This is a great video, but one thing early on stuck me as odd and threw me off. At 1:08 the video says to not accept distortions, etc... This seems to be at odds with the Mara story, where the Buddha stops fighting his demons and invites them in, thereby denying them their threatening facade. I think there is a big difference between accepting (acknowledging) some bad belief and believing in it. If one thinks, i must not have distorted thoughts, i must reject them, they do not disappear. Quite the opposite!! Rather, the approach that has worked for me is to accept everything, especially irrational feelings, and just allow them to be there, reserving judgment. At this point, i can clearly see the stories, and it is very obvious which ones are false. Rather than reject them (because they are no longer a threat), I simply choose to not believe in them. As a result, my mind and body no longer react to these stories.

宋少閑 。 DBT strives to teach people that life is changing and pain is inevitable. This concept is difficult for many to accept making their life miserable and challenging. To radically accept is to do it whole heartedly not agreeing with it but acknowledging that it’s present, not pushing it away nor clinging on to it. Thus, by not accepting distortions it means not to cling on to those thought just to notice and let go. If a person clings on to those distorted thought they will create and perpetuate their own suffering.

The only complaint I have is that the sound is so low... Great content, punctuation, thank you. Why does it seem like it ends so abruptly, without finishing the story?

Hi! Thank you for this video 😊 I only have one question about the steps. What do you mean with ‘accept the cause of the reality to accept?’. For instance, I feel sad because I had to breakup with someone. Do I just have to accept why I broke up with her? Thank you!

Radical Acceptance is not the solution for me. I have suffered from Depressive Realism, BPD, PTSD, Severe Depression, Anxiety, and constant state of despair, loneliness, and panick for about 50 years now. So how about I radically accept that I'm dead inside, have always been dead inside, and will continue to be dead inside? I've had no choice but to "radically accept" this. There is no way out. I am clearly here to suffer and it's getting real old accepting that fact. I honestly don't want to come across as being negative. I just see no way out. I've tried so hard for so long.

That sounds more like learned helplessness (I think that's what me & my mom & sisters have, and I think in one of my sisters it developed into bpd). The first video I've seen so far on radical acceptance was in the context of narcissistic abuse, and in that case it was super helpful bc instead of staying attached to toxic abusive people (out of hope that they might change someday) it helps you detatch from them emotionally & mentally (bc you deserve better!). I think bpd can sometimes come about from narcissistic abuse (like invalidation & gaslighting, that make you lose trust & hope in yourself - toxic people always want you to think that YOU are the toxic person instead of them, I think that is what happened to my sister. I wish I could help her, but my life is also such a mess 😖). Anyway, I don't mean to be presumptuous, just felt like I had an insight when I saw the other video & wanted to share. I hope you have found something that works better for you 💖

@@nataliaturner4845 ♥️ Thank you for your insight Natalia and for taking the time to show you care. My father started drilling into my head when I was 5 years old that I was a let down, a failure, an embarrassment.... I was at my sister's wedding reception, playing outside with my older nephew. He was carving a stick and I asked if he would carve me one. He told me to go find one. I saw a tree across the road and of course headed right for it. Got hit by a car and thrown into the air I'm told. My father was nowhere to be found. He stayed inside with his buddies, no doubt embarrassed and talking about how stupid I was. Wasn't until I was in the ambulance and about ready to head out whe he came to the back door and spoke with my mother. I expected him to say something like "you're going to be ok, see you in a while little guy" 😂 Nope. He looked at me with utter disgust and shook his head. I could hear this thoughts that I was idiot, embarrassment, and that I ruined my sisters wedding day. He said not a word. That was the day I learned he was not what I thought he was. I have spent the past 50 years believing everything and everyone is a lie until I determine otherwise. I have been hyper aware x10 since that day along with waiting for my life to fall apart at any minute. He woke me up that day which I'm not sure was a blessing or a curse. I'm told I need to make a life worth living, but that is challenging with half century of PTSD, Depression, and BPD. I'm close with my siblings and have really great friends. Getting back into playing guitar and writing songs. Has helped a bunch. Thank you again for your note.

@@donniellama4463 That was so awful & wrong of him to treat you like that. I'm sorry for all you went through. It's so hard to have self-worth & believe in yourself with an authority figure always tearing you down, especially when you're so young 💔 But I'm glad you have your siblings & friends today to support you! It's a blessing to have good people in your life bc it shows that you are full of good too! :)

who says we have a mind apart from our brain? what is a heart/spirit? these things cannot be measured or quantified. Therefore, how do we move beyond acceptance to radical acceptance when there is no radical acceptance?
@sostrange80
@sostrange80 2 жыл бұрын
Good point I'd say radical acceptance with the heart is referring to your emotional body we are not solely thought our mind is also made up of our emotional and somatic experience. So radical acceptance is possible still for people who have a atheist stance or who don't believe in concepts such as the soul.

yes bored and content. As opposed to bored and anxious. That's how acceptance works. If you're bored and don't want to be bored you could, do something else. That's a situation you have control over.

@@tly507 Nope. Not if your boredom is caused by your job and babysitting. Difficult to change that boredom.
@tly507

@@mickeymouse7861 sounds like you could get a new job and quit babysitting. Those are choices. If you are unwilling or cannot do that. Then true acceptance of those facts will ease your distress. If it doesn't than your still choosing to fight with the boredom rather than accept it as a result of choices you've made and your current reality.
