Great video; thanks for creating and sharing. I'd bet that the headtube change was to sync the frame geometry with the RadRunner Plus to save costs. As I understand, the original Plus had to be altered to accommodate the front suspension fork (which of course is absent on the RR1/2). So what they've now done is modified the RR1/2 to match the RR+ geometry (or so I strongly suspect).

This e bike is an excellent choice for folks just getting into the e bike world. It checks all the right boxes, versatile for its use and for the different types of riders, older folks included, thanks to the step thru design. Plus it appears to be very sturdy. Very nice presentation as you always do.

Do you think not having the gears makes it less likely to pedal the bike for exercise? I am thinking about an ebike but I'm worried if it is only 1 gear I could use the throttle too much and end up not pedaling and then there goes the exercise - which is the point of getting one. Ha!

Great review, the original Rad Runner was my 1st ebike, and it is what made me fall in love with ebikes! I am now on my 3rd, but I still have the Rad Runner and still have a blast with it. The favorite one I have is the Rad Mini. I think the subtle upgrades on the new model are well done.

@EbikeEscape
@EbikeEscape 2 жыл бұрын
The RadRunner can not be override though you could buy the controller upgrade. I believe it's also possible if you buy the Rad LCD display. I think the RadMini offers more comfort simply due to the front suspension but you can lower the tire pressure on both of them. They both use the same motor.

Did you try it on plowed compressed snow with some ice spots. I am curious how those tires would work in Wisconsin winters. We have a lot of gravel roads up here by Lake Superior that I would love to use it on year round.
@EbikeEscape
@EbikeEscape Жыл бұрын
Unless you use studded tires or snow chains, no rubber tire is going to do anything on ice. We are from Wisconsin also. So we can say this bike will do ok on packed snow, but you really need to be ready to put your feet down. This bike, depending on your height, gives you the ability to do that.

I've had my RR2 for 6 weeks. I've only taken it on some test rides around my neighborhood. I put it on a car rack for a few days in anticipation of taking it out for a real ride. During that time it was exposed to some light rain. When I took it down for my ride it would not turn on. I noted some small droplets of condensation in the LED display unit. After some trouble getting in touch with customer support I was told to read the fine print of the warranty; "does not cover water damage". Rad wants me to order a new $60 display, even though the bike is new and only was exposed to light rain. Apparently their bikes are only to be used in places where it never rains. The bike's electronics are not sealed to resist moisture. If you are driving somewhere with your bike on a rack, and the clouds get dark, immediately seek a dry shelter to wait out any precipitation or it will kill your bike. I have a Blix ebike that has no issues with rain or moisture. They now offer a bike comparable to the RR2. I wish I had bought that bike.

What is the advantage of a single speed ? Real question
@EbikeEscape
@EbikeEscape 2 жыл бұрын
Simplicity, for some. Some people just don't want to worry about maintaining or worrying about gears - in some ways the electric motor negates the need for it. And a way to bring the price down for the manufacturer.

@googleuser6635
@googleuser6635 2 жыл бұрын
@@EbikeEscape Not really. I tried contacting their support. Several times. More than a week later, they finally replied, but did not seem to have any product knowledge. I tried calling, and again, they were basically clueless. I called again. Different person. Just as clueless. They acted as if I was an annoyance, and as if I was certainly wasting their time. In all my efforts to get answers to simple questions, they never made the slightest attempt to be helpful. They answered in a bored voice with, "dunno", and "look on the web site". One Rad owner did actually answer several of my questions on a comment I posted in another video. He literally went and checked his bike to get the answers. Apparently, that is just too difficult for Rad "customer service". I think it is terrible that people give such glowing reviews of bike companies and products, but appatently theirs is the only positive experience, likely mainly due to their youtube status. Everyone else apparently gets treated like dirt. Even on these videos, I tried to get answers to questions. Crickets, for the most part. You would think that the people pushing these products would have some interest in making sure people had the best experience with those products,, but no. Micah Toll, for example, pushes all sorts of electric bikes on youtube, and on various web sites. Mostly, though, comments are closed. I tried contacting him, to see if he could help. No reply. That really shows the attitude of e-bike people. Their web site is...useless. Since I am not in their limited area, I finally asked if there was somewhere I could get my hands on one of their bikes, to find out for myself. They sent me to their terrible web site. I was finally able to get to the page with the list of places. Unfortunately, any place within 6 hours of me has closed yp shop, or no longer deals with Rad bikes. In fact, I have been unable to find anyone or anywhere that has anything but bad things to say about Rad bikes. No local shop will touch Rad bikes. I got horror stories about constant order issues, Rad not standing behind their products, part failures, broken parts being sold as new, and bikes waiting a year or more in the shop. The shops explained that they cannot store bikes for a year while waiting on Rad to send a good part. While I was at one shop, the shop showed me a number of broken Rad bikes. Rad just does not care about their customers. Thst is Rad bikes in a nutshell: they do not care about their customers. Lately, though, I've been watching bike riders. As a whole, I have found them to be the rudest, most inconsiderate people group I've encountered. In Virginia, they were riding 8 abreast, blocking both lanes of the 50MPH road, but going about 6 MPH. In Missouri, where there are many bike trails, they ride on the highway, which is often less that 20 feet away. They do not signal, and fail to follow any traffic laws. Where there are bike lanes, they still ride in the driving lanes. In the stores, they are pushy, rude, and think they are entitled. They leave trash everywhere. Several times, I have had bicyclists run red lights and chash into my vehicle. They were upset about the damage to their bike, and about the impact to their "time". Who cares? I have had they crash into my person, as well. Yesterday, my son and I went bike riding. Sure, we were not making good speed (maybe 8 MPH), but the other cyclists on the trail just had foul things to say. What, they couldn't time their approach to wait a few seconds for oncoming traffic to go by, so they could pass? We had as much right to the trail as they did, but they sure took all the fun out of the ride. Maybe their obnoxious attitude is the only attitude acceptable in the bike community. Every time I encounter biking people, it seems I have these types of experiences. Every time I think that maybe I'll give it a try, I find these obnoxious people.
