Checking out Rachael - a ring modulation module by Black Corporation. Rachael takes its roots from the Yamaha CS-80. The CS-80 ring modulator is quite unique in sound and character. All for the better they've recreated this for us to use in our modular setup!

you seem like one of the few right persons to ask this. I (as many other i suspect) make music with multiple devices, PC (daw), MPC, Ipad and even sometime my iphone as sound module. And i have one master midi keyboard. As of now its a nightmare having to connect and disconnect between the MPC and PC every time. Is there any sort of "hub" or system that can take in multiple midi usb cables and distribute them to different places/targets? Like , now i want to use my keyboard with my pc, but after i want to trigger my mpc, or Ipad. Hope it makes sense. Thanks for any guidance Cheers

Hi @@eddiexx , there's a few MIDI routers (hardware) out there. MRCC by Conductive Labs is the one I have and is quite extensive sounds like what you need.

A very clear and comprehensive video Ranz. I particularly love the sound of those lovely pitch sweeps in reverb..(almost.'like tears in the rain' perhaps😉)...but I also quite liked the other tones you showed us too. And an excellent demonstration of how very fine micro adjustments are where the sweep spots of this effect can be found (if one slows down and invokes ones inner zen state, maybe you will hear the Ring Mod pixies trying to get out electronics). Looks like a very nice module. I will get one, one day....

Anthing with ADSR CV control is god tier to me. Do you own the BARP2500 1005 Mod Amp, I would love to see a deep dive into that too! I like this, but my 1st CV control-able ADSR will be the new Disting thing. Thanks for this though Ranz, more demos pls! 👍❤🙂

could you not plug the osc output to the ref input to use different waveforms to mod with?

What is the difference between ring modulation and FM? For me they sounds the same.

Hey thanks for the great question! Ring mod is an effect where an audio signal is modulated by a reference signal and then outputs their sum and difference while subtracting the original frequencies. FM is purely modulating the original audio signal. They definitely can sound similar - but then they also can sound vastly different as well!

@@ranzee As you said, audio rate Ring Modulation creates a single set of sum & difference signals rejecting the original Carrier and Modulator. FM/PM creates an integer series of multiple sum & difference signals dependent on the Mod Index; the original Carrier signal remains, varying in amplitude with Mod Index; When complex waves like Saws and Squares are used in Ring Modulation, it can sound very similar to 2-Op Sine wave FM/PM, but without the deep dynamic control of harmonic intensities. Great video and overview, love my Rachael & just used her on my last HWJ 😁

@@DrSynthgreat response. I re-read his question and didn't consider that he may have meant FM / PM synthesis. I was thinking he meant FM modulation on an oscillator. So thanks for the explanation.
