"A political science professor says a racist heckler that interrupted a campaign rally for NDP leadership hopeful Jagmeet Singh is an example of the discrimination that deters minorities from politics.
A video posted on KZfaq of Singh’s campaign event in Brampton, Ont., earlier this week shows a woman interrupting his speech and accusing him of supporting Shariah law and the Muslim Brotherhood.
Singh, who is Sikh, responds to the woman saying he supports and loves her, and that he won’t be intimidated by hate.
“Everyone in this room loves you, we all support you, we believe in your rights,” he said as she continued yelling at him in front of a crowd of supporters.”*

I'm so thankful that he did not say, "I'm not Muslim" in order to tell her he wasn't bad. Instead he let her continue to believe he is Muslim and he spoke love and peace. It hurts when people get so defensive and try to distance themselves from being assumed Muslim because we are "so bad". I'm so thankful I got to see this!! ❤️

It’s a freedom movement for the sikhs of punjab who were raped and genocided by the Indian government. Majority of Punjabi’s supported it until it was shut down with violence and force and india illegally imprisoned people for even mentioning it. One terrorist attack. Just one. A lot of Sikhs don’t agree with it including me. The Indian government is the biggest terrorist organization. Don’t blame/call sikhs who fought for and saved hinduism as a religion from Mughals but got backstabbed in our time of need. Sikhs need khalistan and you wouldn’t know anything about it. There is extremism but it pales in comparison to the need of Khalistan for sikh sovereignty.

Not every other politician in the world, not the other Canadian NDP and Green candidates. Jagmeet Singh is the least progressive and least substantial compared to the other NDP leadership candidates. He is full of platitudes and selfies. His skin colour and religion are irrelevant to me. Guy Caron is by far the most progressive NDP candidate with the most policy substance especially on the things which impact us and our issues the most - *Proportional Representation, Universal Basic Income, and the environment.* He's genuine, compassionate, an actual economist, and he will win us back Quebec which is most crucial for the NDP right now. Niki Ashton will be second on my ballot, Charlie Angus will be third, and I will leave the party if Jagmeet Singh is chosen. Singh is the corporate media and establishment's favourite. He even said that pipelines are "not a yes or no answer". His policies would be leagues better than Trudeau's, but that isn't saying much and it doesn't come close to what is possible for our future. I don't need to see them platitude at each other all election season. And yes, a large portion of Quebec voters (who we need) have very serious issues with religious headwear on a candidate due to generations of religious abuse. Canadians and especially Quebec takes separation of religion and state very seriously.

I have a Sikh friend who was born in Glasgow. When the cricket World Cup was on I asked him if he was watching it to which he said he wasn’t. A very critically important thing you missed: He is Sikh, not Muslim. However, he did NOT respond to the racism and hatred by saying "i am not Muslim, i am Sikh" because he knew that it wouldn't help against the hatred being thrown towards Muslims. His argument was "hatred is not acceptable."

I felt as though I was witnessing something more than racism. That woman appeared to have ordered the tall espresso to wash down her meds. No well-balanced mind gets in front of the main attraction and goes into rant mode while everyone around her -including the headliner- is being polite and respectful. She's high.

+Cam P. , she clearly demonstrated she did not recognize he was something other than Muslim. But that doesn't matter- -Jagmeet was compassionate toward her by not condemning her for being irrational. Her disturbed behavior is could be a medical (e.g. mental) problem.
