Well Jay, rain is a recurring metaphor for (usually) one of two things: - a great sadness around the subject - a purification process that cleanses your soul, sins, mistakes, bad stuff ... Somehow they show you the roller coaster of a paranoid man: sadness and depression (in the quiet parts), madness (the voices/noises/chorus), the rage and anger (frenetic guitar parts) and his sudden changes of mood. Is it not beautiful how they put all that into a song? Anyway, Radiohead is, in my opinion, one of the smartest bands out there and you can appreciate that through their lyrics, complex compositions, instrumentation, the production details ... Absolutely brilliant. I have attended their concerts 4 times since '98 and LIVE they are completely incredible, MASTERS!

"Rain" is also wordplay for the homophone "Reign" (to hold royal office; rule as King) ... as in they who 'reign (hold power) over' their subjects ~ the general public (tax slave masses). _"Reign down on me ... from a 'great height'"_ (i.e. "hold power from a position of superior authority") ... Such as was alluded to earlier in the song: _"When I am King, you will be first against the wall, with your opinion which is of no consequence at all."_

Man, once I was invited to review this track when “OK Computer” turned 25. And to me this is the song I would play sitting on the top of a mountain to watch the end of the world. When they played in my first Radiohead concert I cried like a baby. Please react to Jessie Ware “Remember Who You Are (short film)” and Radiohead “Subterranean Alien Homesick”, also from OK Computer.

Radiohead is a great segway to Sigur Ros. I think you’d really enjoy them. Check out their tune “Hoppipolla”. One of the most beautiful uplifting songs you’ll ever hear.

Thanks! A gem, a treat, pure jam, etc... Don't know how many times I've listened to this song. Just as so many others by them. Love their versatility and especially the switch of an atmosphère or rhythm to another in most of their well-known songs. Their first four albums are fantastic.

The bridge on this song is incredible. You get to hear what Thom Yorke can really do with his voice! The whole OK Computer album is pure fire. It's a truly legendary album that will live forever! You've got to listen to "Subterranean Homesick Alien"!

Have been a Radiohead fan since Pablo Honeys cam out. Just a brilliant band, Tom Yorke's genius is undeniable but every member of the band is awesome. And live, they are amazing. You're right, got several guitars going on.

This track does indeed take you on a journey but it's quite esoteric and makes such a full use of dynamics that it can be quite confusing - if you feel like a more straightforward track from this album then I'd recommend Exit Music which is pretty wonderful.

As a total music junkie, one of my all time favorite bands! Their music is a very specific, unique place. Each one of their songs, a special journey. Kudos for checking them out J. They have some that will blow you away, very different from this one. Very layered music, cryptic even. ❤️

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! to more Radiohead! I'm so glad you're finally here and hope you do a deep dive as they have a large, diverse, extremely creative catalog. I suggest - Let Down, Weird Fishes, Street Spirit, There, There, Videotape, No Surprises.

Its mostly (but not all) about Thoms encounter with a very unpleasant woman after he or someone else spilled her drink, she went off on him screaming about ruining her Gucci outfit and how it cost more than they earned in a year and how dare they even be near her etc, etc 'when i am king you will be first against the wall' 'ambition makes you look so ugly' 'kicking screaming gucci little piggy' 'rain down on me from a great hight' (piss on me from above, you are so much better than me) 'yuppies networking, the panic the vomit'

This came out in 1997, not long before the internet - and specifically social media - took over everyone's lives. With this album, Radiohead correctly predicted that the technology of the near future would ultimatley separate and isolate us, rather than bring us together. Not a new concept at all, but I don't think anyone else summed it up so perfectly and so artitstically. OK Computer is widely regarded as one of the best albums ever made, give it a listen!
