This New Free bait catches Monster Sheepshead. In this video I'm using what I believe to be the most readily available and best bait for Sheepshead fishing.
About a year ago I saw a guy at the pier using barnacles as chum. Once he had attracted a bunch of fish to the food he'd drop a single barnacle on a very small hook into the middle of the feeding frenzy. He limited out in about thirty minutes. So for a year I've been wanting to try his technique. To my surprise it's the easiest free bait to get and Sheepshead love them.

I might suggest a 6’10 heavy fast rod. Little less flex but it will pull them away from the Pilings before they wrap you and snap you maybe moderate-fast action but less flex equals more control after the hook set

Awesome video JC. Interesting using the barnacles. I may have to try that. I'm whacking trout and ladyfish - got 6 trout and 7 ladies this morning out of the kayak; lost a couple more trout and another 7 or 8 ladies - all on a 1/4 oz DOA swim jig. Those ladyfish are just insane the way they hit and fight.

We used barnacles for chum back in the early 70's and oysters for bait to catch Convicts. We had a train trestle that ran over a flat with oyster bars at low tide was shallow enough to scrap the barnacles off the trestles and get enough oysters to last a day. made for some nasty and messy fishing but it was free bait. fiddler crabs were the bait of choice most of the time.

When is the best time to get some mud crabs? Early in the morning or could you even do it later in the evening? Which is your preference

The lowest of the low tides. Most places that have rocks aren't very accessible on tides other than low.

How do yall eat them?? They stink when you clean them and turn me off of eating em I guess fried is the best way but what's your preference? I think florida just spoils me with snappers I have no reason to want to eat sheepshead

My favorite way to eat them is pan seared in olive oil then finished off with garlic, butter and lemon.

Bridges dude! My dad outfished many that were on boats just by going to different bridges. Unfortunately he never took me fishing for sheepshead cuz reasons. I'm moving back to Florida after watching a lot of this guy's videos. I am now a sheepshead master just cuz I watched his videos lol or at least feels like it haha

Why in Gods name would you put out the barnacle secret. Not cool dude, limited amounts of fish out there, let them use shrimp and crabs. Between magazines, strike lines, and crazy electronics, the fish have a hard enough time as it is

Thanks for commenting. It's no secret. Just search KZfaq for "catching sheepshead with barnacles." I've known for ten years that people catch Sheepshead on barnacles, I've just only fished with them once though...Thanks for watching.

It's a common practice. It's not like this is some great secret, people have been doing it for as long as there have been barnacles and sheepshead. Barnacles ARE real bait. Why not whine about fiddler crabs? Mud crabs? Shrimp?
