You Sir were correct the Gatling Gun was first used in the Civil war as that pre-dated The Spanish- American war . One of the best-known early rapid-fire firearms, the Gatling gun saw occasional use by the Union forces during the American Civil War, which was the first time it was employed in combat. "It was later used in numerous military conflicts, including the Boshin War, the Anglo-Zulu War and the assault on San Juan Hill during the Spanish-American War.[4] It was also used by the Pennsylvania militia in episodes of the Great Railroad Strike of 1877, specifically in Pittsburgh. Gatling guns were even mounted aboard ships.[5]" From Wikepedia as the Spanish American War was fought between Apr 21, 1898 - Dec 10, 1898 more than 30 years after The American Civil war.

I was confused about this too, the Spanish-American War was decades after the Civil War (and the Gattling Gun was indeed first used in the Civil War).

The Brotherhood of Steel were already a reference to A Canticle for Leibowitz, so the inclusion of an even more direct reference is pretty fun. Quite a series long obsession they’ve had with this idea. Along with the Brotherhood being in basically ever game, there’s the Ciphers that were supposed to be in Van Buren but got mentioned in Dead Money, and then there’s the Abbey in Point Lookout, believed to be in Upstate New York, or at least west of the Commonwealth. Never knew about this cut Fallout 2 location, cool stuff.
@JRYYD2 жыл бұрын
What do you think could happen if the BoS, FotA & the Abbey joined together into one faction, what would the differences in views & beliefs create?
@Rad_King2 жыл бұрын
I can see the inspiration with the BoS. Looks like they were wanting an even closer representation since the BoS actually understand most or at least some of the knowledge that they seek and store.

I wonder if Frank Horigans fear-inducing presense could ever be replicated in todays Fallout. You can make a compelling character, and make them a difficult boss, but the way that he was set up can, in my opinion, only be achieved in the turn based and slower combat/gameplay.
@Dogmelter422 жыл бұрын
Closest I think they got was Legate Lanius, but he just doesn't have as much of a presence as Frank. I kinda get it, because they don't want him getting killed early, but even then.
@jonnyhill742 жыл бұрын
I don't think its really possible with the current direction of Fallout. all the BBEGs are just bullet sponges. it would require a game to either be cinematic heavy, or based around combat encounter mechanics that show how how difficult someone is to defeat without just dumping all your ammo into them.

What affects on the Post war world do you think the vaults ability to communicate with each over would do for the wasteland (either they found the Enclave communication tech and used that or the tech was always there but they where never informed about it), would they unity into some super NCR with each vault acting as a mini sate all over the wasteland or something else?
@Rad_King2 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends. If the only communication was between overseers I don’t see much change. If the dwellers could communicate with each other then that is where we would see some changes. I don’t know if they could have the manpower or organization to become anything as powerful as the NCR though.
@JRYYD2 жыл бұрын
So what if it was contained within a local area and not cross Commonwealth, Most event's in the wasteland good or bad can be linked to the vaults, like what if vaults 13 & 15 where able to communicate and learn of the master's plan or if V 21 & 34 ideas of weapons and luck merged & Vault 81 learnt of Vault 111 61 years before F04 event's

Hey Rad King, Predator761 is wrong about the Gatling gun! It was indeed used in the American Civil War. It was designed in 1861 by Richard J. Gatling and patented on November 4th 1862. It was used during the siege of Petersburg Virginia (1864-1865) it was used by forces under the command of General Benjamin F. Butler.

_"I'd probably go with the latter to avoid right-wing complaints."_ If only he could have foreseen the state of the Fallout community now lol, with all the GamerGate types and _very_ enthusiastic Legion and Enclave apologists (if you know what I mean) skulking about. It used to be about not offending middle-American housewives, crypto-fascists were probably barely on their radar. How much the field has changed in a couple decades, both for the video game industry and for society as a whole
@etinarcadiaego74242 жыл бұрын
The Legion apologists really freak me out. The Legion is openly fascist as fascism was actually invented by the Roman Empire.
@EighmyLupin2 жыл бұрын
I mean they're not any worse than the "communism is actually really great" crowd that ignores communism has killed far more than nazi's ever did. I mean at least one group only worships fictional people and groups and whereas the other worships real-life terrorists and dictators. and no that is NOT where fascism originated.
@chompythebeast2 жыл бұрын
@@EighmyLupin You're comparing real-life communists to people who just like the Legion or Enclave, but aren't real-life fascists? Why? That's not what I was talking about. Or are you just being coy, or trying to pull some sort of whataboutist "no u", or something? Kinda suspicious when decrying fascism leads one to inject a decrying of communism too, as if only commies are anti-fascists or something. We shouldn't feel attacked or defensive in conversations about fascists or anti-fascism―unless perhaps we feel personally targeted, I guess. Anyway, I can't figure out why whipping out death counts and playing a game of "Whose Is Smaller?" is so popular as a go-to anti-communist argument. You don't have to be any sort of socialist to see how gruesome, sophomoric, and ahistorical that perspective typically is. Besides, we shouldn't be apologizing for state murder from _any_ political system in _any_ quantity, anyway
@chompythebeast2 жыл бұрын
@@etinarcadiaego7424 Well, fascism was based upon Benito Mussolini's _idea_ of the Roman Empire, named after the _fasces_ which marched at the front of every legion and which symbolized the power of _imperium,_ ie the legal power over life and death. In reality, while there are certainly many aspects of the Roman Empire that we might reasonably describe as fascistic, fascism as we now know it came about in the early 20th century. But yeah, fascists aren't cool. And it's not like everyone who likes to play Legion playthroughs is a fascist for that reason by any means, of course―what I'm referring to are the people who are genuine irl fascists who love to spread fascist bullshit in a video game community filled with disaffected young males, the primary targets of these sorts of boneheads
