This might seem counter intuitive, but possibly draining the system of all liquid and using compressed gas instead? If the cooling calculations are based on flow rate at all, compressed gases can move at several thousand litres per second (when at extremely high pressures).

I think there is a bug with radiators. I have nearly 2000 hours in the game and have made hundreds of planes,boats, cars, trucks, oil rigs and all sorts of stuff. I made a tracked truck kinda thing for the arctic and it has one medium engine. It has 11 smaller radiators and overheats in the normal biomes however it’s fine in the arctic. I have a very similar tank from a few years ago that has the same engine and same micro controllers and it had 1 radiator and it is fine even in the desert so definitely think something weird is happening. Speed on my tracked truck did make a difference though. I was doing 60mph at the time though. Anything below 30 didn’t do anything. Also I’ve had issues with fluid jet boats that used to work and now don’t.

test cooling systems when in water tight areas, just like a ship would have, that might be the problem also, try the radiator inside the ocean water.

The Small Pumps that you're using don't actually pump anything, I noticed when you look at the part with the advanced tool tip. The small pumps can only pump up to ~11.2 atm after which they can't pump any more, you need bigger pumps!! So with my freshwater, I have 2 loops. Pressurized Freshwater loop that goes into the engine, and one seawater loop. The sea water loop has one small pump, simply pumping seawater through an heat exchanger. The Freshwater loop takes Freshwater Tank > through a Large Fluid pump > into the Freshwater loop, this is just to prime the cooling loop. The actual flowrate in the Freshwater Loop comes from an impeller pump, which is used to circulate the Freshwater from the engine > to the heat exchanger > through the pump > and back to the engine. ///// Setup ///// I.E.: Seawater Loop: OCEAN > Fluid Pump > Liquid-Liquid 5x5 Heat Exchanger Side A > OCEAN Freshwater Tank > Large Fluid Pump > Freshwater Loop Freshwater Loop: ENGINE > Liquid-Liquid 5x5 Heat Exchanger Side B > _Impeller Pump_ > ENGINE Now see if you can prime the Freshwater Loop to 30 ATM, like I described above, using the Large Fluid Pump, you should be able to as I tested this works reliably for me. when your loop reaches 30 ATM of with freshwater, stop pumping more fluid in. (You can pump in more but that will impact the flowrate, 30 seems to be the sweet spot.) This is the priming phase. Once you're done with priming, you can spin up the impeller pump, it only needs 1-2 RPS to operate at maximum speed. This pump stays running during operation to move the heat from the engine to the liquid-liquid 5x5 heat exchanger. Also note the ease of stacking more heat exchangers can also help transfer rates. Operating this method, you want to first prime the engine freshwater cooling loop to 30 ATM, only then do you want to turn on the pumps and the engine itself, because the impeller pump will cause higher and lower pressure on the output side and the input side of the pump. I hope this better satisfies explaining what I meant with pressurizing the loops. You got the large fluid pump priming Freshwater loop at 30 ATM that flows through the engine using the impeller pump, that'll get you a flow rate around 314 L/s, and you got the ocean cooling that just brings in seawater to the heat exchanger using a normal fluid pump.

You could also try to use a bunch of air scoops. This should give you crazy amounts of flowrate at >4m/s

Can You Maybe Make a Video about using using hoses - ocean -> Pump -> Radiator to fluid port anchor -> hose to fluid port -> Modular Cooling Engine -> back into ocean ?

Have you thought about instead of moving more cooling medium, to just having more cooling surface? Having multiple radiators. And possibly a heat sink as well. Specifically in differences between parallel and series connections. With how much you're willing to add for extra performance an extra radiator might even take up less space.

I have this in my previous video :) It is for sure better, but that I wanted to see how we can optimize a 1 radiator setup!

Aah, i must have missed that being said/shown. My bad. It felt a little weird to be so fixated on using only one radiator given the video titles.

I have had absolutely zero issues with cooling i think that alot of people just arent building correctly. Btw try these cooling concepts with modular engines and see if they cool any different with them, Great video!😊
@sijonda

Changing to modular will throw another wrench in the testing. Before this update they worked completely differently. The way they generate heat and how they are cooled off. I'd suggest everyone concentrate on the classic engines until everything is figured out and there is a viable solution before jumping to modular engines.

While that is great, it doesn't solve the problem of the prebuilt engines overheating haha :D They have to find a way to fix that imo

Look all he did in the video and still overheat. You don't overheat because don't go up 8 rps

So technically you’re not overheating at 96c. That’s normal operating temp for a motor in the real world. I guess the real issue is just trying to figure out how to keep it at that temp at higher rps. Realistically I would think you would need at least 2 radiators to cool a motor that big. Did you try that already with any success?
@454ss_gaming
@454ss_gaming 9 ай бұрын
Yup! 96C is not overheating but the throttle was at 75%! At 100C they blow up haha so I was keeping them below blowing up levels and testing if a certain set up is better. Having multiple radiators did help, but require major rework in all my ship, which I don't really want to do :)

Try putting few radiators in a series or parallel, maybe put in some extra pumps if the flowrate gets too bad. Stacking two radiators and some t junctions could be a pretty easy fix. Also maybe try putting the propeller against the radiator in a way that the other side of the radiator isn't blocked?

Is that possible to make a turbo with 2 pump, one on the gas exoste and one in the air intake ? Im searching for the best motor to have the less fuel consommation/power

The testing I did was more focused on the room / compartment rate of temperature change, the results of which indicated that a larger temperature differential allows for a larger rate of heat transfer. For example, the radiator in the sealed compartment will heat up at the same rate at one outside to begin with, but as the room heats up, the transfer of heat from the radiator to the room will slow down. Unfortunately, data is EVERYTHING, which is why I've shifted to making my new creation which will help in logging data and displaying it.

@@Lord_Bison feels like a good way to get grey hairs prematurely. Got the data logging (every tick) and a rudimentary time scale "zoom" working, made a change to try and stabilise the graph and got a nice "exceeded 1000ms execution time" error in game. But, I did just have an idea to fix it, however that will cause other issues I'll need to solve.

What I found out is that, when using an open loop with seawater, pressure at the "in coolant" port of the engine is capped. Adding pumps, whatever the one you chose, has no effect on the pressure or fluid flow rate. Moreover, when looking at the pump I can see that there is no differentiel pressure between the "fluid in" ad "fuid out" port. My conclusion is that in an open loop cooling system, one cannot have any influence on the cooling performance of the engine.

Good comment. Ive also independantly concluded this. Capped to 10 or 8.x L/s more or less. To me, the pump inlet pressure seems to always be 0.4 atm even if you put pumps in series.

So fuel efficiency has always been best at around 8-12 rps. It would appear that now cooling is the same way. The question to ask though is is it intentional, or are they going to do something which changes it again? I wish they would just say what they believe the optimal setup should be so we would have a baseline to build from instead of all the guesswork.
