I absolutely love my CZ bolty in 22LR, my CZ is old school with wood stock and a Williams Receiver Peep Sight, that allows me to shoot rabbit head size groups out to 60 yards or so.

@@jimwood ah, it really annoys me that in the juristiction where I live (Norway) .22LR may be used to hunt pray "up to rabbit sized animals, but not rabbit". .22LR seems to be just perfect for the job.
@jimwood
@jimwood Жыл бұрын
@@Ruben1994OL oh really that's weird. How come you can shoot animals up to the size of a rabbit but not a rabbit? I don't understand. And yes it's a great gun for shooting I love my one.
@Ruben1994OL
@Ruben1994OL Жыл бұрын
@@jimwood The CZ457 Synthetic in 22LR is a phenomenal rifle for sure. There is a system in place where each particular animal has a minimum of joule's needed to effectively put them down humanely, which is strictly theoretical. Especially for smaller quarry they seem to have set the bar fairly high, and rabbits sit just above the joule limit that 22LR is estimated to deliver as a whole. I suppose that's where the peculiar phrasing comes from. It seems somewhat removed from reality as most modern .22LR ammo is plenty powerful enough to do the deed, but it is what it is I guess.

I have not witnessed rabbits in those sort of numbers since about 2006 in the UK. Then they seemed to disappear with Mixi and the other control diseases. )at least in Leics/Dernyshire). I moved to Aus in 2015 and once agin where I live the numbers are not massive. But we are having unprecedented rain at the moment so I hope the numbers will start to increase now that we have had 18 months of the wet weather. Plenty of feed for all the critters. Great content, makes me feel homesick.

@jimwood
@jimwood 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed I appreciate you watching 👍. The reason I use subsonic is because after alot of field testing over the years I have found these to be the most consistent and most accurate for what I do. It really is my personal preference of ammo I'm sure there are plenty of shooters who disagree and use other ammo but for me these are perfect and they have a speed of 1050fps and are 40 grain. Hope this makes sense mate. 👍

The reason I ask, in Australia its illegal to have moderators or silencers. Im am trying out the 770fps cci "quiet" rounds. Problem being, they are only effective to 30 meters. I asked you about the subs as I thought perhaps they helped with sound suppression. Have you tried the "quiet round"? My gut says you haven't given you can use a silencer. ugh ........ half your luck.

Glad to see you using .22 instead of .17hmr I have seen in another guy's video. The .22 seems to take the buggers out more humanely (quicker). The .17hmr seemed to be rather under powered, and left nearly everyone of the rabbits flopping or running around before finally passing. Destructive pest, but no need to cause undue suffering.
@jimwood
@jimwood Жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more there is nothing worse seeing an animal suffer even a pest. Though I try to make every shot count regarding a quick clean kill it doesn't always work out that way which is where a follow up shot is needed. I love using the .22lr and it certainly does the job as well as being the perfect tool for the job in hand. I know what you mean regarding the. 17hmr and to be honest I would rather have the .22 and the rounds are by far cheaper to. Thankyou for watching 👍
@mawgantalling2438
@mawgantalling2438 Жыл бұрын
i would say .17 is more humane, not sure what you've been watching because a .17 will blow the head off a rabbit, it certainly isn't underpowered
@williamallen7836
@williamallen7836 Жыл бұрын
@@mawgantalling2438 that's only if you hit them in the head. The head of a standard wild rabbit is a pretty small target. Nearly every pest control video I have seen with the shooter using .17 hmr on rabbits they never get a head shot. The animal ends up flopping around, or running in circles for a few minutes. It's like using a hand gun to hunt deer. Will it work? Yes. Is humane & quick? No. The .22lr is slower, but appears to dump it's energy into the rabbit more efficiently then the .17 hmr. On squirls and other similar smaller pests the .17 hmr does a good job. In fact it nearly rips them in half. Sometimes more bullet mass is better then a higher velocity that has a higher chance of over penatrating. It's even worse when you see someone using a .17 hmr to cull foxes.
@mawgantalling2438
@mawgantalling2438 Жыл бұрын
@@williamallen7836 i get peoples preferences due to drop, recoil etc. but I can guarantee you a 17 dumps its energy almost instantly, i would never shoot a rabbit in the body with a 22 as i eat everything i shoot and the rabbit could get back down his hole before he expires but i will happily take one in the chest with a 17, i would probably trust a 17 shot to the body more than a 22 the head. and to foxes 17 is completely capable and i would say better due to the longer ranges you can effectivley kill one with it the only two downsides to it is price and noise, other than that it blows 22 out the water
@williamallen7836
@williamallen7836 Жыл бұрын
@@mawgantalling2438 I never had an issue with 22lr taking rabbits out. Used to make spare cash to cull jack rabbits from farms in the Central Valley, CA. Those jack rabbits were twice the size of the rabbits in this video. My preferred shot placement was just behind the front shoulder. It would take out the lungs & heart for a very fast kill. Damage to the meat was minimal in the worst case. I usually kept a few for food. I would sell, and donate the rest to one of the native American tribes on one of the reservations. It helped feed many of their families. They were the ones who taught me to crack the larger bones and boil out the bone marrow while making rabbit stew. This way you get plenty of healthy fats, and don't risk protein poisoning. You can also heat the cracked bones over a fire, and just eat the marrow. It tastes better then it sounds. It's down right tasty. When I would specifically go hunting wild rabbit I would use a 14 gauge shotgun. Fish & game limited rabbit hunting on state land to shotguns. That caused a little more loss of meat, but not much. The problem I have always had with .17 hmr on anything larger then squirrels & similar, was over penetration. With very little reliable bullet expansion. If they expanded more reliably it would be effective on a wider range of game. But then you end you a lot more meat damage. Range has never been an issue with .22lr for me. I don't hunt at ww1 battle ranges lol. Part of hunting is learning to blend in, and not being so animated that you can guide a plane in for landing.

Or the entry point is that small you can't see it unless you skin it.
