I agree 100% that IndyCar needs to turn some of their unwritten policies for restarts into written rules.

I’m surprised no racing series has made a genuinely good sim for their series, “watch on Sunday, win on Monday!” Would be a great model.

One of the best mods got even better. I've been running the oval configs around Daytona since I don't own USA pt. 3 yet and it's so much fun.

That is a fantastic representation of Indy, the only thing missing was that pot of flowers on the Turn 4 wall that keep getting buffeted as the cars whizz past but keep on growing. And the 32 car grid was strangely accurate as the real thing (RIP Graham Rahal's car battery). I must say that Newgarden's win was fully deserved, despite him using the pit lane on the final lap.

I did the full (I mean nearly full, I crashed at lap 180) Indy 500 yesterday with the mod and it was a blast, the full course yellow add a lot to the immersion (just waiting for the Safety car). Only small downside is that even at 120 difficulty you can still easily win (of course you still have to finish, uhuh). At some point I was 20s ahead of 2nd place But otherwise really great job by the modding team.

Nice review of the KAOS IR-18. One note, AMS2CM is insanely easy to use at this point; I let it handle all of my AMS2 mods, including livery sets, cars, or tracks. At this point, AMS2 is no more difficult in terms of mod management than anything else out there.

Ill be interested to see what V1.5 of AMS2 physics will do for ovals

Indycar should allow Reiza to make a dedicated Indycar game. They could eventually pair it with another simcade Indycar game too. The Reiza one for serious sim racers, and another for the masses to enjoy.

I tried this in the “official Indycar sim” rfactor 2 this morning and the AI literally could not complete a single lap without crashing, driving on the grass and having huge pile ups. Might have to give these a try.

I did the indy 500 once in iRacing... 3 hours long race :) A very nice experience. And as I was a dedicated indycar racer at the time in iRacing, people helped me with car settings so I could qualify for this race.

Just have to say this, if you have never been to the Indy 500 then you are in for well idk how to explain it but let me tell you that I bet you will not be disappointed. I want to thank my awesome wife for taking me to see the Indy 500. She wouldn’t tell me where we were going and when we left Virginia and crossed over into Indianapolis that’s when I knew. Man talk about being excited I sure was. I can’t explain how big this place is. When I walked down the sidewalk with thousands and thousands and thousands and many more people and made the left off the sidewalk and you suddenly get stopped in your tracks bc it’s so crazy how massive this track is. I can keep going and going but hopefully you get my point. So if you ever get a chance to go watch it in person then don’t hesitate and go bc it will be one of those times in your life that you will never forget. I still get cold chills when I think about watching an Indy car scream past you at an average of 223 mph. Enough said. Go to the Indy 500!

Hmm, the way the A.I runs into the grass in turn 1 reminds me of PC2, is the exact same line and trail of dirt they leave . I´m sure the guys who did the mod definetly took some inspiration for the A.I lines from there. Looks very fun, gonna try it out soon.

Ams2 is releasing their modified “Indy car” on the build coming soon. I’ll cross my fingers if they get the ovals right, qual etc.

I don't know what it is but there always feels to be something between the car and me when it comes to AMS2. Like some sort of stability management going on..... This game is so close to being perfect............

Great video. I downloaded this yesterday and ran some laps at Road America. The road physics feel better to me with this version. This is definitely one of the best mods I have run for any sim out there. Your video has me motivated to go run Indy now.

This brought me back to 1990 when I played Indianapolis 500 on my Amigo 500. Doing 200 laps with just a mouse!

I grew up very close to the track, spent a lot of Mays at the ole speedway. Cars ran every day until the 4th and last day of qualifying. 50 cents for practice days for many years. I cannot even get interested in it anymore, it has changed too much and not for the better. It is all about the show. Spec racing basically and that is not what Indy was about. I could go on and on with all the negatives but I digress. Love watching you drive these cars. Would be cool to have an accurate roadster era and the rear engine coming in the 60's. Anyway thanks for what you do here !

Was having alot of fun racing some Group C around old Hockenheim, if you're ever down, its a great combo, Chevy has just such a lovely V8 note. But the Sauber is just SCARY on corner exit when the boost comes in.

Great video! I setup a similar race at Indy, and the AI all crashed on the cool down lap lol. It's a great update to an already great new mod.

I agree, everything up to the single lap finish is pretty much without critique. I just wish it was a 2 lap final dash (although I credit the starter for throwing the green super earlier, that was a smart move which gave us like 1.2 laps of racing). I also think that you are spot on about having a clearer policy for restarts, especially the end. I was wondering if perhaps Indycar should not count laps once the red flag is thrown (so going back to the pit under red). This could save a lap here or there and give a few more laps to play with at the end... although it could end up just leading to a couple more wrecks and a couple more red flags... but perhaps combine it with a limit of only 2 red flags that don't count the laps after it being thrown. Just my thoughts.

In my opinion, if Motorsport Games goes down (which we hop so), Indycar should contact Reiza Studios to make the Indycar game, with the ladder series and classic Indy Car series supplementing the main championship. Oh, and they should also end the captive license nonsense so we can have the iRacing Indy 500 again

Hey , great vid I agree awesome mod. I can’t get the 2.0 version to load any Indycar oval or road to load up and play without crashing. I do understand the Install process. I tried everything still won’t play. You put out the best vids. Can you please walk everyone like me which from what I see a lot of people struggling with install. I had the first version running no problem. A vid from you which we all can see you having working perfectly would help out a great deal of people. A step by step vid. If you follow other step by step vids about AMS2 installs just don’t help. I tried everything with no luck . Please help us out. Big fan of your vids ! Thanks much !

I’m forever thankful for this mod. It’s gorgeous but, I think they should have added windshield effects like the one in rfactor2. You can make out that there’s a windshield which makes the driver feel more confined hence more immersed. Also I would like to point out that the steering wheel is way too close to the firewall. I’d imagine an accidental flip of a switch would be no good. If any of you own rfactor2 try the dallara. See what I mean. FTR I’m not in any way bashing on the free mod given to us for ams2. I love it with every inch of my heart. ❤

The custom AI file for this Indycar mod makes the racing so much better!

I've had time to drive the road and oval versions and can give them both a solid C+ rating. They look pretty but they drive like AC car mods which only use the example template with the difficulty set on kids-mode. We can't see the "rails" under the cars, but it they are clearly on them.

This has been some of the best racing I've ever done. Now if I could only prevent the AI from rubbing my wheels and sending me into the wall. Great content.

I'd love to see a caution free Indy 500. Wonder if it will ever happen.

Is there a place...maybe a race department forum.....where people can share setups for this car? AMS2's normal setup sharing via time trial doesn't work with mods. It would be very nice to have a forum where people can share their TT results and setups for mod cars.

downloaded this this morning. I jumped into it and went to Indy but I can't seem to wrap my head around the handling. Is there a setup baseline you would recommend?

They absolutely came up with it on the fly. And thank goodness they did. The Indy 500 is a 200 lap certain race. Taking nascars GWC gimmick away and running longer races would be 'too far' imo. But running the 500th mile of the indy 500 should always be attempted to be done, if absolutely possible, in green conditions. To keep begging indycar to finish races under yellow is the same to me as to beg for no racing at all. The safety of the cars didn't change between laps 197 and lap 200, so that's a poor argument. They didn't have enough time to warm up tires - except there is no tire warmers in Indycar and they make green flag pitstops exiting into traffic on the backstretch, so that excuse is out, too. 'Rules' would be nice, but the Race director should have autonomy in running a race for what's best for the people attending and the drivers in it and not be tied to a book for every call when there's a situation that comes up that's not in specific writing. F1 didn't think so. Indycar, thankfully, disagrees.

I just love this new generation of "sim racers" who love complaining about an era where cars were difficult to drive, and couldn't stop moaning about them, and love easier to drive cars.

Speaking of Indycar, any plans for more of the 90 season?

It has been quite tricky figuring out the difficulty needed to have a nice race and not be swarmed.

Every year the racing is a little different at Indy as a result of the small tweaks to the series. This year it was single file on the turns, not hard to follow but as a result weak slipstreaming, the race was pretty good until the chaos begun. Cars looked stable, the few crashes early on looked to be the result of inexperience, drivers not backing off after getting overtaken resulting in getting caught by the turbulence, washing into the barriers, which by the way did a really good job. The crashes by the end were pure stubbornness and disregard for safety, also a consequence of the very low attrition rate, that many cars down the field late on, are a recipe for contact. The one lap dash was a shame, everyone at the track knew what was going to happen, even Hinchcliff immediately started concocting the only way for Ericsson to defend his lead, which was to do what Pato had done earlier. Fine with Newgarden winning even if the run to the line was absolutely preposterous and the ending overall cheap.

Just a question any tips to not spin out because every time I’ll race in the Indy car the 500 I’m always like sliding for kinda no reason

Man , this is just incredible! On this mod , are these cars set with a specific gear ratio or can they be adjusted slightly? I threw AMS 2 in the corner last year. Without Mod support , I lost interest. GSC and AMS one gave me probably 3000 hours of fun , because they allowed modding. I guess I better reinstall this thing.

Can you provide a link to the track and oval version that does not lead to overtake_GG. They charge for access to free content as they have taken over racdepartment.

Does anyone know what the fields are for mapping the weightjackers and push to pass (and anything else Indycar related) in AMS2? I'm assuming DRS would be one of them that's repurposed. I've also found I need the AI on 90% to slow the lap times somewhere near 40sec. Otherwise they are in the region of 37sec.

This looks like an awesome mod. Would love to see how a longer race with cautions would play out and what the AI would do. Really starved for Indycar sim racing content at the moment. I think everybody is. Thanks for nothing Motorsport Games.
