Ragnagard, known as Shinouken (神凰拳, God Phoenix Fist) in Japan, is a 2D fighting game that was developed by Saurus and System Vision and published by SNK for the Neo Geo. It was first released in arcades on July 26, 1996. The game uses pre-rendered 3d polygons for their backgrounds and characters, creating a crisp and clear visual difference from other 2d fighters of its time. Fighting takes place on the ground and in the air, a unique fighting system that advertised the title as an "aerial battle action game".

What made this hard compared to other fighting games was the CPU blocked everything, all the time. You can't hope to land hits with normals, so the only way to do any damage is with special moves that does chip damage and time out. Not surprising since SNK is infamous for making unfair arcade games to generate more profit for arcade operators, but in a fighting game this is crossing the line a bit too far

Of all the S.N.K. games, I honestly believe that Art Of Fighting's A.I. is the most broken, even at Setting 1 it's unbearable.

No, this was not made by SNK. It was made by Saurus, in fact not all of game made for Neo-Geo were made by SNK, let me give you some example of Neo-Geo games that were not made by SNK: World Heroes - Made by ADK Waku Waku 7 - Made by Hudson

Right, this was co-developed by Saurus and System Vision. What I meant was it doesn't matter who developed it, if they wanted their games to be on the Neo Geo they have to follow SNK's strict guidelines, which was to make their games hard so the average player can't easily win and forced to continue often, bringing profit to the arcade operators

@@pyronfrAs of 2002, Playmore(current SNK) had acquired the rights of Ragnagard. Hence, they were the ones rightfully licensing the modern re-releases of this game -Wii Virtual C. in 2011, via D4 enterprise -ACA Switch and XOne in 2019-2020, Via Hamester Both had SNK Trademarks (which indicates that SNK has the rights of that game)

This game's OST is straight up fire. Literally as soon as the video started and followed up with the first fight, I was already looking for the game's sound track moments later.

The way the characters arrive and the announcer introduces them is cool. At the same time though these fights are like watching some bad cosplayers try to fight each other LOL.

Wow, yeees. I always found their animations so slow and telegraphed that it's like one of those cosplays contests where they have to act for a few minutes 😂

Yeah this game is kinda slow and the game feel is not great 😅 About the graphics. I don't mind them that much. The characters look like toys, it is kinda charming. Remind me of the look in the OG Killer Instint,

Just downloaded this game on my Xbox today. It's actually pretty fun with some fun and interesting characters. My only issue is how annoying the AI is. Most of my victories usually come from Time Overs since the AI is so block-happy in this game. Then again, this IS an arcade fighting game (and an SNK game at that) so it's to be expected considering that games like these were designed to eat your quarters.

3D IS the wave of the future! benten's thicc thighs save lives... then her ultimate ends them! you really prozed yourself with that no-health reversal against gokuu. igret looks pretty broken early game. eelis and lucifer though, talk about a brick wall. at least eelis has some bounce

Graphic wise reminds me of Donkey Kong Country, or superior version of Clay Fighters. This game should have gain more following.

Yes, since 2002! when Playmore purchased SNK. SNKP re-released this game twice 2011- in Wii virtual console via D4 Enterprise 2019-2020- in ACA Xone and NS via Hamster Corporation Both of these modern re-releases were trademarked/copyright reserved to SNK, so yes 100% they own the rights of the game, characters and everything that belongs to the game
