In our Part1 video we replaced the stock controller on the Radrunner for the Frankenrunner and CA3
• Interfacing Parts on F...
Part 3 Adding Regen Braking • Rad Factory Ebike Hack...
In this video, we show how the CA3 enables an easy upgrade from a basic cadence control scheme to a torque sensor. In the case of a fatbike like this, the bottom bracket will usually be 80 or 100mm wide rather than 68mm, which requires more specialized torque sensor, but luckily we had a few 100mm Sempu sensors lying around in our shop which which fit the bill.

You have way too much fun at work! :) Something occurred to me watching these cycle analyst vids - maybe a future CA model could just be a more compact box with no screen and buttons, and bluetooth + an app to do all the UI/config work and make it look a bit less 1990s. That would also open the door to letting it behave like a real watt meter for the likes of Strava and so on, for those that care. Thanks and keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to my next ebike upgrade using all your bits.

I’ve been watching your videos for about 6 mo. Love them I’m 66 and in fair shape, however I live in N Vancouver in a very hilly area. I wouldn’t have to travel more than 50 km round trip. There are two big hills in the trip. What kit would you suggest? I’m a man and 95 kg. Love to hear your reply. Plus I’m not mechanically minded, could you also recommend a shop for installation? And tuneups !
@GrinTechnologies
@GrinTechnologies 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Allan, generally for a bigger guy with hills we'd recommend the RH212, GMAC, or eZee systems. But if you are not into doing the installation yourself it's likely a better plan to buy a factory ebike than to try and find a shop to install and support a kit for you. Such places, sadly, do not really exist in a way we could endorse.

Can you combine PHASERUNNER controller with Bafang M620 motor pedal torque sensor so it will work in torque pedal assist mode?
@GrinTechnologies
@GrinTechnologies Жыл бұрын
In principle likely yes (with the V6 phaserunner devices), but in practice it would be one heck of a custom wiring and connector hack job.

Only if that particular motor controller has a torque sensor input capability and can be reprogrammed. We don't know any details about it but the vendor you who you purchased it from should be able to help.

What is the part number of the 100MM bottom bracket you used in this video, do you have any like it for sale ?
@GrinTechnologies
@GrinTechnologies 2 жыл бұрын
It's a Sempu sensor. We stopped selling them a couple years ago because of QC issues but still had a few lying around. We'll be carrying a 100mm version of the ERider torque sensors later this year.

I live in Europe and speed limits and throttle is no joke( not allowed). I intend to build a dirt or enduro frame ebike with a sabvoton heavy duty controller. 52v battery, no throttle and speed limit to 27k/h. Since it's gonna be too heavy to pedal and no throttle, so I intend to use an erider torque sensor to a CA v3 and a sabvoton controller. Do you think I can get a smooth and safe performance even if I limit the speed? I was a little bit concerned because someone on endless sphere complained of a dangerous situation on a corner when momentarily stopped pedalling and a power surge suddenly. But he uses sempu torque though. ??? Please I will appreciate your reply. thanks
@GrinTechnologies
@GrinTechnologies Жыл бұрын
Yes for sure, limiting the speed in the controller doesn't change the safety or smoothness. The Sempu sensors were definitely prone to erratic signals and we have seen a few ERiders latch up too in electrically noisy environments, but that can be resolved by grounding the bike frame.

Can the CA3 operate torque and cadence assist simultaneously?
@GrinTechnologies
@GrinTechnologies 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can have a torque sensor on the bike and choose to run it in cadence move instead of torque mode just fine. On that case it will display your human watts, but the assist it provides will be based on cadence regardless of crank torque. You can have different mode presets with different control schemes to easily switch between them
