Great tips and info that other coaches never mention in their videos. The angle of the racket tip is money!. Now I know why i hit into the net. I also dont always get too much clearance but manage to gain a lot of spin. Probably due to my strength and racket speed. Cant wait to apply you angle and edge tips!

Thanks Ben. When I am at back of court and hitting a two hander I naturally drop racquet below hand, since I have more time and space to hit into, but when I play mini tennis or just hit two hander close to backboard I tighten up the wrist trying to control the shot. This wrist tightening has been a problem on my forehand as well. Also need to make sure I have my racquet back before ball bounces on my side, and head stays locked in at contact. Like your content. 👍

Your video is superb! Truly excellent 🥳. To get a low to high swing path I tilt my upper body back during the middle to end motion. Is this a no no?
@teachyourselftennis
@teachyourselftennis Жыл бұрын
Good question. Think of your shoulders as where the ball trajectory will be. So, if you tilt back your shoulders point up in the ball will go more up and possibly too high. Some as thinking about a bow and arrow. The higher you aim with a bow and arrow the more your shoulders tilt up

@@teachyourselftennis Thank you Ben! The flight of my ball can go up quite high so it would be better to take that out of the equation!

@@dawng7270 yes keep those shoulders square! Meaning parallel to the baseline when hitting.

Great video but what about when the ball is shoulder height and above. My wrist is above at waist and below but thats hard when you get shoulder height with eastern grips.
@teachyourselftennis
@teachyourselftennis Жыл бұрын
Great question! Eastern grips on general are hard to use for high balls as the strings are not facing down at all during the swing path so it’s hard to hit the top of the ball. That’s why you see western grips for clay courters as the ball bounces higher on clay. So not much help here sorry to say!

Do you squeeze at contact in order to bring the racket up or is it loose the entire time?
@teachyourselftennis
@teachyourselftennis Жыл бұрын
Great question. It’s a squeeze to start the momentum of the racquet then it gets looser. Similar to throwing a ball. Just not that loose :)

Good question. Start with some slo motion video of you hitting and see where you’re at before and at contact point. That’s a good start!
@adrianshaw7293
@adrianshaw7293 11 ай бұрын
Wrong. So wrong! You should NOT try to hit the ball with the top edge of your racket leading. Look at the image included in this video of Djokovic making contact with the ball - his racket head is almost vertical (at contact). Topspin is imparted simply by going through the contact point from low to high (with a vertical racket face), which means you are hitting the ball off-centre.
@teachyourselftennis
@teachyourselftennis 11 ай бұрын
Yes but he starts (before the swing begins) his racquet with the strings down. And if you follow that start the strings will eventually be vertical with top spin (like djokovic as you mentioned) if you keep the wrist from changing position. That’s what I’m saying. Sorry if I wasn’t clear and thanks for commenting!
