Jason, ForeFlight pro tip for you when you drew the pattern. Open the FPL, click Procedure, click Traffic Pattern, select the runway, select (straight in, 45, cross midfield teardrop/direct) and it will draw it for you.

Went to a very busy Charlie airport (John Wayne) yesterday and totally butchered my clearance readback. Feels bad, but it was my first clearance I'd ever done and I was very stressed out, so I studied the 4 items he gave me afterwards so I'm prepared next time. (1. Turn/Heading 2. Altitude 3. Radio Frequency 4. Transponder )

Transferring from a profession where radio traffic needs to be clear and concise, I find the "I can talk 1,000 words a minute" annoying and doesn't sound as professional as people think. That speed is negated if I need you to read it again.

My private pilot training were at "Pompano Beach airpark" (KPMP). I never saw guys from the tower but their voices sounds like a 70+ years old mans. Every time after landing I heard "cherokee 7500 contact ground". And you know what? After changing frequency I heard the same voice in my headset. Old school ATC.

I so wish I could go up and fly, even if it's just for a short flight in one of those Cessnas one day. God knows, it may happen. Maybe it's just because I'm blind and am used to speech and voices evolving over the years, but that voice reading the ATIS is kind of cool to hear, But I completely understand why it could creap some people out. And it's fasinating to listen to ATC! I love these videos! Keep it up the both of you!

As a pilot and controller - another great video. Only thing to add is when you get the atis, let atc know. And yes, that atis guy is annoying! Even in the break room :) safe travels!

It’s also cool in ForeFlight where you can zoom in and it’ll show you the floors and ceilings of each part of the airspace as well as the frequencies.

Nav Canada use a computer ATIS at many airports but with a much more sophisticated speech synthesis system. My home base (Kamloops CYKA) has an 8000 foot runway and I'm practicing tailoring my touchdown points. It's hard not to touch down just past the numbers...

Quick question here. When you are handed over tower form APP, is it okay to say just distance and direction with tail number like you in the video? I know app and tower are kind of connected and share our info so just tail number could be enough. but I want to know official standard phraseology. Should I say all info to tower like when I go class D airport(name,direction,distance,intention,ATIS.etc.)?? Thanks.

A question, Jason..... what is the red flashing light next to the Dynon at the top under the glareshield? I tend to be adverse to red lights and flashing even more, so I wonder what this might be given that it flashes for the entire flight.

Fast != Efficient. There’s no reason for the approach controller to speak so fast; the spacing requirements certainly leave enough gaps to speak at a normal pace. It’s a very inefficient way to communicate because it increases the likelihood of a miscommunication or results in back and forth clarifications which end up taking more time than had he spoken at a normal pace. I re-listened the part where he clears Jason to proceed to mid-field left downwind 24 and can barely understand it. Personally I’d just repeat the part I understood, and then request clarification followed by “speak slower” as per ATC Pilot/Controller Vocabulary: SPEAK SLOWER− Used in verbal communications as a request to reduce speech rate.

Australian robot ATIS are far less robot like. I found in general when I lived in the states speech synthesis is stuck in the dark ages.
