R&N 425 - Lehigh Rambler - June 26, 2010 - NRHS Convention Excursion

14 жыл бұрынFootage from the "Lehigh Rambler" excursion, as part of the 2010 NRHS Convention in Scranton, PA. Follow Reading and Northern steamer 425 as she traverses from Duryea, PA to Jim Thorpe, PA, and then to Port Clinton, PA all in one day, the first and possibly last time an excursion will be run in one day on this length of the line. Most of the footage comes from the 2nd half of the trip, with a few shots (a couple exclusive shots as well) being hand-held and therefore a bit shaky - but worth it! Enjoy!

You're very welcome! I'd love to see this whole trip run again some day, you never know. The R&N is currently working to build a new bridge across the Lehigh River that would directly connect these two branches and would allow the train to go straight through without having to stop in Jim Thorpe and have the engine be turned on the turntable for the second half of the trip.

They have the automatic bell ringer adjusted with too much air, thus the bell makes a complete turn rather than swinging back and forth. We would do that sometimes with the steamers on the Southern RR excursions back in the 70's. It's kinda neat actually!

If you have the audio tape of CPR #972 I co-produced in the 1980's "Yesterday's Train Today" you will hear the ten wheeler slip in the same spot west of PQ. I was in the cab that day. What an experience!

It looked like she was headed up towards 45mph there near the end. I haven't seen her run that fast in a while.

Good footage. Is the bell supposed to spin completely around like that? I sure can't remember any of the steamers at Strasburg doing that...

What kind of whistle did 425 have? It's definitely not a reading 6 chime.

I looked on the comments of Steamin on the Lehigh Line” in July 2008 and it says that its wearing a Buffalo Creek and Gauley 3-Chime.
