This video was delayed a bit because it wouldn't render out of Adobe Premiere but we got there and now you get a video in midweek for the first time in forever. Plus I've played more Metroid Dread than I would have if this was Sunday and I love it a lot. Hopefully I'll get a chance to talk about it later this month. I mean...it'd be a terrible Metroid Month if I didn't right?

As a point of fact, Super Metroid did teach you about the Shine Spark move. But only if you stumbled into the area where the bird like alien is. Just as you're taught about wall jumping, but only if you fall down a specific pit.

Dread tells you how to do it, too. Although the instructions they give you aren't actually correct, they skipped a step (Stored charge + L-stick press + B + direction = Shinespark, the game itself omits the L-stick press from its explanation for some reason). EDIT: Replace all mentions of "press" with "neutral"
@smartboy201

I find it amazing that Super Metroid had the move, but didn't give it a name in the canon of the franchise. Metroid Fusion gave it a name, but... very few found out about it through legitimate means; most just saw the video online of someone else doing it.

@Parzival-Bo Wait… you can activate the charge with an L-stick press!?!? I always had to adjust the joystick to neutral before activating it.

@@Lh0000 I'm actually not certain, but that's how I got it to work. Maybe it isn't required and I just had better luck getting the stick to neutral by intentionally pressing it down?

5: Hyper Beam. This one is a classic, but it’s always a victory lap. You don’t get much time with it. But it’s always a good time to be had. 4: Wavebuster. Missile combos are great in the Prime games. But I’m partial to the Wavebuster, for the way it locks on and doesn’t let go. 3: Wave Beam (2D games). It makes your beam go through walls and obstacles. Great for killing stuff and solving puzzles. 2: Power Bomb. It’s big, it’s loud, it annihilates entire rooms and reveals secrets. The power bomb is iconic for a reason. 1: Screw Attack. Kills ALL THE THINGS, often in 1 hit. This is the thing the game gives you to say “ok, now kill everything and explore to your heart’s content”.

I kinda wish the Screw Attack wasn't so OP. It kinda made the ending stretch of Dread feel boring to me. Stuff that'd take like, 20 super missiles could now be killed almost instantly. Same with the Space Jump, completely invalidates any traversal that used to require the Spider Magnet and/or Grapple Beam

This might be just me, but I honestly kinda don't care much for the Power Bombs. Maybe it's just their incarnation in Zero Mission, as they're essentially an upgrade for you to do a victory lap. But I don't know, it's not as snappy as the other bombs, you can only lay one at a time, it's still kinda useless to bosses, and oddly enough, it's used to open hatches. Honestly, that makes me see it more as a key for a lock than a weapon.

Screw attack always kills the 2D games for me. All that is left is the boss and collecting everything. It's just so simple and it's more fun running, jumping, shinesparking and all other ways you move around. Screw attack takes away all that except for small passage where you need the morph ball.

A better name for the video might be 'Top 5 Upgrades' rather than Weapons Sure you can use the Speed Booster as a weapon since running into enemies can make them explode into pieces. But Spider Ball? I can't say I'm experienced when it comes to everything but. Can you kill things with just the Spider Ball? It's a cool Upgrade yes, mobility is great, but a Weapon? Hmm... Regardless, always cool to see some Metroid stuff~ Let's keep going with that :2

I would personally have both the Power Bomb and Diffusion /Ice Missiles from Fusion along with mentioning how the Space Jump is normally obtained before the Screw Attack, making infinite sawblade jumps. For the 2 Fusion items, the Ice Missiles are a good replacement for the Ice Beam especially as you can't turn it off. The Diffusion Missiles let you charge your missile for an effective screenwide freeze in a good way. For the Power Bomb, I love the Fusion version due to the vacuum effect where it draws in pickups from enemies after it explodes

1. Plasma Beam - Simply because the beam is the most powerful standard Beam weapon of Samus (excluding Spazer, Wide, and Hyper Beams) in every Metroid game (even on Metroid Prime 1). 2. Power Bomb - The reason for this one is simple, it's a miniature nuke that's released by a ball. What more can you ask for? 3. Screw Attack - Kills anything in 1 hit that gets in your way (except bosses of course) when somersaulting. 4. Hyper Beam - For obvious reasons, it's a devastating Beam weapon and one that can't be acquired through normal means in Metroid, you gotta do something special or out of the ordinary to get it, hence why it isn't higher on my list since it requires some special prerequisites to get it, while anything else in this list can be acquired by simple exploration or through boss battles. 5. Super Missile - Simply put, Missiles are explosive, and strong; but Super Missiles, are even more explosive, and stronger.

One of the most satisfying things I’ve recently done in a video game. 5 Power Bombs - If you find enough Power Bomb tanks you can just spam screen nukes. Plus in Super Metroid they let you use charge combos, the wave beam combo actually being used by the pro speedrunners against certain bosses. 4 Phase Shift - A new one on the roster. They gave samus an instant dash and it's amazing. It has a cooldown, but you can instantly dash up to 3 times, so you can instantly cross an entire boss room in half a second. 3 Ice Beam - Freeze enemies and use them as platforms. Special thanks to the ice missile which does the same things, but is missiles. 2 Screw Attack - This is insanely powerful, enemies just die to it. Metroid 1 is a good game entirely because it lets you get the screw attack way earlier than any other game. Even the unwieldy prime trilogy version of it shreds through enemies like the miniboss level ingsmashers. 1 Speed Booster - It's fun to smash through enemies at mach speed, but what's so much cooler is storing that momentum in a shinespark. Every game that's had it only made it even more convoluted, and now we're at dread where you can maintain the speed boost while sliding or wall jumping, use morph ball shinesparks, and even has an intended quick kill for a boss with it.

5. Space jump. This basically gives Samus the ability to fly. She defies physics with many of her power ups, this being one of them. To be able to infinitely flip through the air? 4. Morph ball. Morph ball not only allows Samus to shrink herself, but it also comes with other power ups. You have the bomb, the ball jump, the spider ball and even the power bomb. This one particular ability of hers allows her to use so many other overpowered abilities, it deserves to be in this list. 3. Wave beam (2d games). To be able to shoot through any obstacle in the game opens her up for damaging and overpowered attacks. She can hide behind wall and shoot through it to kill enemies without ever being touched. 2. Plasma beam (2d games). Now not only can she shoot through walls, but enemies, as well. 1. Screw attack. She gains the ability to kill just about anything by flipping into it. I say just about anything because it doesn't kill bosses. She can break through walls, flip through the air endlessly if you have the space jump, and literally wreck anyone's shit. Samus is overpowered once she gets all of these abilities, thus turning her into an army of one. She's badass and deserves that title

If it's alright, Ima give my personal Top 5 here, but it's only based on the mainline series as I've never gotten far in Other M, rage quit Metroid Prime(I'll explain if asked) and I've never beaten either of those 2 games as well as the rest of the Prime series. 5) Morph Ball. Useful for getting in tight spaces and you literally can't finish Samus's first mission without it, always having been the first powerup you get till recent events. 4) Gravity Suit. Always fun to get this suit after God knows how long dealing with sluggish movement and crippled Space Jumping in water areas. Ntm the bonus of less damage and, in some cases, no damage from lava. 3) Storm Missile. Looking back on Dread, I love this a ton. While not as quick with beating bosses as spamming the beam attacks, it's always so satisfying to hit multiple missiles at once at them. 2) Power Bomb. Is it named after the wrestling move, or vice versa? I dunno, but the name makes sense. A bomb that packs a lot of power and, well, can't find a path? Fuckin'...just use Powerbombs. Honorable Mentions: Wave Beam Plasma Beam and Wide Beam(an absolute killer combo of beams, with the Plasma one being the answer to my nightmare fuel SA-X), Space Jump(infinite jumps despite the Space Jump being absolutely horrendous in Super Metroid; I'm sorry, but the timing always seems to be off with every jump), Ice Missile(a workaround for the Metroid DNA in Samus, even if she literally got the Ice Beam back at the end of Fusion with zero explanation how it got lost and couldn't be reobtained in Dread), and Hyper Beam(a one time OP AF beam that completely obliterates Mother Brain, the Baby Metroid avenged over their murder). 1) Screw Attack. This is arguably the most OP weapon at Samus's disposal, which makes sense as to how it's almost always her final powerup. It's arguably so famous that it's the original name of Death Battle, back when they covered multiple gaming topics and had staff such as Stuttering Craig and a partnership with Angry Video Game Nerd.

Prime on the gamecube would solve the motion controls issue, or a gamecube controller if it lets you. Also, Samus losing the Ice Beam in Dread makes sense. She lost almost all of her abilities due to RB at the start, and then there was no SA-X present for her to regain it from so it became lost forever (maybe).

@@gothicbutterfly013 I'm not gonna lie, I tried Prime on the Gamecube. Iirc, you don't use the C Stick on its own to aim your arm cannon or to turn around, and in order to aim in general you have to hold still. Ntm I was playing it on a Wii U and don't have any Gamecube controller adapter. I'm sorry, I didn't like that at all. It also didn't help that afaik I have to scan literally everything in sight to get 100% and if I even accidentally miss anything I'm fucked. Feel free to correct me on some of these if I'm wrong, though. Either way, I'm holding out for a Switch port, eeeeven though it'll cost 60 bucks cause Nintendo is now a greedy sonuva bish. Edit: Just to clarify, no, I'm not on the "Dread shouldn't be 60 bucks" side. In actuality, I don't think remasters, remakes, and compilation titles should be 60 freaking dollars.

Metroid's Wave Beam, aka "inb4 wall hax!" XD I've always found Super Metroid's Speed Booster so fun to use since your speed gradually builds, whereas in Fusion and Zero Mission, it takes a couple seconds, so you don't know if it's working or not, but I hate using the Shinespark in Super Metroid because of how it stupidly drains your energy tanks faster than Prime 3's Hyper Mode. That said, it blew my mind when I learned I could Shinespark in Morph Ball mode in Zero Mission (I think Fusion did this, too?) I love how they save the Screw Attack for, if not the last, then near the last; it really lets you know just how fucking strong this upgrade is. That's something I really admire in terms of the Metroid games' core design in terms of progression: the most powerful/useful items are generally near to being the last ones you'll be given. That's not to say your basic Missile or the Morph Ball aren't useful, though, don't misunderstand me. ;)

@@acecard1413 Imho, the Screw Attack sucked in the Prime games. I get there wasn't a lot they could do with it since in a 3D environment, having an infinite Space Jump would be problematic, since you'd be able to access places you shouldn't, but did they have to bork it so much? Like, the Screw Attack had a bit of a rhythm to it, but it was never overly tricky. In Prime 2 & 3, you could only use it up to 5 consecutive times (unless wall jumping) and whilst wall-jumping I swear this damnable thing could never work right. Mario's platforming was a major inspiration for how the Metroid games did platforming, there was no excuse for the wall-jumping to be that wonky! >.

Re: #3, Sorry to be "that guy" but Shinespark actually _is_ taught to the player in Super Metroid (SNES). There is a long room in Brinstar that had blocks destroyed by Speed Booster, so that when Samus runs over them, she can break them and fall into a large L-shaped pit. In this area, a friendly Ostrich-like Dachora is seen running back and forth with its own Speed Booster capability, then crouching for a second while blinking with energy, then jumping to execute the Shinespark vertically upward. (The horizontal/diagonal Shinespark is never explicitly taught though, as far as I'm aware.) Once Samus uses the Shinespark to leave the pit, the blocks almost immediately reform as soon as you hit the ceiling so that when you fall back down, she's back on (mostly) solid ground once more. Loved the video otherwise. Thanks for making this! 💙

Hard to chose between Screw Attack or Wave Beam at 1st place but the WB was damn OP and awesome in 'Samus Returns', so much i would say that they pseudo nerfed it in 'Dread' by being a late game upgrade.

Space Jump. Opens up everything! The one where you grab ledges. Morph Ball Jump. Super Bombs. Shinespark I'm ancient and was exposed to Metroid from Metroid on NES. 1987. I loved it from the start but it was a slog until Super Metroid. I believe AM2R is the ultimate Metroid experience.

My current Raycon E25 Everyday earbuds crackle during various songs now. Unless they fixed that or the other models don't have that(very shitty business practice if the E25s have crackle issues to sell the other models, given how much they market them), I don't think I'm gonna bother with buying Raycon anytime soon. Edit: First 6 hours, now they claim 8 hours. Not sure if that means they fixed them or false advertising.

I'm afraid I had to wait to watch this one because I wasn't sure if you'd have had the chance to play Dread and add things from it to the list - that said, having finished the game, I can think of several things that ought to be on the list now. No spoilers, obviously.

The wave beam is at its best when combined with long-shot, plasma, and ice beams. They still don't hold a candle to the Hyper Beam gotten at the very end of Super Metroid. That wrecks Mother Brain HARD!

I will always cherish the Murder Beam from Super Metroid. It's so strong that you can blast through space-time and nuke Ceres Ridley with Super Missles and Power Bombs. (This is a real thing, btw. It's a glitch that let's you restart the entire game with your arsenal, sans missiles.

How do you do this new game plus?
@arios6443
@arios6443 2 жыл бұрын
@@galfinsp7216 I recommend you look up an exact guide, as the glitch is a bit complicated, but to sum it up... There's a way you can trick the game into letting you turn all 5 beam types on at the same time. Using this "Murder Beam" normally crashes the game. However, if you happen to use it in the correct room in Crateria, leave, then save your game, you'll reload back in Ceres Station with everything but your Missiles. You can then play around with Power Bombs in Ceres, collect more than max items, and basically do whatever you want.
