R32 Skyline RB25DE-T Fluctuating Idle Issues

Welcome to my channel. Over the weekend at the drift event at C&O Just Drift It. I notice my engine is acting up and the rpm is fluctuating up and down. I might have an idea it could be the MAF, TPS, or IAVC. So, I have to check them all. I have to get this resolved before the next upcoming drift event at C&O Drift Night.

Solution to fix this is to look at the ECU logs. Most likely you have a vacuum leak that is causing the ECU to pull timing out trying to reach the target idle before it gives up. Most people don't realize vacuum leaks can come from spots like the throttle shaft seals. If the fuel trims aren't moving around in response it can also be an internal vacuum leak.

I found the problem and it was my fault. There's a coolant hose that is connected to the intake manifold and it was hissing air out and leaking coolant. A hose clamp wasn't clamped on when I put everything back together after installing the fuel injectors. I have to rebleed the cooling system and there were a lot of air bubbles. Luckily that after the tuning, nothing came loose, leaking coolant, or overheating. Yes, a simple hose can screw up everything.

4:20, i try my best to put a supermagnet close by or on the tool used to pry spring clips off to try stop them shooting off. dead harddrives are a good source of supermagnets. i keep one in my toolbox.

Oh boy, usally with honda, its the iac. My crv is currently giving me iac issues.

Yeah bro, it's a bandaid for right now. I'm pretty sure it's a iacv too. It's annoying. Lol.

Looks like the issue is still there in the video? Did it do this when you were having it tuned? Is there any reason that the BOV is vented and not recirculated? My old s13 ka-t would do a similar thing when it was venting to atmosphere.

The idle issue wasn't there with or without turbo/tuned. It happens during the drifting session and it comes and goes. 🤷‍♂️

@@doubleclutchin6860 oh, that is odd. Those are the more annoying problems to solve when they don't do it all the time. Good luck with it and keep enjoying the car!

@@DIYAUTOCAR The issue is on a bandaid for now and I'll keep monitoring it. Yes, it's those issue that occurs when it's wants too.

@@DIYAUTOCAR For the HKS BOV is for the universal application. HKS do offer a RB25DET BOV that comes with the recirculation kit. I just keep it vented to hear the bov/turbo.

@@doubleclutchin6860 yeah I get that. It does sound nice. On mine even with the stock BOV and having it recirculated it is still pretty loud as far as turbo sounds. It was kind of surprising actually.

You know how are the forums are lol. One said this and that and leads to nothing...😂 it hasn't happened yet but I'll keep monitoring it. If comes back then I'll check the iacv.

@@doubleclutchin6860 true true, the forums hasn’t failed me yet so knocking on wood or usually I look at the forums to see where I should start first or eliminate some possible choices haha
