I love this version of black so much the fact that eddie gives mcready the stage fully to do his mind twisting black solo vs earlier live performances where eddie interupts almost, its like an older humbler vedder gives mcready the presidence to just obliterate and do what he does that touch on the shoulder is the nod. Where mcready goes during the black solos can only be described as spiritual

@aaronlincoln39492 жыл бұрын
I was hoping it would never end, by far the best version of “black” played live by them. Timing is perfect with all instruments, Eddie’s voice is solid, but McCreedy’s solo just shows the amount of pain and suffering he’s dealt with throughout his entire life, there few and far between, but any extended version of any song from either Mad Season, Pearl Jam, or Temple of the Dog, are all fucking incredible. The fact he plays those solos out the way he does in these songs goes to show the deep connection still felt to those songs and emotions tied to such a beautifully magnificently arranged set of notes that only McCreedy could give justice. One love brother, thank you for being the savage that you are, countless inspiration has been given to me from your music and how you dealt with the shit you’ve endured.

I am impressed how well Eddy's vocal chords held up after all these years of that raspy, distorted grunge style. Most of the guys from that era have no pipes left. Similar to the 80's head-screamers. Although I notice he cleverly avoided singing the most difficult notes and left it to the audience to do it for him. He also shows a lot less emotion when doing this song, but that makes sense given that he's now 30 years or so removed from whatever incident inspired him to write this song.

Eddie wrote this song about a high school girlfriend. Your whole comment is spot on though. Not alot of vocalists can maintain the voices over the years but, Eddie Vedder is one of the exceptions. Billy Ocean is another that comes to mind, and he started out in the late 70's.

Nothing worse than seeing a thirty year old band that were sick of their set list twenty years ago but need a check to make a few payments. Many people dont take STYX seriously for some reason but they hit the stage and put on a rock show every show and have for 45 years. That's what professionals do. Like most vocalists of his age, after years of alcohol & tobacco usage, they can pretty much only operate in low range bordering on flat.

@@reznick303 you should not forget, 1992 that song was quite new, the band still young. Over the years, how many times has he sang this song? I can imagine one gets wary as time goes by. 30y is a long time and performing always the same hundreds of times, it's understandable. still love Eddie and the '92 unplugged!

I grew up on Pearl Jam and Eddie”s personal music and I realized after all the years what all of the songs that have meaning behind them always bring me sadness because I feel what he goes through I’ve been on this earth for a while now and like I really appreciate the band and him I really hope I can see him live before anything happens to them

Hey, hey, yeah, uh Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay Were laid spread out before me as her body once did All five horizons revolved around her soul as the earth to the sun Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn, ooh And all I taught her was everything Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds Of what was everything Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black Tattooed everything I take a walk outside, I'm surrounded by some kids at play I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear Oh and twisted thoughts that spin 'round my head I'm spinning, oh I'm spinning, how quick the sun can drop away And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass Of what was everything All the pictures have all been washed in black Tattooed everything All the love gone bad turned my world to black Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll be yeah Oh oh ooh I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky, but why Why, why can't it be, oh can't it be mine?

Top.
