My old man taught me that your only as good as your word. Look someone in the eyes and shake hands on a deal, and that is the only contract needed. I'm 70 now and hope that is still a thing. Thanks for this song.

That's exactly the way my old man was, and how I've operated all along mainly because of that upbringing. I'm the same age and have unfortunately realized that far too many ppl don't possess that level of honor, or in considering their word as 'golden', and it's now becoming a lost honor for far too many.

I was taught that by my dad and his dad. It's disheartening when a whole city can't seem to be above board when hired to do a job, complete it, right the first time, as told and explained to. Guess I'm not the only one that sees things are different in the New World. 😡

An old man ain’t always related to you. It’s the man who teaches you how to be better than he was so that you can teach a youngin how to be better than both of you were. So all them hard days of work, and those days of feeling alone all amount to a story you can tell. When my church would do charity runs through the tent cities of bigger places than where I lived, they always said “you ain’t gotta thank me, just pay it forward”. So pay it all forward. The wisdom is worth more than any dollar you could ever spend.

I lost my husband in October 2014, he was the most amazing husband, Dad and Bumpa. I carry precious memories in my heart. I recently lost my Dad February 17th after a brief and unexpected illness. He was 82 years old and was in the process of building a new house for him and my Mom. They were high school sweethearts married 63 years, 5 children, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was the Patriarch of Our Family and we are heartbroken 💔 😢 I've lost the two most loving and amazing men in my life. 😭

If a man has a son that thinks that highly of him, then his life was a success story. The song was well played on that guitar. The folks at Radio West Virginia have some great sound engineers. The reverb on this was powerful, just like it was on the Oliver Anthony song that y'all recorded. That brought me to this guy singing this song, and you excellent work is causing me to subscribe.

Found a couple weeks before father's day and it just hits home. Dad tried to teach me lots of important lessons, but the one's that mattered most I got just from watching him. A guy who wasn't above any job when it came to caring for his family- a college degreed chemist who cheerfully took a job shoveling out stalls on a farm when he was laid off. Later in life when it happened again I watched him learn to lay flooring. Those are the things that stick with you. Thank you for such bringing it to mind again- I raise a glass to fathers like that.

Blessed to have the old man I had too Wes Shipp! Miss that old man every day! Like you said to make sure we were warm and fed he worked til his fingers bled. 7-3 as a maintenance man at a apartment complex and always doing side jobs in the evening after working all day. A few times I'd find his lunch in the fridge after I'd roll out of the sack and load it up on the fourwheeler and run it to him. It really seemed to make his day that I cared enough to bring it to him. Sometimes when I'd roll in for a visit he'd ask me "hey bud you cut my hair" and of course every time I said "sure old man." God what I'd give to cut his hair for him one more time! Love ya old man and miss you dearly. Hope you and mom are walking the streets of gold hand in hand. Love you both dearly and miss y'all so much it hurts everyday but I gotta keep on. The hardest part though was when I had to tell my kids their grandpa was gone it crushed my soul to see them hurt the way they did. Lots of great memories though because my parents were awesome!

He is my hero to this day, every day I had with him was a blessing, I miss him so very much. Lord, I ask that you help other Dads be the hero to their children, help guide Dads down the path of leadership by example for their family. Please help children understand and appreciate their Dad so that precious time does not slip through their fingers. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Wow what a tribute to a good dad! I've come to realize that even though my dad didn't seem too great, he actually was because he didn't pass down the abuse that was done to him. He was a broken man but still did enough so I could understand later in life that he desired to do better but was just so broken with no help. It will be much better in Heaven and i look forward to that. ✝️

My Dad wasn't a typical Dad. He was a old biker, former member of The Dirty Dozen of Arizona. People judged him negatively by the way he dressed, his tattoos, long hair and by what the news had to say about The Dozen, but to me, he was just my Dad. And I loved him just the way he was. Guess I always will love him. Kids these days expect their parents to be perfect but the truth is, nobody's perfect.

Been a musician/song writer/performer pretty much my entire life and that has to be one of the best songs I have heard in a very long time - so much raw emotion, truth, let the story be told...I have no words to describe how this song made me feel....absolutely amazing work!!!
