HAPPY HALLOWEEEEN! Here is the project that I've been wanting to tackle for, oh I don't know, 20ish years?
I never thought I had enough skill to take this on, but I'm so glad I finally just DID IT. This week was full of hand-sewing, decision-changing, and candy-eatin', but finally I finished it, so I hope you guys like it!!
I love you all!!

you trying to hand draw on the stripes is just like me hand embroidering an entire cloak... day thirty-something and i've gotten very good at not stabbing myself with a needle but i also have the barest grip on my sanity ever. Edit: rewatched this video cus i watched sleepy hollow again. yes i did finish the cloak! it's a cosplay of the creature you play as from the video game Journey (highly reccomend). all the gold symbols and stripes I embroidered by hand as I didnt have access to an embroidery machine (I have since gottem one, speeds the proccess up alot even if its a littl finniky at times). I wear it as a coat in winter as well because i put too much work into it to simply wear at the occasional convention. it took me just over a year to complete, never underestimate how long stitching by hand takes, expeciallydecorative ones.

I love period clothes, I've been sewing on and off for over fifty years, I still have many of my patterns that I purchased in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I discovered the trend for vintage patterns and have purchased some from the 20s, 30, and fifties, and I'm having so much fun with them. Now i'm also sewing children's clothing so I can use up some of the excess fabric I've accumulated over the years and donate to charities. Looking forward to following you.

Sadly, Joann basically killed our local fabric stores. There's one, but it's specializes in quilting cotton and other quilt stuff pretty much exclusively. So if you want actual garment fabric it's Joann...or the internet. *sigh* Even the super-expensive fahncee fabric boutique where all the six-figure hipster moms bought $40/yard specialty fabrics to make those excruciatingly precocious European-style kid's outfits with gave up the ghost a few years back. So now they've got to buy material for their 'A-line welted-pocket dress with matching beret and cardigan sweater' playsuits online like the rest of us peasants.

@@lizw5587 I wish I had that kind of luck. I have sensory issues, so the feel of the fabric has to be just so or it will be an eternal source of torment (or, more likely, just go into a storage bin never to be used). I'm so glad you went for the striped fabric. I thought, "How is she not going to die from sharpie fumes?!" The smell of sharpies for some reason makes me ill, so I am very happy you found a way to just use the fabric you first intended. The gown came out so fun and fanciful, I love it. I am a retired clothing designer, and I can tell you I have never accomplished a gown like that in five days, even when I was working for a theater making costumes. Bravo, bravo, if I had found someone with your abilities, back in those days, I would have hired you on the spot.
