Wear normal socks inside your wetsuit boot! They do get soggy but enables the boot to slide off easily & doesn't pull at your skin (+ keeps your feet clean when taking the boots off) :)

Genius, I'm definitely trying the shoehorn trick next time! With two fake hips I'm not as agile as I used to be and find the whole squinching myself up to remove my boots very tricky :-))

I invested in 5mm boots for myself and my sister without really thinking about how they would come off. We wore them today (18.03.23) and the dramatics and hysterics trying to get them off was equal parts hilarious and frustrating. We discussed it with much gusto on the way home and just knew YOU would have a fix or two. Shoehorn was our agreed solution so I’m pleased to see it does work and your demonstration. We both thank you so much! ⭐️

When able, I use a garden hose with a narrow nozzle that fits down into the boot. It fills the boot with water and pushed my foot out. Being non-compressible, I find it works better than air.

Good idea. I prefer to just hook them off in the water at the end of the swim 😀

Thanks for the tips. Two days ago i put on my Atan Hot Wave 6.5mm boots (my only boots yet, warm and comfy but totally overkill for 11 degrees water temperature). Very easy to get my dry naked foot in. After i powered out myself on a SUP-board tour and carrying the 14.5 kg Norden Hardboard uphill to my car there was not much power left in my body and arms. Channelling the tiny rest of my power and a loud ARRRRRRRR i was able to force my left foot out of the wet boot. It took me about 15 minutes to get out of the right boot. I think it will be much easier to stretch and pull off >3mm neoprene boots 😄

Hi Hui, it may help to pour a bit of water inside the bood to release it from your skin, or to use a shoe horn. Here's a video I made about how to remove wetsuit boots or socks kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7qRl6p9t9bRdoU.html

This is so useful thank you. I went for a swim today and it took me absolutely ages to get my new swim socks off.... At one point I thought I might have to drive home in them! I'm looking forward to trying out these methods. Glad you had a lovely swim. I had a wonderful time with lots of cootes and a few swans. Got there early and it was lovely and quiet in the lake. There is something special about swimming in the winter.

I use disposable plastic pedicure booties and gloves underneath . They make a huge difference to removing your boots and gloves when your hands are cold and stiff. I make them last till full of holes ! Ordered a stack of them online very cheaply and share with friends ! Before I needed help but now I can just slip everything off without effort !

Hi Rachel, great video, as always. The techniques you’ve shown here look really awesome, but I gotta say that I was completely distracted by the scenery... especially that bridge type structure in the background. Pretty amazing architecture and brick work!! I manage to get my neoprene booties and socks off with the thumb technique. I always use your glove removal technique... that one is a total winner too.

Thank you, I've very weak hands from arthritis and always feel like my thumbs will break when I take my boots off - especially when my handsc are cold and sometimes I get into a wee panic when it's cold. . . I often drive home in them. . . I am currently looking for zip-off ones now in the hope of surviving the winter months in a more peaceful way x

One tip I picked up on an Instagram post was to put on recycle green food bags under the sock. Because they are made of starch they slip easily when wet and make boots much easier to get off. I can get very cross with neoprene, can’t wear a wetsuit without feeling claustrophobic so if the bags work for me they will work for anyone.
@EverydayAthleteRach
@EverydayAthleteRach 2 жыл бұрын
It’s great that you’ve found a solution Jan. Might be worth going for a wetsuit fitting if you were wanting to use one as they will have seen it all and have some suggestions 🏊‍♀️😀

Fantastic....will try the shoehorn method. My thumbs are so weak after being in the cold water I can only just unclip my tow float let alone get my boots off. I reverted to zipped boots but they are not as warm. One method that did work for a while was putting Glide anti-chafing on my feet

All of those methods are nifty and good to be aware of. They made it look like you were doing post swim stretching lol. Do you ever do this before/after swim? Does that hose for method No2 tastes a bit rubbery like a snorkel mask? mmmmmmm :D Is it ticklish on the feet or ankles when you blow? And what a fantastic bridge and river :)

I didn’t notice a horrible aftertaste or tickling to be honest. The location was lovely as is close to a route I drive a number of times a year so good for breaking up the journey. I’m not back into wetsuit boots yet, but it won’t be many weeks away. 🏊‍♀️😀

Ah, thanks for your lovely words. I’m absolutely certain there are some, but it’s not an area I’m familiar with. If I’m travelling to a particular area for work I ask on the Outdoor Swimming Society Facebook group if there are any local groups. People are really forthcoming on there. In fact, today I swam at a recommended spot in Buckinghamshire and it was beautiful and peaceful. I’d be up for a trip to Kent for a swim though...
