest" of yours badly failed in the test of time. Never say someone the greatest, because the dusts from under the carpet come out slowly. Even if we consider Ram Mohan's intention to be noble but one cannot deny the fact that the English education that the British thrusted upon us through the notorious official Thomas Babington Macaulay broke the backbone of indigenous education. The Indians got modern education only to serve the colonial masters at the end of the day, although some positive aspects were definitely there!!!

Dear Mr. Majumdar, Yes, it is true that our olden education system was destroyed partially by British Education system. But do you think that if they would not come and rule it would had been worst for Original Hindus by the oppression of Islam Rulers. On top of that the cast system, which would have been much more to destroy , as lacs and lacs so called lower cast were converted to Islam and a part of Christianity. At least with modern education this was partially reduced.

@@shyamalsengupta2663 That's why I mentioned in the previous comment that some benefits of modern education were definitely there but as a whole the British intended to create a clerical class to serve them. The Indians were barred from holding the higher echelons of office. The British established railways, infrastructure, civil services etc to serve their selfish interests only. The Mughal Empire was dying a slow death after Aurangzeb's demise. The Marathas and the Sikhs subdued them and wrested back most of the territories by 18th century. Last but not the least I would suggest you to read "Castes of Mind" by Nicholas Dirks. It is a fantastic book regarding the reality of caste system in India.

The higher posts in Civil services and military were reserved for the British only bcoz they didn't have faith in the integrity of the Indians. The British wanted a class of Western educated elite brown sahibs who will kowtow to their each and every command!!!

Rammohan was born in 1772 (1774 ?). Anti Act was passed in 1829. At that point of time the concept of "nation state " was not born in this part of the globe. Naturally in 1757 Bengal did not bother much about what was happening in Palasy on June that year. It not , therefore unnatural that not only the Raja but men like Dwarkanath or even Vidyasagsr did not say much against British rule. It was Dirojio (death 1830) who was cocious about the the "foreign" rule. He wrote , My fallen country ......" Though he was not born of Indian parents.

It is a very good deliberation. As far as you Sati was fully banned If any widow wants to be a sati she had to burn one of her finger without moaning or crying. The Sati custom was also referred on the Nobel Gone with the wind. Rhett Butler told of it to Scarlet O'Hara If Rammohan was not successful in his mission we would have got Meghnad Saha Satyendra nath Bose and other good scientist who helped us build modern India. @@rakhimukerji7937 yes There were French in Chandannagar, Dutch in Chinsurah, Portuguise in Goa, but they didn't have much power to abolish our superstitions, British were able to do it British were not the only nation with advanced technology, but at that time there was industrial revolution during 1740-80, in France, there was Political Crisis during French Revolution and later Napoleon, so industrial revolution took place in France in 1830-1860 So, at that time British was the most technologically developed nation
