Props to Jake for rolling and not giving a crap that he is being filmed with Mendes, even though it's a tough roll for him. You can tell, his goal is to improve and he doesn't give a rats ass what ya all think. That's Jiu Jitsu!

jake just said in his latest instagram post (one with gordon ryan) in the comments that rafa had him roll with all the students here first so he was exhausted. then made him roll with him and secretly filmed it without him knowing. dick move imo, jake called it the lamest thing hed seen in his 20+ years of bjj training.

@@hw982 I doubt all those purple belts, brown belts even black belts gave Shields a hard time, Jake is just a pvssy for excusing himself for being owned by Mendes, Shields will NEVER be at the same level as Mendes, not in this lifetime, Shields sucks and he should accept . Him and his American jiujitsu 🤣🤣🤣🤣 what a joke

@@hw982 firs of.. why would be Jake bothered with being filmed rolling? He's not the celebrity in this video. Second .. there is no shame getting tapped by Rafael and I'm sure he knows it.

Yeah that's madness. I don't train BJJ so I guess I can't appreciate it 100% (porbably more around 10-15%) but Mendes is insane. It's not a blue belt against him. At 9:20, Shields is breathing hard, he is red and trying to catch his breath while Mendes is just chilling. Mendes is on the bottom against a trained pro athlete probably 30 or 40 pounds heavier. But it's Shileds who is exhausted.

Strictly jits vs MMA jits, shows how good someone can be at one aspect of the sport of MMA. Yet throw in punches & the tables would turn bc certain techniques in strictly grappling aren't effective in in MMA. Shields is a well known grappler, yet his highly successful MMA style of grappling dominance can't be as effective in only grappling. This reminds me of one aspect of striking in boxing vs MMA striking. Cool video!

What's the choke at 9:58? never seen that before
@errcoche10 жыл бұрын
Rafa is on another level but Jake is an MMA fighter with a BJJ specialty not a sport BJJ specialist. He is originally a wrestler and compared to a lot of other wrestlers in MMA has chosen to develop his grappling over his striking. That said, he is solid but unspectacular and very rarely threatens with submissions or stops his opponent with ground and pound and is generally not a very offensive fighter. Rafa just sees possibilities that Shields doesn't conceive until he's tapping.
@therealjohnnyjohnson10 жыл бұрын
Solid comment? Are you nuts? Jake is in mendez school showing respect. You never go to another guys place and disrespect him. Jake got out of several choke attempts and several other sub attempts. They are "rolling" if you know what that is? You don't always roll to win! He may just be learning a few technical positions from mendez. I'm sure they didn't speak before this roll? Doy? Jake just walked in and started rolling! Use your head before you downgrade anyone. Shields would kill this guy! Mendez may be better but until they compete you won't know that answer! Sorry for bursting your bubble juijitsu specialist but I train as well.
