The SSV and Auxillary ports are a huge benefit to the driving characteristic of the Renesis 13b. If these valves are not working properly you are not experiences the full potential of a wicked 200hp rotary engine. Make sure to keep the carbon build up out of these locations for peak performance.

Top rotational valve underneath the black upper intake is the VDI aka "Variable Dynamic Intake". With intake setups, there is always some form of reversion once the rotor closes the port. The VDI opens in the upper rpm to allow that reversed flow to the opposite rotor creating a small super charging effect. When the other rotor closes the port, that reversion comes back and goes back to the other rotor to super charge the other side. The VDI bounces that reversion back and forward until it closes. This is essentially Mazda's version of V-Tech.

Do you think it would be possible to spray a lot of cleaner down onto these without having to remove the engine?

If for whatever reason you can't get a new gasket in time, you could drill the rivets out, soak the layers in a pan of acetone and scrub the coating off with a wire brush. Re coat the layers with some spray on copper gasket.

The little screws to hold in each of those APV Barrel valves is like $15 per bolt. The bolt is weak, and it's shouldered. Be careful to not break that bolt like I did doing that job. Blue loctite and screwdriver torque only will suffice for those bolts, otherwise you're up for a wait for one tiny bolt that's made your wallet $15 lighter. Also, you lucked out that that engine didn't ingest that 10mm... I've seen some gnarly damage from a 10mm socket going down a port.

Just an FYI I'm not sure if it's a part of the world thing, but not all SSVs have the switch to report back to the ECU. Also it is possible(but very difficult) to remove the lower intake manifold without removing the engine, however you do have to cant it over so engine mounts need to be undone and pry bars can be very helpful

I did some measuring and I knew it wouldn't just come out. But I for sure haven't tried to tilt the engine over and remove it. Sounds like a lot of extra work. But if you don't have a hoist then that makes sense

Soak those groady valves overnight in a mixture of acetone and trans fluid it does wonders. Hardware stores sell it by the gallon

After removing apv motor the gear moves freely but get sticky when fully open sat there for 10 mins moving it back and forth car seems to run better low rpm and butt dyno makes it seem faster then last night Ima do the decarb and hopefully fix the issue until I rebuild the motor

This is the first video I have found that discusses carbon buildup of the Shutter valves and the gear mechanism that opens and closes them. Kudos to you! I'd bet many a novice has attempted to pull an RX-8 lower manifold has experienced this sticking issue! It gradually makes sense that the engine control module merely dictates information to the vacuum solenoids and they in turn open and close according to demands placed on them with the help of a gear motor driven by vacuum pressure. Simple, eh?

Buddy has 145k miles on his rx8 no rebuild unless it happened before he got it at 25k... The rx8 is a amazing car for the price! The only downside to the Rx8 is gas mileage to power ratio 20 mpg freeway with only 220 hp kinda lame.. I get over 25 mpg in my 397 Awhp Evo...

Man. You make me worry about my 2009. It's a low mileage unicorn (very close to 12k miles). Other than redline every time I drive it anything else I can do to mitigate the carbon. This is making me question my sanity getting into rotary life.

I went full synthetic once I installed the sohn adapter. =D Fresh two stroke at all times. I also have a stage one tune that increases the two stroke added per load and rpm. =] I have to premix less now because I was fouling my spark plugs much quicker than usual.

The lack of use of each valve is generally the main reason for them getting carbon locked. Regular high rev shifting can help prevent this. Also spending less time at idle. Many people will let their rx8 warm up before driving thinking its good fo it. All fuel injected vehicles should be driven at light load, low rpm immediately after start up to accelerate the warm up process. Jist sitting and idling will cause more carbon build up. Once it's completely up to temp let it rip! Also you may want to cruise in a lower gear to raise the rpm. This can also help reduce carbon build up. 2 stroke oil can play a big part in renesis reliability even for the S2 modles. It can even help lubricate the aux port vales. On the S1 the oil injectors are pointed diagonally away from the center of the apex seal. That causes the seal to sag over time.
@jo-qp7mz
@jo-qp7mz 2 жыл бұрын
Since you have a s2 you can't do omp adapter. You can still add 40w oil I would do a synthetic blend or regular oil. Also for a carbon clean some people do a steam clean some people do zoom zoom cleaner ( seafoam) also check on your coil packs.
