Austin Doty was a dear friend of mine, of us all. We loved him, his personality and humor. His ecoboost Mustang, Chrissy, was his ticket to taking everyone to gapplebees. Free appetizers. Austin was one of the only people who treated me like a human being, the way I deserve to be treated. He accepted me for who I was, without hesitation. He was fearless, compassionate, hardcore, and funny as shit. The world is not the same without him, it feels emptier now that he’s gone.
He would race me on the highway just to say he won another race, and a giant smile would come over his face. Every time. We would shoot the shit when we had nothing going on at our meets, and he always had a lot of cool shit to share. Sadly I didn’t know him long enough to get as close as I wanted, but him and I still understood each other deep down. It was just a matter of trust that was in the way. I know he would’ve done anything for me, I would’ve done the same for him too.
Austin was riding his red Kawasaki ninja ZX6-R, 660CC Motor, on Thursday evening of June 18th, 2020, when he was lit up by Denton police. They attempted to pull him over, but Austin never pulled over for police. He ran on his bike, wide open throttle, reaching estimated speeds of over 160mph. He outran Denton police, but was picked up via APB in Justin, which is south of Denton. Austin ran once again, hoping to lose the police at one of his street racing spots. He was headed that way, followed closely by police, when he encountered a car turning across the country highway he was on. The car was turning across to get into a gas station on his side of the highway. Austin was going at least 140mph, with no relative motion between him and the car. It was like a wall in front of him.
Austin was unable to avoid the car, and his bike hit the passenger door of the car with tremendous force. Both occupants survived. He very likely tried jumping over the car, but was unsuccessful, as his chest impacted the side pillar of the car, and sent him flying. He bounced twice, and landed next to the curb, partially in the right lane. Eyewitnesses say it was only a couple seconds from when they heard the loud bike to when they saw the impact, and that the officer chasing him was yelling at him to “stay with me” at the scene. Austin did not survive his substantial injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
I’ve been to his crash site. I have a piece of his bike in my car, it is in this video. It came off the front fairing of his bike. Austin was a light to the world, with a heart of gold. He deserved so much more, than to die so young.
