This really is a handy bit of kit, making it so the handset orientation is another set of inputs (look ma, no hands!), and works great. Regarding your own project, you may want to check out one of Ivan Efimov (Limon from BetaFlight)'s recent videos ("Easiest DIY Motion Controller for FPV using Betaflight"), as he has been playing with the MT12 and using a flight control for it's gyro/IMU, feeding it into the handset using SBUS. Was able to get pitch, roll AND yaw that way. Could probably just as easily using the headtracker project, but that could be a new use for an old/otherwise gathering dust FC.

Thanks. His are some of the videos I was referring to. This gyro opens up the radio for lots of additional uses... Happy flying!

Aa friend of mine drives an RC buggy one-handed with a conventional radio remote control. In mode 1, it uses the throttle axis to manage the throttle and the aileron axis for steering. The handle spring is activated to have forward gear by pushing the handle and the brake and reverse gear by pulling the handle. This takes a little practice, but it works very well.

Brings back the single stick radios from the eighties. This must be great for hand launching models with no flight controller, especially if you - like me - can't master the left hand throw.

That's brilliant indeed! Thanks, Lee! 😃 This is definitely going to be useful! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

with the trainer port onboard you could almost fly like a real plane aside from the throttle trigger

Hi Lee, Great video and information about how to get the gyro working on your MT12. I miss my single stick radio, I am disabled and don't have much movement on my right side, so I started flying with a single stick radio. Last one I seen was a TARANIS radio. Unfortunately I talked with FRSKY and they decided not to make it. Thanks again for the video and information on this radio.

3rd axis for yaw should get you all the fixed wing controls and would work with copters too. Stay tuned for version 2.0

Does that addon disable the "steering wheel" on the radio? If not then some clever extension (like maybe ziptying a paddle extending from the wheel) will allow for fully controlling 4 channels with one hand, trigger finger for throttle, a thumb or something else for the yaw and tilt/pitch for those two. Interesting to see, i could imagine using the gyro functions for controlling a camera gimbal in a FPV ground vehicle.

No, adds two more inputs...

This looks like a better solution than the hack video but if I remember correctly, launching was a pain for him. I guess autolaunch could solve that 😅

could the steering knob be swapped to be throttle and the throttle becomes rudder, and the gyro for the other two axis?

Developed in-house at RM. Has been in the works since the initial MT12 concept, just finally made it to market. It's more limited than what Limon came up with, as it is using the accessory port at the bottom of the radio, which can only read two analog inputs - i.e. the two-axis joystick, the two 2POS switches (although it technically should be able to do 3POS) and now two axis 'gyro'. Limon was using the trainer sbus, thus was able to feed in all three axis from the flight controller.

@@pfeerick A while ago I thought about controlling a plane using the head tracker on my goggles, but I haven't tried it yet.

@@altermannfliegt3927 I've also been tempted, as my goggles have headtracker, plus I have the parts for the dlktdr's Head Tracker project... but haven't been brave enough to try it either. I do know of a guy who uses one of the Frsky radios with built-in IMU (think it's the X12), and he uses it for one-handed control of the plane while reaching for a beer! 😆
