Ishido keeps someone from every noble family hostage, that way he avoids them turning on him and attacking the castle. If they all leave, he is left open to the whims of every respective noble person. His belligerance towards Toranaga is paid for by this insurance. Not even Toranaga would ever have been able to attack the castle - his wife and consort, (and new-born), were still trapped there. They would have been killed as soon as he attacked. For any fans of Kashigi the actor was great in Ichi the Killer. It's violent though, and I mean VIOLENT with a capital V, might be one to watch with the lads, it's a fun watch.

I am conflicted about a season 2. Going beyond the source material after season 1 was the case on "The Man in the High Castle". And it went terribly downwards.
