HAPPY AUTUMN!! (officially, but we all know Autumn lives in our spoopy hearts) I wanted to kick off the season with a sorta "cousin" of my Sally Dress, so I figured an Oogie dress would fit the bill! This is honestly one of my most favorite projects that I've made in a while, and NOT JUST BECAUSE I'm addicted to weathering..... okay that's a big part of it.
I love you guys and I hope you like it!

Rachel: "For the bodice, I'm going to cut and sew the lining and burlap together to save time." Me: Welcome to flatlining! I was so proud and happy when I saw you do that. It's a wonderful technique for handling fabrics that shift around a lot (like chiffon and burlap). You can use it for the skirt too, if someone wants to attempt it without the baggy look.

A tip for strapless: When one constructs strapless pieces from scratch one takes out width in the top edge by slimming in the top inch of the seams, to make it go ever so slightly in on the top edge. Using a pattern as you are doing here it will most likely not use this in the construction as it can look a little strange to someone without this knowledge. The easiest way and what I imagine will be most useful for your kind of process is to just pinch in the top of each side seam, and if needed on the other seams too. Hope this is useful information to you (or anyone else reading)!

You might consider some boning as well, to keep it a little rigid on your body, so you won’t get the droop.
@ThePixiixiq
@ThePixiixiq 3 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea! For the quick and easy, cheapest and for not too much stiffness and wear you can get fabric covered rigiline boning. Personally I struggle calling it boning but for a quick project like this it's pretty darn handy to get a *bit* of support.

Aaaaaah this looks amazing!! For the 'frumpiness' of the bodice, might I suggest adding boning to it? Specifically rigilene boning is really easy, you can just sew it into the seams by machine and it will help a LOT with keeping the bodice up and smooth.
@beautynova28
@beautynova28 3 жыл бұрын
Would highly recommend to sew the skirt and bodice lining pieces and the burlap pieces as units separately! You could sew the lining and the burlap entirely separately (like you were making two dresses) but for stability I recommend the following: sew skirt burlap and embroider, then sew skirt lining (same for top). Sew skirt lining and skirt burlap together at the waist. Then sew bodice lining and bodice burlap together at the top of the bodice, and sew just the bodice burlap to the skirt pieces. The lining of the bodice can then get neatly folded over the skirt seam allowance and sewn down to hide it. This way you won’t get itchy seams. I think it would still work with how you inserted the bugs too... you did a such great job! It looks gorgeous :)

I agree that some boning would give more structure, the prom dress Marty’s Mom wore in the movie had boning, guaranteed. Especially for a strapless dress it helps a lot. It is also a Giant Pain in the Buttocks. I worked with boning maybe twice in my life and I hated it. That said, the dress turned out AMAZING and she can always add boning later if she wants ❤️

Adding boning channels in the bodice (between the lining and burlap, some how, lol) that are closed at the bottom but open at the top would allow you to slide (removable) thin glow sticks in them.
