Looks like the MTA subway G train runs pretty fast to arrive at any subway station on time. I hope it never arrives late when it comes to time-zone hours.

R46 G Trains, so many memories just came back to me. I remember riding these back when the G Train still terminated at Smith-9th Streets, and then it's Church Avenue extension in 2009, so many good memories, and then they got the R68s and R68As. Didn't like them at the start, thought they looked ugly (I was in elementary school at the time), but overtime my thoughts about them changed.

R32s on the G Line, never seen that before. I seen the R32 Rollsign for the G Train, but never actually seen one in service on the Crosstown Line... it would probably look cool.

I remember the changes on the G line on the subway map. First they terminated at Church Avenue, then pushed back to Smith-9 Sts, then changed back to Church Avenue! How picky is the MTA?!?!?

I sure miss those r46s. Seeing them on the g train via the culver line, takes me back to 2004. Good times. Too bad the r46s are due for retirement, and that they'll end up in the scrapyard. I think the transit museum will be the perfect home for at least one.

@@rahmel2009 the B line doesn’t run alone at all It is either with the D,C And Q lines The 5 Only runs independently Between East 180th Street and Dyre Avenue The Z runs along the J for Skip stop and Express service

I rode from Coney Island on the G after The Siren Festival one year. What I wish is that it still terminated in Forest Hills.

Strange to see that they're 8 cars. When the R46s were on the G, they were usually in 6 or 4 car consists.

Really? I've never seen a NYC Subway train with less than 8 cars. I know the Staten Island Railway uses 4 R44 cars per train. They used to use only two on weekends and late nights. I don't know if they still do that though.

Love a 75 footer. Too bad the newer models don't come in this length. Soon too be a memory but glad they are still rolling strong. These take me back to my teen years when I still lived in NY. and was always on the E train which I believe were R46 at the time.

Love the tightly tele-compressed sequence of train coming out of tunnel (starting at 2:10) and following train into station. Also the low p-o-v sequence that follows. While realizing AC propulsion is the wave (so to speak ;-) ) of the future, I'm sure going to miss the quieter departure/acceleration sounds of the R46 (and the 32s, 62s, etc). They're getting the job done without all the ear-taxing "screechies" of the new technology types. Thanks as always for your fine video documentation of the Subway system. Incidentally, where is the tunnel at 2:10? I'd love to shoot some stills there! Also, could you tell me where the bridge is at 7:15?

The tunnel is at Ditmas Av, the bridge is between Smith - 9th Sts and 4th Av - 9th St.

It's not the amount of stations served that makes it a four car train, it's the ridership. The G Train currently has the lowest ridership in the system, at around 150,000 passengers a weekday (but ridership is currently growing at a faster pace than the rest of the system). If train lengths were determined by the amount of stations served, train lengths on other train lines would be different. Take the Rockaway Park Shuttle for example, it uses 4-car trains (8-car trains during the summer) but only serves 5 stations, while the G serves 21 stations but also (normally) uses 4-car trains. If amount of stations played a role in train lengths, then Rockaway Park Shuttle Trains would be operating with a 2-car train, but it doesn't.

I hope the MTA would just upgrade them to be on par with some of the other modern trains, instead of scrapping them. Because if the r62, r62a, r68 and r68a get to stay, so can the r46.

NoobieNewbinton That would be nice, but since the cars have a lifespan of 40 years, once the cars reach that age, they must be replaced. The only reason R62, R62A, R68, and R68 cars are staying is that they are not due for retirement yet. The R32 and 42 cars from the 1960s (whose lives have been extended due to delay of new cars), and R46 cars from the 1970s are next.

That problem could have been easily solved. Reroute F trains via the (AC) line to Hoyt-Smizihorn Station and via the G to Bergen street. Boom. Done

ericsson gibson Problem NOT solved. There is no switch connecting the A and C tracks with the G tracks thus Hoyt Schmerhorn, Not is there one connecting the two G train tracks. Without them, those moves will be IMPOSSIBLE. That’s why the F went to Euclid Avenue, the G went to Coney Island, and the C had to go to Second Avenue. My man, you gotta explore outside your area more.
