a great performer will make you feel as if you're hearing a well-known piece for the first time. this is what Radu Lupu does, and I will regret never having had a chance to listen to him play live. thanks for sharing this!

This is amazing! Also... It must have been the mid or late seventies when I witnessed him playing live in a recital in Bucharest. While his talend was not lost on me, I was too young at the time to appreciate its uniqueness. Luckily, we have these amazing recordings, which over the last decades helped me appreciate Lupu's genius. Thank you!

Stunning...! For me, its the first time I'm hearing or become aware of Radu Lupu... Do we even have such master's playing today? I just found an old cast away CD in a junk store titled 'Best of Romanic Piano Music'. I've never heard many of the beautiful classics on it and thought I'd do a web search to educate myself. What a wonderful experience, loaded with surprise and awe! Thank you for posting this UTUBE ... its enabled me and many others to gain knowledge we lacked before. Stunning Pianist!

Indeed! Especially this late live version compared to his 1983 recording, both were beautiful but this interpretation expressed the additional 30 years of lives lived.

Felt the same, then I discovered Grigory Sokolov. Try his Schubert, it's the best around, even better than Lupu!

난 특히 슈베르트의 피아노곡이 좋다. 그중에서도 라두루푸의 슈베르트가 좋다. 조성진은 그의 연주를 듣고 마치 하늘에서 내러와서 치는 거 같이 뭐라 말할 수 없이 좋았다 했는데 나도 그 마음을 안다. 어디로 나를 데려가는 것일까, 그의 브람스 피협 1번도 자주 듣곤한다.

Voilà certes qui sort du "convenu": personnel, inventif,et qui rappelle combien la musique de Schubert peut être à la fois vigoureuse et poétique ; j'ai l'impression d'être devant un paysage connu, qui m'a toujours beaucoup ému ,mais que je vois là sous un éclairage inhabituel et fascinant.

I find myself here, because somebody said that Lupu made a better recording of Schuberts impromptus than Brendel. If that is so, I would like to hear that for myself.

He definitely makes the piano sing... Crystal clear. But I am only listening it on you tube without headphones... I would much prefer to hear it on cd, with the sound quality of a cd recording. I like what I hear though. These impromptus are my favourite piano pieces of all pianoforte !

I don't like Lupu's Schubert Impromptus D.935 at all. Not "Schubert" enough for my taste! I grew up with the very traditional recordings by Alfred Brendel, his teacher Edwin Fischer and Artur Schnabel! This was standard for me for a very long time until I heard the excellent recording by Krystian Zimerman! Only Zimerman made me understand the very last Impromptu D.935 Op. 142/4! Zimerman understands those Impromtus as rich as Schubert's symphonies. That's what I admire most at Zimerman's recording! Radu Lupu is very far from this and plays it in a very strange way, IMHO.
