Rad was first released on March 28th, 1986 and was directed by Hal Needham. The movie stars Bill Allen, Lori Loughlin, Talia Shire and Ray Walston.

Fahrrad is the correctl term, but Rad (literally "wheel") is probably used equally often, it's just shorter and people are lazy. :P

"Rad" means wheel in german. "Fahrrad"(directly translated drive wheel) means bicycle but some people use rad as shortcut.

Lol yeah it's the BMX community. They consider it the only reasonable bmx movie (which is bloody sad), so they protect it like nothing. No one else has bothered to watch this movie and rate it, so it ends up wildly scewed.

Fun fact: This is the movie with the biggest discrepancy on rotten tomatoes. 5 out of 5 reviews butchered it, resulting in an official 0% on RT. Meanwhile, over 7000 people from the audience rated this movie and it got a 91% audience rating. There is NO other movie in the database with such a gap between those two ratings.

@don't... it is a cult classic. It directly influenced the extreme sports you see today. Without RAD, you wouldn't have the x-games. It was that influential to kids around the time it came out. It didn't do well in the theaters, but it did gangbusters on home video. It is so popular, they even had a reunion in 2011. Doug was just slightly too young to see its influence.

It's like Mr. Rodgers riding a Harley, or PeeWee Herman Riding a SuperMoto. It just doesn't fit their attitude. They should have put the old man on a more"Old Person" style bike.

Actually, I like to see an episode of Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood where Mr. Rodgers opens up the show driving up on his Harley. And Pee Wee Herman riding a Supermoto seems enough crazy to fit into the show.
